If I can find some money laying around, I plan to go. Heck, who needs money? I'll just go and look! Yeah, right, like that's going to happen! NOT!
I've never made the StampFest in Tampa, but have gone to the one in Orlando (last year I think). I don't think I'm going (to Tampa) this year either. I'd love to hear about it however!
I can't wait, but I also don't know what to expect. Can anyone tell me what its like?
Nadine, if it's anything like the one in Orlando last year, there will be lots of vendors, lots of make and takes, lots of demos of new stuff, lots of new stuff to buy and hoards of ladies around each demo. They have classes you have to sign up for and pay for in advance on Friday, 2/17. Take cash money, but have a budget of what you'll spend, because of lot of the vendors take credit cards. Check this out for all the info you'll need: http://www.stampfest.com/Shows/
Last bit of advice, get there early! Even before it opens! HTH
Oh, I'm bummed. I didn't know stampfest was coming to clearwater. I have to go to Clearwater this weekend, not during stampfest! I was just planning on finding some stamp stores to visit while I'm there. But stampfest would have been much better. So not to get off the topic, but do any of you who live in that area know of any stores I should visit. Please let me know. Thanks.
Dina, there's a handy little newsletter available at non-chain craft stores, quilt shops, stamp shops, etc., all over Florida. I get mine at Griffins in Ocala, but they're everywhere. Go to the following link: http://www.countryregister.com/ and click on advertisers for Florida and you'll see all the shops that have the Country Register. It comes out every two months and is chock full of stuff, including coupons, divided up by city or area. HTH

Kathy, thank you for your advice!!! I can't wait to go. Luckily, I'll have just gotten paid....hahahaha...I guess that could be a not-so-good thing too. hee hee..
Wilde-Ideas stamp store is in Clearwater. It's downtown about a mile away from the convention. Nice people there.
Roubin Rouge is in Palm Harbor. Awesome scrap booking store.
Bring your digital camera to the convention. Read the other thread about conventions. We arrive about 11. There's usually an hour wait to get in when it opens. We avoid the line by going at 11.
Look at everything before buying unless they don't have many of the item. Sometimes someone will have the same item cheaper at another booth.
It it's expensive or you want to buy a lot of their stamps, see if they sell online (or if they run out of the item). Sometimes they will give you free shipping. That way you have more $$ to spend that day and can get that stuff at another date.
If you like unmounted, it's usually a lot cheaper than mounted and won't weigh you down. Again, more $ to spend there. Some people only sell UM.
Around 2, things quiet down. It will be easier to see the booths and the demos.
What else???

Thanks for reminding me Nancy! I had forgotten that Wilde Ideas is in Clearwater. I've bought from them online, but always said I'd make it to their store sometime.
It was great! Spent more than I budgeted, but not by much. Marco's Papers had some great buys and I saw a couple of techniques I have to try. Anybody who can go to one of these oughta go if at all possible.
I had a blast!!! When I first got there, I thought "too bad there's only 23 vendors. That's not very many..." Boy was I wrong!!!! I think if there had been more, I would have zero of my tax return $ left!!
I would highly recommend going. I spent a small fortune at Inky Antics, Marcos Paper and KT Designs. I can't wait to do it again!!!
I talked to Navywyf on the phone while she was there!!! Does that count as being therer??? Cause I had fun hearing all about it from her!!
Sure! It was funny, cause I'm walking around the place looking at people and thinking, "hmm...I wonder if they're on SCS..." Didn't recognize anyone though...
I got to meet Navywyf! Nadine, I was looking for you.
I was a little disappointed. It's the same vendors that are there every year and most of them go to Orlando also. I only bought 2 stamps. At least I have more money for Sellabration!
I did get a lot of inspiration and took some pics to give me ideas.
I heard most of the vendors went to the convention in GA.
For anyone going to Orlando, we'll have to create a meeting time so we can meet each other!

You are right that it was smaller than the Orlando version that is held in June, but I think there was another show in St Mary's Georgia today, and some of the vendors had to choose one show or the other.
I walked right in at 9:00 and DH (very DH!) carried two loads out to the car. I bought a TON of stamps. (Of course I got my Spring catalog from SU! this week... ...such timing.) I loved the foils, and the embossing powders, and the demos were great. Lots of new little punches and stamps for small envelopes, two paper booths, and Cheryl Darrow was signing her new book "Metal Effects". Lots of demos of making special paper effects using paints, sprays or powders with mica. Lots of squirting and spraying with all sorts of stuff (one lady had a large bottle of gin, a bottle of alcohol and a bottle of oil). Some sealed the paper first, before adding color. Others rubbed on gold twinkling H2O's over the top.
I've spent today sorting through all my loot like a kid the day after Christmas.
I'm glad I got there early, because the parking lot filled up.
One lady was transported to in by ambulance!!! She must have really wanted to be there.
Yay! I got all of my work done last night and finally have time to stamp. I bought so many stamps, they will have to meet ink soon!!! When is the Orlando convention?
Stampfest Orlando starts (classes) June 23-24 and the convention is June 24-25. At the Sheraton World Resort.
Nadine, you are sooo lucky to be down in an area with a bunch of really great stamp stores. The Owl and the Pussycat seems to have all the latest trends.
Is Oblique still in Bonita Springs?
The lady in Oblique mentioned that she prefers "The Artful Journey" convention in Jacksonville, which is about the same time as Stampfest Orlando.
I am having a hard time making up my mind as to which one to pick.
Oh what fun! My sister-in-law and I went to Stampfest. I live in Fort Myers Beach and she lives in Bradenton. We went to my brother's and spent the night and then she and I went to Clearwater Saturday morning. For me, it was just the right size. Not too much to look at to become overwhelming. I love Inky Antics so we bought quite a bit of stuff there and also Sarasota Stamps. I loved seeing the demonstrations and learning how to use some of the new stuff. I just got the Prismacolors and needed the rest of the stuff to go with them, so I was able to get it at Inky Antics. Can't wait until next year! We are "snowbirds" so we won't be here for the one in Orlando but maybe there will be some in Indiana this summer or fall. We are definately hooked now.
Maybe next time we will have to wear name tags that says we belong to SCS so we can recognize other members.
Nadine.....can you direct me to some great stamping or scrapbooking stores in the Naples or Bonita area? Do you go to any camps in this area? I am going to Tricia's at Estero. She is really nice and has a nice camp and great ideas.

Sure, Nina mentioned some above. They are:
Oblique - on Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs - (Betsy is the owner) She has the biggest variety of stamps and the largest store of the 3 stores I know, but a lot of her stamps are older and cutesy. Big selection of accessories, inks etc.
The Owl & the Pussycat - on US 41 in Fort Myers - (Regina is the owner) She keeps up with the latest trend and is very artsy. Not nearly as big a selection of stamps, but I tend to like the styles she chooses to carry more than Oblique.
There's also Betty's Stamp Pad in Cape Coral, (Betty is the owner) but I don't remember the address. I've only been there once, but had a field day in her store.
All three stores are very different from eachother and all are worth visiting. Matter of fact, I may have to make tomorrow a shopping day...
And I'll be darned if I can find a single stamp store in Naples. Can you believe it???

Judy has a good idea! Shame it's too late for last weekend, but maybe for StampFest Orlando we can arrange a place and time to meet. Wouldn't it be cool if we all had on an SCS T-Shirts? Of course, I'd have to buy one first, but that seems like a good idea. I ran into 3 friends from my stamp club in Ocala, but reading the posts here, there were quite a few SCS'rs there and we didn't even know it.

Darn...I will be back up north when Stampfest Orlando is there but maybe next year we can meet up. That would be fun!
Oblique - on Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs

Where on Bonita Beach Road. I go on Bonita Beach Road all of the time and I have never seen it. I did find a Scrapbooking Shop on Bonita Beach Road close to the shopping center that Publix is in. Can't believe there is none in Naples!

Oblique is hard to see because its squeezed into a corner of a strip mall, but its very close to Scrapbooks Etc., the store you mentioned.
If you take Bonita Beach Road going towards Ft. Myers, Oblique is on the right in a shopping center that is right next to The Toucan Grill. The awnings of the buildings are a purple color. You really have to look for it and the sign in front of the shopping center is sort of small. Call first for her hours, I know she's closed on Sun and Mon and usually closes for the month of August.
I would love to meet up with you gals in Orlando if you can make it! I think I'll have to buy a SCS shirt to wear there.

Oh Wow...I feel like I hit pay dirt! I found Oblique this morning! She had some of the Hero Arts stamps I was looking for. Thanks so much Nadine for the directions. She sure has a lot of stamps. I will have to go back when I have more time to look. I am also going to look for the Owl and the ***** Cat when I am in Fort Myers. I think I will go to Oblique for some of the classes she is offering.

Yay! I'm glad you found it. Isn't she the nicest lady? I've been meaning to sign up for some classes too, but I just never get around to it. Maybe we'll meet up sometime!

She was very nice. Hope we do get to meet up sometime.
Hi, I've just found this thread and am very excited to hear about all these stamp fests. I'll definitely look into the one in Orlando this June. I live in Tampa. Do any of you know of any stamping stores here? I can only find scrapping stores and they don't carry stamps at all.
I've never been to a demo, a party, or anything. I've asked my demo and she's only interested in doing this as a hobby. She hasn't learned many techniques. I think she would be interested if I line something up though.
Nadine, I also have a place on Palm Island (a small barrier island two miles south of Boca Grande). About 20 minutes away from Pt. Charlotte. Do you know of any stores in that area?

Well, I'm fairly new to FL. We just moved down in July 2004, so I'm not really familiar with places too far from me, but I just googled and came up with these links:
I would call first before going to any to make sure they still exist, (I know that one of them on there (Planet Rubber in Clearwater) is no longer in business.
Can you tell me what area or landmarks the Owl and the Pussycat is close to?? I am going to Fort Myers Friday and think I will check it out.
Yep, its right next to the Jaguar dealer and a big building that says FIREWORKS on it. Its on the north bound side of 41. I *think*, but can't swear to it, that its before Daniels Parkway, if you're heading north. You may want to give her a call though. She's also tucked in a strip mall with a small sign.
