I hope this is okay to post a general thread...I was just curious to see how many of you do spring cleaning? Meaning, a more thorough "top to bottom" clean than usual. I grew up in the South and never really got the concept, but living in Ohio now I found myself naturally doing more cleaning lately with the warmer weather and longer hours. Stuff like windows, that you really can't clean in the winter.
I have a friend that just washed all her baseboards and doors and cabinets...ugh. I really don't want to do all that! I do them here and there, when they need it, but not with a good scrub all at once. Then I have friends who say their house is dirty and it sure looks cleaner than mine LOL!
Am I alone in this? I am no slob, mind you (I have seen a few of those houses, too) but I am also not OCD about the house being clean. DH thinks it should always be clean enough to have company come over without any warning...YEAH RIGHT. Of course, his idea of cleaning is stuffing everything in drawers and closets (where they don't belong), just to make it LOOK clean.

I've been really slack about cleaning lately. No kids at home, so I've just been piling things up. Plus keeping doors closed helps! My oldest daughter came home to visit over Memorial Day weekend, and saw the state of things. (It really isn't that bad, just cluttered) She has this routine down about cleaning her house, which she keeps on her computer, so this day she does this, on this day she does that etc. I guess I am going through a rebellious stage right now. She called me when she got home and said she was going to bring some friends to visit so they could go to the beach and she said, "Will you clean off the kitchen table?" Of course I will have the house totally cleaned by the time she gets here, plus my son is coming home the following weekend from his deployment at sea. I have just felt like being lazy!
I grew up in a extremely clean house, but my Mom never worked. We always did the spring cleaning growing up. I work a full time job and pick up some hours at an Urgent Care on weekends, and when I get home from work some days I am pooped!
Does anyone else feel like I do?

When I lived in Ohio I did spring cleaning. Now that we're in the south I really haven't done it. I guess because it's nicer most of the time and I feel like those chores I reserved to spring ih Ohio can be done pretty much all year round here in SC.

I try to Flylady.com all year long so clutter is at bay and there's no need for spring cleaning. Sometime I get behind and have to do an extra "27 fling boogie". My only room that absolutely fails is my scrapbook room, of course. LOL
I am thinking of trying Flylady too- I've started my Spring cleaning but haven't gotten very far. Today's cleaning will be the downstairs bath- Thank God it's a small room as I am so NOT in the mood for it- I was going to do the front entryway closet and figured that was a cop out. Although I am sitting here in front of this computer and not cleaning aren't I???
There's just something about getting on my hands and knees and cleaning baseboards that doesn't thrill me either............. and with a bad back it's almost unbearable! Maybe I could hire someone

Ugh. ITA. But, I gotta do it; house guests coming for my DDs graduation.
I also hate cathedral ceilings, and decorative ledges; the cobwebs give me the willies, especially when I have to climb that darn ladder--I've never been diagnosed, but, I think I suffer from vertigo!

So, in the poll you'd be a number 1 (clean all the time)? I looked at flylady and was completely overwhelmed. I know that's not the idea, but following her schedule was actually MORE work to me...I don't wash down the kitchen cabinet doors every month, for example. I did get some ideas, though, and the main idea to not try and do it all at once. Although, for me, it is more motivating to do it all and get it over with, IF it would stay that way (as when I was single). Now I feel like my house is never completely clean because it is done piecemeal--by the time I vacuum the floor needs mopped again. KWIM?
Sorry I posted this "survey" twice but it's working out with the responses : ) TFS everyone!

This morning I threw a bedsheet over the kitchen table and cleaned the ceiling fan. It gets so dusty over the winter but I never think of it until it's time to use it. The table is full of clutter (mail, etc) so I covered it all so it wouldn't get dusty. Then I got really inspired and washed the floor. I noticed that the baseboards are dusty, but until the floor is dry, I have to stay in this room with my computer and SCS. Funny how the floor will probably take at least an hour to dry! LOL
As far as spring cleaning - I can't say that I do it. The closest I come is switching the clothes in the closets.
