I am thinking I may want to sign up to be a stampin up demo......but I am hesitating because I am kind of shy and I just want to be a hobby demo. I don't want to host parties and make money. I just want to sign up for the discounts. That being said, I really don't have anyone to help me make the quarterly amount. I can spend maybe 200 a quarter........but I need would need to find someone or a couple of people to buy stamps to keep up the minimum. Anyone with any ideas on where to find just a few people?
Thanks
Debbie
I'm exactly like you Debbie and I signed up for exactly the same reason. I actually found that I started spending LESS money on my stamping habit bc I began buying only from myself. Plus, you get the 20% off, so that helps too! I don't have a ton of customers (which doesn't bother me at all bc I am intimidated by large groups!), but I got them by just talking to everyone I knew about stamping. Word of mouth is a great way to spread the word. Have a class, invite a few of your friends and then hopefully they will show their wonderful projects to their family, friends, coworkers, etc. and you will get a few more people interested each time. I only have one class a month at my house and don't do workshops, and I easily make enough to cover my minimums just with that. Good luck and hopefully we will see you on the demo side soon!
There are always places to find customers- I have even talk to a gal in Michaels about Stampin' UP. Many demos sign up to be hobby demos and that is the great thing about SU- you can do it your way. As long as you meet your quarterly mins, it's fine. So if you have any friends that craft or family. Or find one or two customers.
I agree - I find that I spend less with SU. Some people say how does that work. I no longer buy random cardstock that doesn't match anything. I no longer buy ribbon that won't work with any colors I own. Once I bought all the stamp pads colors, I am done with ink pads! Having everything matching helps spend less money....for me!!! But I am an addict on stamps1!! I love stamps!!!!
I just signed up as a demo. I know a lot of my friends and family will not buy stamps, papers...separate items. Maybe I'll host a workshop using one of the card kits...everyone buys a kit and we make the cards together. I can supplement with some of my own stamps. Just one idea I had...
Pam - it sounds like a GREAT idea!!!! The kits have been a huge success at workshop or classes with little or no prep needed.
The banner kit is very cool because crafters can make a banner for anytime of the year! Think kids' birthday party!!!! I always make a banner for my boys parties. Now they look forward to it each year! These will be great! I love the canvass and the templates that come in them are wonderful!!!!
You may be able to do some smalltime advertising at your work, library, kid's school/daycare, etc. or use Facebook advertising to find a few customers online that could do a virtual club or an event every few months. I do not have events yet, but still have a smallish newsletter following that order every now and then, which helps.
Also, with the current $25 promotion, you don't have to meet the minimum in your first quarter, so you have until March 2014 to sell/buy $300, and with 2 months of a free business website and a few months to find customers, it should be really easy to do that during Sale-a-Bration!
Shelley, if you already have a lot of current product, the $25 offer is a good deal. You will get $26.95 of products (your choice!) in your starter kit along with business supplies, and you likely already have enough to hold that first workshop to make a few cards and show off items from your collection.
We shy, not sure if we are hobby or full scale new demos should start a mini support group...maybe we will put our heads together and actually find creative ways to make our minimums. I just joined too and feel the same.

Once you join the SU! demo group here, you will find many people just like you.
It will be good. You will have fun.
Oh yay! I've signed up! Now I just have to wait for my demo id and I'm ready to go! I'm so excited I can't stand myself!! And what's really funny, is now all I want to do is make some cards! LOL

I think that's a great idea, but you could also make your own "kits". Use your own stamps, or get a new set you want, design or case a couple of cards using those stamps, buy the cardstock and other supplies yourself, and charge each person what it costs you to make the kit plus a little extra for your time and expertise.

If you signed up online, you should have your demo id already.
That's the one I ordered and it came about an hour ago!!!!! Love it. Actually love all the punches and coordinating stamp sets. I hate to fussy cut and this makes it a lot easier.
I signed up. Hubby is spreading the word. His cousin never heard of Stampin' up. I'm getting some business cards for him to hand out. Going to attend my first workshop soon. I have med bills piling up, so hoping this will help me. I just want to sell enough to make minimums and treat myself. I still have my 1rst SU stamp I bought in 2000.
Pam, click on your name at the top of the screen, were it says, "welcome, pal-ny. Then it will bring up another screen, on the left hand side look for group members, click on that and you'll see where to ask to join the SU side.
