With all this information surfacing about not being able to sell cards with rubber stamp images on them, how does this relate to using die cuts or embossing on cards for sale? I don't sell my cards, but it still makes me wonder if selling cards with die cuts or embossing on them might fall under the copyright laws?
Ok, a circle, or plain geometric shape may not be an issue. Those can certainly be cut freehand, so you couldn't prove someone used a die cut or not. But what about Sizzix and Cuttlebug for example? They have many designs of die cuts and embossing that would be difficult for someone to duplicate on their own. Are these designs copyrighted and therefore not able to be used on cards for sale?
I wonder what the policy is for them or even if there is one? Anyone have any idea?
What potential new law are you referring to? SU's angel policy allows you to sell cards you made with their stamped images with certain restrictions, but many other companies have stricter policies. Is this something new?

Live in the moment and make it so beautiful it's worth remembering.
What? You can ONLY use PC materials if you plan to sell it? That's absurd. And as much as I pay for those cartridges, I should be able to do as I please!

Yea~ Um....what's changed where we can sell things with stamped images???

No that was their 'angel policy' I posted above - if you do plan to sell things. You can do whatever you want for personal use.
I wonder how many people are aware of ProvoCraft's policy and how many who are aware follow it? I know of a few consistent sellers on ebay who use thier cricuts for premade things...not all PC supplies and make a pretty good profit...enough to make it worth it.
HMMM...silly silly policy!
There was another thread within the last 24-36 hours which I can't find at the moment that had a big long story about some potential law in the works that affected artists and copyright laws. I didn't read the whole thing at that moment, but thought I had bookmarked it for later review, which I mistakenly did not. I was under the initial impression upon reading the thread (that I cannot now find) that this was solely regarding artists completed creations, and not the articles or images used to create those projects.
But, now when I read this thread, I thought she was referring back to the thread (that I cannot find).
If the OP was not referring to the thread that surfaced a while ago, then I am sorry for bringing it up and causing more confusion.
Does anyone else remember the artist copyright law thread?

If I donate cards to a non-profit organization, can they sell the cards? Example - a book nook within a public library.
Thanks.
I would say technically no - but I PERSONALLY (sorry for shouting but needed emphasis) that the companies know what their products are legitimately being used for and they are not supplying this information at the point of purchase, so surely the must bare some responsibility in any misunderstanding regarding usage.
On PC's stuff and many other's I think the benefit of having their product out there being used by people and emulated by others far exceeds any harm from selling any creations with their products but again that is my personal opinion.
It makes me understand some of the ETSY listings I have seen which says they will make cards to order.... so in theory the buyer is picking what they want on the card the seller is only adhering it together to order... they are not selling their creations, they are creating what someone else wishes to buy; a subtle however crucial difference.

I emailed provocraft to ask them this question (i.e. cuttlebug mixed with other stamps). This is the response I got yesterday
Yes you can use other items with Provo Craft products for sell, however there are some key points to remember with the Angel Policy. You can not sell any product made using Provo Craft products on the Internet. You can sell items made at local craft fairs or Craft bazaar type sales however the items can not exceed more than approximately 50 per month. You can not use our products to produce items created in any "mass production" type of way.
