Has anybody else noticed that the year the stamp design came out is no longer on the stamp labels with Stampin' Up? Does anybody miss this? I know I do! I wonder why they decided to take the year off, anybody know?
I noticed it too. I was wondering why they did that because I really liked it. Oh well, I guess they have their reasons. I wish they would share those reasons though.
It seems like I heard that they did this because they sell stuff in some countries longer than they do elsewhere, or that they used to sell elsewhere. For example, I think Australia's catalog has stuff in it that's retired in the US. That way they don't have to make new labels just to change the year if they decide to sell something in another country that they discontinued here. I could be making this up, though.
I heard that too! So, if it was new here in "08, but not new in Australia til "09, they would have to change labels and watch out for that! But, i do miss it!
I could see making a new form for the stamps as being difficult, but I would think this is just a simple word processing change and print thing. Maybe it became a configuration nightmare?
Now, if they would just get rid of that stupid bar code. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I hate trying to get that off so I can put my label on the end.
Does this bother anyone else?
I was wondering why they took that year off too. My guess (and this is a TOTAL guess) is that they don't want people to resell their stamps on ebay! I have found that this is sometimes the only way that you can tell someone the year of a stamp, because you can't find it in an old catalog or something.

I wish they would continue putting the year on the stampset. I like being able to look at a glance and see what year the set came out. I am not really happy with the bar code and how hard it is to get that label off. I have ripped several of mine trying to get them off to stick on my box.
I've only purchased a couple of sets out of the current catalog, but I never even noticed the lack of the year on the stamps! This is going to make it hard to locate sets as they get older in catalogs (especially two a year!).
There is not a year to be found anywhere. I dislike the barcode thing very much too. I have ripped several title labels getting that darn thing off too. I thought maybe they were only doing that for the newer sets in the catalogs, but nope even the older sets that could have been purchased out of older catalogs do not have dates on them and that horrible barcode is attatched. I think I will let Stampin Up know and give them the link to this thread that voices the frustrations.
I cut off the year and the copy right and put it on the sides of my stamps. I like to check back and see the dates, but I don't think I'll miss it that much
This is what I am sending as soon as I can figure out why my email is failing to send out.
To Whom It May Concern,
I have noticed that the year is no longer on the stamp labels. Many loyal stampers and myself would like the years to return and the bar code to go away. The removing of the bar code to get to the label has caused many labels to be torn. If you would like to research the voices of your customers, myself included please take a moment to read the following thread from Splitcoast Stampers Forums at Splitcoaststampers
Could you please tell me the reasoning behind removing the year and adding the bar code?
I suspect now that SU is international they are filing for copyright protection in different countries at different times, so the years would no longer be accurate. I doubt they took it off just to frustrate people -- more likely they took it off so that they are not misleading someone in the UK about the date of the start of copyright protection.
As for the barcode, again, I'm sure they didn't add it to the label to frustrate stampers, but to improve picking and shipping. So unless we all agree that slower shipping is a-OK with us, the bar codes are probably here to stay until technology changes and a better tracking system can be put in place.
the ones I got with a bar code, the bar code part was actually perforated between it and the label.....I folded it back and forth a few times, then tore off the bar code part (came off cleanly) then I removed the clam shell label in one piece
I tried the back and forth thing on the perforations too and I know I have had at least two labels still rip:( . I know SU isn't doing these things to frustrate its customers. I do understand the need for the barcode it probably helps in quicker shipping and inventory. Maybe once they figure out the international or copyright thing then they will bring the years back and maybe label it for example "2008 USA"
