I'm in France and would love to find a store that sells stamp supplies. Can anyone tell me what type of store I could ask for or even what section of the phone book to look in? I'm not in a huge town, so it might need to be more of a general craft store.
My French 101 course in college also neglected to teach me important words like stamping, rubber stamp and ink pad, so if anyone can help with a little stamping French language lesson, that would be so fantastic!
I guess in the yellow pages you'd look for Arts and Crafts - arts et mtiers
In the white pages try places that start with the word "Mmoires" or "Papiere" I think stamp is "timbre" but I'm rusty...and worse, I'm not bilingual...just Canadian, eh!
There is a stamp store in the Latin Quarter of Paris off the Jusseiu exit of the Metro near the University. It has some. They are VERY expensive and small selection.
HI girls
Je suis la francophone du forum. I'm the French-Canadian here...
So, in France, stamps are "timbres". If you are in a small city, look for a craft store: "artisanat". And a stamp pad is a "tampon". If you have any question, PM me.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm an American, but am finishing my undergrad degree in French. Woohoo! I just returned from a study abroad program in Paris and was surprised to find a craft store in the mall at The Louvre! They had a wide variety of crafts including stamping and scrapbooking! The prices were comparable to what I was used to paying in the States.
Ok, so I'm not a French speaker, though I did take two weeks of "French for Travellers." I'm a former German teacher (now substitute teaching while kiddos are young) who finds the word for stamp pad really funny. ;-) I've got funny stories about some of our German translations too. :-)
Just had to say thanks for the laugh and for an interesting thread. I haven't been back to Germany since I've been seriously into stamping. It would be fun to go since I can't find really good stamps in German online. ;-)
