Good morning,
It is time to clean out my craft room. I am surround by lots of handmade cards by me and others and I have 3D projects from years.
I have all the cards anybody gave me and all the items from swaps that I have ever done. I have doing this craft since 1999.
I love all of these but what do you do with small pieces of art when it is time to part with them. I don't have any ideas. I will take all the cards that I made and never mailed to local nursing homes and give them to elderly that I know so they can have cards to send but that will only make a dent. I am afraid I am going to have to send them to the local recycle center I really don't want to do that.
Check here on SCS for the monthly charity that takes cards, Ronald McDonald House, Operation Write Home (NO glitter), skilled care facilities, maybe a school art teacher would have a use for 3D items.
In addition to what Arlene suggested I recycle for my own use. I'll take off the embellishments, etc. for my own use; cut interesting areas into inchies, and cut down pieces that I can use for mixed media.
I don't know what to do with cards other people have sent me I can't use their art work as my own. I could cut the front of the card off and use it for something but it doesn't seem right to send a card someone else made and the receiver will assume it is my art work. The only thing I can think of is to throw those cards away.
I had the same problem. I ended up donating all of my 1700+ SU Demo only card fronts to a non profit, that just closed, for use by our troops overseas. I'm now contributing any new cards to Ronald McDonald House charity on a monthly basis.
I repurposed the cards my friends gave to me and sent them along to the troops as well. I never took credit for them and have always given credit in my blog posts, etc. about who made them. I also told my friends that's what I did because I didn't want to throw away their handmade cards.
I will check out both Lesley's and Ching's suggestions. Wow Ching you sure did make a lot of cards and moved them on to a very good cause. Lesley I don't like it when my cards are thrown away either but reality strikes, doesn't it? I certainly like rebuilding cards from other's art work now I have an idea how to do that.
I used to collect cards and refront for shipping to the soldiers. Last count I had sent just over 50,000. I always used a generic hand stamped stamp on the back rather than my personalized stamp.
May need to start making more cards for our troops too.
I had a demo give me a bunch of card fronts and I put them on a base and sent them on to Operation Write Home. I just stamped their stamp on them and didn't take credit for them. Also if you have a college near you talk to Res life and see if they want them. I have a few college girls I give cards to and they love them so much. I can't make them fast enough for those girls. There are still a good group that love the written word.
Gee this group thread is so generous not only with their cards but with your response to my question. I looked at OWHome and couldn't tell if they are still taking cards for our troops it looks like they must be if you all have been sending your cards to them. Thanks again.

TTB, you can also send to the Ronald McDonald Houses. WE have a monthly collection going on here at SCS. Pam, who responded a few above is the current May host. Here's the thread and her address is in the first post. I"m the hostess for Jan of 2016 and would certainly welcome your cards too if you want to send to me as I'm sponsoring my local RMH in my city. There's a hostess each month as we all are trying to collect cards for our local houses that provides housing for kids with cancer, etc. while they receive treatment. the amount of cards they are collecting is smaller and very specific now that there are less troops deployed.
the general cards like I love you, and I miss you and happy birthday are always welcome but, be sure to follow the guidelines.
