In case you haven't gotten the email yet, next Tues. May 15th is National Gas Out Day. Send a protest to oil companies by refraining from buying gas on that day. After all, the less we spend on gas, the more we have to spend on stamps & stuff!
Art is intended to provoke an emotion from a total stranger. If youve succeeded in this, consider yourself an artist. Paper Shanks Blog. Love me or hate me, you are still talking about me
Maybe not, but will it hurt if you don't? I just got gas today, and don't have much driving to do in my Civic, so I think I can swing it. Nothing lost, in my opinion, if you want to do it. Get it the night before or the morning after. I'm game for harmless fun!
Instead of not BUYING gas, to make a difference you have to not USE gas.
Don't drive that day! And don't go about not driving by making sure you have all your errands done the day before (increasing consumption before a boycott does nothing). Walk to the grocery store, bike to the park, take a bus to work. If you would have driven- go a different way. That's the only thing that will make a difference.
Disclosure: Do I do this, no, not really. I couldn't bike to work in a timely matter. But if I ever want to go to HL (1 mile) I bike or walk. And if I want to go to the LSS (2 mi) I bike. (It also helps me save money, I can only buy what I can carry back home!)
There have been multiple articles and news stories on this. It really doesn't make any difference if people 'boycott' gas for one day. You're still buying gas, just a day earlier or day later, because you are using gas.
If you don't drive, then you're not using the gas, and THAT will make a difference.
I would rather everyone boycott one of the more expensive stations, like Shell or BP. But it's awfully difficult to get people to give up on "their" gas station.
I have been getting that same e-mail for 7 years now. I think if we really want to make a difference we need to really think about how we are using our gas. Do I think about it? No, not that much but maybe soon we will have to.
Hee hee, and the banner link right above the quick reply box is "Are you being gouged at the pump?"
I've been walking DS to school instead of driving him now that the weather is nice. I've heard over and over the last few years though, that people won't change their gas-consuming habits until it's over $4 a gallon.
Please don't think that not buying gas one day but doing it the day before or after does anything. Its a joke first of all and it will accomplish aboslutely nothing. The stupid email going around saying gas dropped 30 cents a gallon over night in 1997 was simply wrong, inaccuarte and just a ploy. Sometime the internet can spawn really dumb and rediculous things. If you really want a change then buy Hybrid car or other high MPG car, buy cleaning products that aren't petroleum based, recycle like mad and buy organic when you can. Lastly, change your light bulbs to the energy saving ones. I did and my electricity bill dropped by nearly $30 for two months!

Yeah, that Although I've heard that it's more important to buy local than to buy organic. Another way to wean yourself off petroleum is to bring your own bags when you go shopping. All of those plastic bags come from somewhere, kwim?
I just came back from an 11 day driving trip to see my granddaughters. Yes price is way up and so different is all the spots we stopped. Highest we saw was $3.98. I told DH Im glad the tank still has gas. Did it stop us......nope and we even took the scenic route home. Took us 5 hours longer with the 2 fires and the flipped truck. We just shut off the engine and played cards.
Will it stop us from going again next month....... well kind of........ we decided to fly. Only reason is my daughter works for the airline and we get a big discount. You know..... life goes on....if food got outradigous, would you stop buying food? Houses are the same. We all just need to re-arrange some travels and instead of running to the store everytime you need something......... do without till you can make one big run. So Melissa and some of the others are right....... we must move on and just deal with it. Bread and milk aint a quarter any more either.
