Default sewing on cards HELP!!!

So I've resisted the urge to sew on my cards for ages now. I used to, way back, when sew my own clothes as a teen but its been 10 years (oh rereading this I must add - Its been way MORE than 10 years since I was a teen LOL more like 30 LOL) or so since I've touched my machine. Today I went downstairs to the basement and dragged the machine up to the kitchen table. I can't find the booklet - I've threaded it properly - but when I sew the stitches don't stitch - they don't "catch" if that makes sense. Can someone help me? I'm working on a gift recipe project and I thought sewing transparencies to the page would make a cute pocket for the recipe so both sides of the card could be used. TIA!!

Did you check the needle? Is it in backwards? The grove on the needle (feel it--one side is grooved) holds the thread--so the last threading place should have the groove facing toward the thread so it become one with the needle. Very Zen!

Also, did you thread the bobbin correctly? If I knew the machine I may be able to help more..I taught Home Ec for 30 years and have sewn on almost every machine.

You guys are great - I had to giggle - cuz yeah -the first thing I checked was if I had threaded the needle and had the bobbin thread popping up - both the bobbin thread and the top thread (what do you call that ) pull through as the paper (and I tried with fabric) moves along and it makes holes but no stitches. I'll have to check in the morning if I have the needle in backwards - I don't know as it was still in the machine from the basement (but this was a gift from my parents to my DD ages ago and I don't know if she ever used it so who knows if it was set up right)

I'll find the model number etc tomorrow (I'm finally gonna go to bed at a decent time tonight) but I do know its a brother machine - pretty basic one.

thanks for the prompt responses!! SCS are the best! Andrea

also check the tension, I have to change it every time I switch from sewing on card to sewing on fabric.
