Default Stampin Spots

I thought I had seen some talk on here about Stampin Spots - small 1" squares of basic ink colors. I don't see them online in the catalog. Did I imagine this or have they been discontinued?

SU! No longer sells them.
However, they still exist. One or two are in every Paper Pumpkin kit, including some of the new In Colors. My spot collection is growing by leaps and bounds. Or one or two at a time.

It is pretty simple to DIY for these. Here is a thread with several suppliers for the uninked cubes!

I travel back and forth to FL every year and carrying the full size pads is not a great use of the limited car space. So I carry reinkers!

I am loving that with the MPP kit each month we are getting stampin' spots. I hate that they are no longer carrying them. I have a full set of inks so I am collecting them for my neice for Christmas!! She will LOVE it!!!

I was pretty upset to learn of this! I don't have much space anymore and am trying hard to keep things consolidated. As much as I love the full sized pads, I truly don't have room for them anymore. I want spots in all of the new colors, and it was so much easier to just buy the set from SU than to buy and store all of the bottles of ink and buy some tiny pads elsewhere. :(

SU! doesn't get rid of products unless it doesn't sell well. Especially with a catalog based company with limited space on the shelves in the warehouse, getting rid of items that aren't selling well allows them to bring us more new items. Just a positive to throw in there, although I too loved the spots. I definitely enjoy this about the My Paper Pumpkin kits for sure!!! I thought I hit the jackpot when we got that one with two spots! I threw the Basic Gray one in my Zipper Pouch that I keep all of my This & That goodies in to scrap on the go.

Erin - I have a rack my hubby built hanging on my wall so they don't take up any precious counter space. The ink refills store in the top of it so they aren't taking up counter space either. As sad as I was to see the spots go, I could not survive without my Full Sized ink pads! I sold my old sets because they didn't have all of the current colors.

Too bad they aren't carrying them any more! I can't imagine that they didn't sell well as it's a great way to test-drive the colors and see what you do/don't use; I'm sure they have their reasons with regard to marketing and such. It is, after all, about making $$.

When I started my stamping hobby back in 2003, I purchased only a few full-sized pads in colors like brown, black, & grey. I then purchased all the spots, which I still use to this day! I find them to be more manageable than the full-sized pads, but that's just me. They may become tedious if you did a lot of stamping with large background images and such, but I've had no problems in that regard. I'm pretty sure you'd need full-sized pads for doing brayer art too. But for my purposes, I love 'em!

Quite honestly, I just don't use all the colors enough to warrant spending that much money on all the full-sized pads. When they started switching up the color families and coming out with the new "In Colors", I too went in search of un-inked pads and found them (as has already been said) here: Ink Dye Applicator Cube.

Deb - I don't know what the deal is. I just know that's typically why they phase out products. Sometimes it is supplier issues or whatnot too. Personally, I've been a demo for 5 years and while I saw them as a great value, I sold VERY few of these sets because they were a higher priced item. More of my stampers would buy 1 or 2 pads in colors they knew they would use. Anyway, I'm not sure, just thought I would mention that.

This makes good sense, too! When I got into it, I had absolutely no clue what I might use or what made the most sense to buy. In typical obsessive fashion, I thought I had to have every stamp pad (hence the reason I bought the spots), every re-inker, ever marker, every color of cardstock. Just about the time I managed to collect them all, SU! retired some colors and introduced others. lol I also have more than a few stamp sets that I now look at and say, "What the heck was I thinking when I bought this?!" Ah well ... live and learn, I guess.
