Default Stamping on wood

Can I stamp on stained wood with classic ink and then seal it with tung oil? Has anyone tried this? My husband refinished a knife holder and I want to decorate it with pinecones. Thanks.

Is the stain oil-based or water-based? My thought is that an oil base would cause the dye ink (which is water based) to bead up. I've successfully stamped on wood that had been stained with a water-based stain, using classic ink. I didn't seal it, though, so I can't speak to what would happen with the tung oil. Do you have a chunk of wood somewhere that you could do a test run on? That would be my suggestion...
