I have a stamp set that someone from Canada wants to purchase. I've never shipped/sold out of the USA. Can someone who has done this give me some advice? I had preferred to be paid by money order or check to save the Paypal fees but am wondering if Paypal would be a better way to go. Do I just find out what the shipping would be from my post office? Are they any additional fees I need to be aware of? This is all new to me. Thank you to anyone who can offer assistance.
I accept money orders from Canadians with no problems. I cash them at my bank and i even received a Postal money order from canada. My bank or Po never charged me for cashing them.
I'm not sure why everyone's pushing the flat rate boxes for one stamp set. The flat rate box that is $10 is only the really small VHS size box.
All things considered, postage to Canada is usually pretty comparable to shipping within the states. It's a little more, but it's much cheaper than, say, shipping to the UK or Australia.
A bubble mailer is likely to be just as effective and a lot less than $10. A 12 ounce package costs $4.03 to send to canada ($3.09 within the US).
There is an international shipping calculator on usps.com.
Also be advised that you will likely have to fill out the green customs form.
I'm coming at this from the other direction ie I buy a lot of stuff abroad, mostly US/UK. Bubble mailers are definitely the cheapest option but my understanding is that you don't get the tracking with this, however it is the best option for small parcels.
The green customs form is very easy. It is stuck on the front of the package and often just says what is in the parcel and the value and you sign it.
