My demo mentioned today that SU customers will be able to order online in the future. Does anyone know the time frame? Will it start with the new catty?
I have been out of the loop for a long time, but I couldn't find another thread on this topic.
She claimed that we will be able to order on the main site in the future. Prices will be higher and you won't be able to receive hostess benefits if you don't have a demo to "credit".
She said that when you order online, you will be able to give your demo credit for the sale. If you don't enter your demo's name (or whatever identifier they'll need), then you'll be "penalized" with higher prices.
I didn't hear that we could order online. My demo told me that SU! was now going to take the credit cards directly so that she did not have to worry about the credit card fees. She was running a pre-retirement special and I did a book party so I didn't pay by credit card because the discount she was offering couldn't be taken off. Fortunately, she has been my demo for a number of years and I could just mail her a check for the party and I collected the money from the others in our group.
It's not quite what you asked, but maybe the first step to direct ordering is SU! processing the credit card payments. I know that I can order directly through Avon, give my Avon rep credit and have my order shipped directly to my house. Maybe SU! is moving in that direction.
If this is going to happen, I would think that SU! would announce it at convention and we'll (all of us non-SU demos) will hear about it then.

It is true about the higher pricing if you do not tie your order to a demo. You can choose a demo from the site if you do not have one in order to get a the lower pricing and benefits from what I understand. Also the shipping will be higher if you do not tie your order to a demo. It is going to be awesome!
Blessings.
I just read about this on another bulletin board. I also read that, in addition to 10% higher costs, the shipping would be higher. But other details were pretty sketchy with more information coming Wednesday. So, stay tuned :>)
Yes, SU just announced that we will have online ordering. If you order thru your demo, the benefits (catalog pricing and hostess benefits) will remain the same. If you choose to order without a demo thru the main SU website, the prices will be 10% higher.
Online ordering is projected to be available this fall. Maybe we'll get more info at Convention.

That seems kind of weird - does anyone know the thinking behind that? Don't get me wrong, it's great for the demos but I'm wondering.....
they want to encourage people to continue to order through the demos. So if you order through your demo's website, nothing will change for you.
That makes total sense. I wasn't thinking it all the way through (or not reading the thread properly), not realizing this was on the main website as opposed to individual demo sites. I'm cursed with an enquiring mind and this wasn't making sense to me - thanks for clearing it up.

It's not weird if you really think about it. The reason they are doing it this way is so that demos don't lose business. Think about it - why have demos if everyone could just skip the demo and order online? SU is trying to support their demos while offering a service that benefits everyone. It's pretty easy to avoid the higher prices - just order through a demo's personal website, or select a local demo's name when ordering via the SU website.
Honestly, (steping into armor suit for protection against flaming that may ensue), I don't get it. My demo told me about this today. From her understanding, we can go directly to the SU site and order. We can either order without a demo and pay higher prices and higher shipping or we can order and give the sales credit to a demo and pay regular prices and regular shipping. HOWEVER, you (SU demo) have to pay SU $13 or so dollars per month to have the special web site exposure / access / ability - whatever you want to call it - to be an eligible demo to do this. That is about $150 a year you have to pay SU for your customers to order from the SU site themselves and possibly being picked by the random customer to order "through" you. From her understanding, the overage that customers are paying without a demo to credit for the sales will be pooled and divided among the demos that do pay for the web fees. No idea how much that will be.
What is especially interesting is how SU will deal with working with customers directly on quality issues. My reinker leaked, the stamp set is damaged, when will my backorder ship, etc. I personally think this devalues the demonstrators positioning and dilutes resources available to the demos that represent the company.

actually this isn't accurate. She can adjust the amount charged to individual credit cards to offer her own specials, she'll just have to make up the difference when placing the finalized order to reflect the discount. She must not be aware of this...
Is she a member here? If so, have her pm me and I'll be happy to walk her through it...

If the demo doesn't have an SU site, can a customer still order through the main website and apply it to their demo (who doesn't have an su site) or is it just work with demos who have a site?

Your SU demo sure covered all the bases with you! And they are all correct. As for quality issues, I'm sure SU will handle them the same way they handle it with the demos. SU has always had great customer service, and I don't think that will change if customers have to contact SU directly.
I don't think this devalues demos at all - just the opposite. They are providing customers with incentives for ordering through a demo. It is true that we have to pay for our websites - we have for a while now. It's also true that demos have to have a website to be shown on the demo locator (which I'm not sure I agree with, but that's a separate issue). However, a demo does NOT need a website for customers to order through her online. They can go to SU's website and enter the demos name so that she gets credit.
I'm sure there will be changes/tweaks made in the future as SU realize what does/doesn't work. Overall, this is a great step in the right direction, and benefits customers and demos.

Well, you can still place an order the old fashioned way. :-) And I may be remembering the details incorrectly, but I think if you order from a demo that does not have a website for ordering, she will make a much smaller percentage (10%, rather than 20%) on your order. Can another demo confirm that? or was I just imagining? :-)

I should be able to delete this because what I wrote just made no sense at all. Is it within "protocol" for demos to talk about stuff like this here?? I don't want to get yelled at tonight ;)

There isn't more "buzz" on the general side yet because demos are just learning about the details. There is a lot of very active buzz on the demo side of SCS! We should know more about the details in the coming days.......

Your'e correct. The website is just the regular demo site that a lot of demos have already, so they don't need to pay for another site on top of that.
I found the quote (just for the sake of accuracy):
Quote:
If you don't have a DBWS, and a customer selects you as their demonstrator, you are only eligible to receive 10 percent deferred income from her online orders, and she will pay a higher minimum shipping price for her online order.
A demo has to have a DBWS (demo business web site) through SU to be involved in the plans for online ordering.
Not true. Customers will be able to order through SU's website and give their demo credit. The demo will receive only half of her commission if customers order this way. Having a DBWS will enable a demo to show up on the demo locator, and customers will be able to order directly through her site, and she will receive her full commission.

Yep! I stand corrected... and actually self-corrected because I deleted what I wrote because I was dead wrong LOL!!
It's sort of a tiered thing. The pricing, shipping, percentage to demo, and chance of benefits change depending on the method of online ordering: 1) Order from the SU site and not name a demo 2) Order from the SU site and name a demo 3) Order from a demo's DBWS.
Hmmm, I wonder why the prices would be higher. Are you saying that the prices would be higher ordering online vs through a demo?
Tupperware did this (I don't know if they still do) when they started online ordering. It encourages customers to order from their rep, but provides that added convenience (which at times we are all willing to pay for) of ordering at 2AM in your jammies.... LOL!
Don't know. Seems like there would be more buzz about this on SCS.
There is more info coming. They just rolled out the concept of it today. They promised more details to come tomorrow and I bet more will follow at Convention next week.
Stampin' Up! has announced that the online ordering will be available sometime in the fall. This will make it so much easier as our customers will be able to order 24/7. So, if they are looking through the catalog late at night, they don't have to wait until the next day to call their demo but can go to their demonstrator's website and place an order anytime day or night (I do my best shopping when I can't sleep at night, lol).
Convention is next week so I'm sure we'll get more information about the online ordering then. I'm excited because it's a win/win for both my customers and myself. Now all I have to do is make sure I get the new Fall Winter Idea Book & Catalog into my customers' hands!
I'm not a demo, but as a customer I think this will be a great thing because I've seen posts where someone's demo has been on vacation during a sale or promo or product retirement and this will enable them to order whether the demo is available or not.

I'm facing that right now... I leave for convention on Sunday, then when I get back NEXT Sunday, I won't even be going home. I'm picking up my car and heading to Kingdom Bound with my kids and the youth group. So I'll be gone for two full weeks right at the end of a catalog period with retiring accessories and stamp sets.
I really wish online ordering were available now instead of scrambling to get all orders in before I leave!
