I got mine on ebay for ~130.00 it makes weird noises when it cuts but it cuts quickly and I have never had a ripped image like I have with the cricut. it is great for fonts
It cuts sharper/cleaner/more accurately than any other personal digital die cutter out there, as I understand it. I want one. When I have a place to put it/keep it out so I'll use it all the time.
Limitations:
8.5" max width on the feed (Cricut and others can do 12")
And, I don't think it can anything thicker than heavy weight card stock at this point
If they came out with a 12" wide model today, I'd be all over it like white on rice. ;)

Just my thoughts (because I have an older CraftRobo and love it), if you don't really need it to be portable and only plan on using it at home, then I would look into getting one without the SD card feature. It would be the exact same machine functionally, and wouldn't cost you as much. I personally would never take my cutter to a crop or lend it out. If someone broke it, its not likely they'd replace it for you or pay to have it fixed.

LOL, white on rice!! excellent!
I just bought one, well, the UK version called Craft Robo - i heard graphtec (makers of Craft robo) make the Silhouettes, though that could just be rumour...lol
yep it only cuts 8.5" wide but apparently you can cut over 30 inches length, still haven't managed to get it out of the box, but I was hugely influenced by the comparison KWerner did on her blog.
Like Julie, i was going to wait but was overcome by a fit of birthday money spenditis, and gave in. Just need to clear a space for it now!! lol,
good luck with whatever you choose, it's a tricky one!!
my problem with my machine is that it will not cut SU cardstock effectively and thats the only cardstock I use. I use the thickest settings and the red blade and it still does not cut through. Any suggestions?

You probably will need to take at least two passes with the cutting blade. Copy and paste the drawing on top of itself and then try cutting.
I have one of the original Silhouettes and have never had a problem cutting SU cs. Like the other poster, that is all I use and it has always cut great. I don't use it every day but it is sure nice to have when I need it.
I have one plus several other die cutting machines. I do love the Silhouette. I use it for Print & Cut. Nothing beats that laser registration for accurate print cutting. It's a great machine but does have limitations.
Silhouette is not listed on there but CraftRobo is. CraftRobo, Wishblade & Silhouette are all the same machines made by Graphtec.
My computer aided cutters are the BossKut Gazelle, Silhouette and Cricut. Silhouette and Gazelle have the best mathematical formulations for accurate cutting.
