I like sketches, it helps me organize my creative thoughts , now the size will vary, depending on the stamp I want to use, I usually do an A2 but lately I am loving doing 6x6, or 6x5

I guess I'm too undisciplined to use card sketches. I've tried and just don't enjoy making my card when I try to use one.
I don't much like formal lessons or classes either, so it's probably all a part of the same mindset.
I really enjoy looking at the gallery and follow quite a few blogs, but rarely CASE anything exactly. I just let everything I've looked at "percolate" in my head and then do my own thing.
I've turned into a freethinking, opinionated old granny who doesn't want anyone telling her how to do something, I guess.

I LOVE sketches!!! When Roxie does the sketch challenge (Wednesday's), in her sample she always provides the sizes she uses. Not everyone does though. For me it depends on the image and how the main image is being displayed (ie, I usually cut out with my Nestabilites) and go from there!
I used to really struggle with following sketches because it's just not how I create a card. But for me, I think it's good to push your boundaries and stretch yourself, and I certainly find them much easier to follow now than I did a year ago. But apart from a challenge, it's rarely where I start.
As for sizes of pieces, I just eyeball it. When Roxie posts her card for the Wednesday sketch challenge here on SCS, she always gives the dimensions for people who like them, and I think some people will print the file and use that as a guideline. Again, just not the way I work.
Most of my cards are A2, but if the sketch looks square I try to stay square, and occasionally an image that I want to use needs something bigger than A2, so I just scale up.
I don't play sketch challenges all that often but when I do, I basically take the sketch as a starting point rather than a blueprint. So the sketch might be based on an A2 sized card but I don't let that stop me making a square card if that's what I feel like doing that day. If the sketch is portrait orientation and I want to make a landscape card, I just rotate the sketch 90 degrees. As long as the sketch is still recognisable in the finished product, that's cool and as for sizes of panels, I just stick with making them the same kind of proportions as the sketch rather than trying to figure out exact measurements, IYSWIM.

Please tell me where I would go to find Roxie's sketch challenges. What link would I use? Thank you!
If you just want to find the daily challenges when you don't have a link though, just go to the forum home page and scroll down a little until you see the "Challenges" heading. Then there's the whole selection of daily challenges - today does happen to be sketch challenge day though!
I LOVE sketches! I think they're a great jumping-off point. Sometimes my card turns out to look nothing like the sketch. Other times, it looks identical. They help get you thinking about placement of elements, get you out of your comfort zone, etc. The sizes of the layers is really up to you and how you see it fitting on your card/project. That's the beauty of the sketch.
I too am a sketch lover and take it as a guide and not a blueprint...so if my main image is larger or smaller, I go with the general idea of the sketch and change it up to suit MY card...
I really enjoy viewing the sketch challenge galleries and seeing all the different directions everyone has taken, even though they all started with the same sketch. There's so much creativity in this community.
I think I've gotten addicted to sketches! I keep them in my google notebook so I just scroll through to find one that catches my eye or may work with the image I'm using. The finished card may look wildly different from where I started, but at least the cards give me a good starting point.
Oooh! I like the idea of keeping them in a notebook. I have a tendency to do similar things over and over. The sketches can get my creative ideas flowing. My hubby likes to get on the computer when I'm stamping, so we will be in the same room together. Many times, he'll be on the computer and I will realize that I wish I had looked up the current sketch. The notebook would be a good resource at that time. Thanks for the idea.

Reason: What I said didn't make sense.

I'm glad I gave you a good idea, but just to clarify my original post, I use the online Google Notebook. Once you install it, you can just right-click on a picture (or highlight text) and select "save to notebook."
Also, did you know that you can right-click a picture, select copy image, then paste it into a word document? (I always thought you had to save the picture to your computer first, but I just learned this trick yesterday) That way if you do a lot of different sketch challenges, you could put them all on the same page, then print them out at once to save paper.
Also there are master lists of SCS sketches that you can print from here.
Another advantage of saving photos this way is that you can make notes, such as where the images came from.

I love the sketch challenges here on SCS (I don't have the time to search/do sketches on the thousands of blogs or vendor sites available). I don't do the sketch challenge every week, but the old sketches can help me design a card when I don't have any bright ideas in my own head. LOL! For example, last night I finished coloring a pear that was leftover from a class I taught last month. I didn't know what I was going to do with that pear, so I found a Splitcoast sketch that included a similar size piece in it, and then was able to complete my card easily.
Total sketch lover here! I think it takes all the hard work out of it for me and makes it more fun! I do scrapbooking and card making and I use sketches when I want to crank things out and have a fun old time without worrying so much about how it will turn out. Sometimes my mind goes blank with the layout part of the design process. I like making my own sketches too though.
