Default Which punches to buy first....

I want to start getting some punches...don't really want ALL of them, and I have word and slit. I would like to know which punches you use the most, and what you would recommend collecting. Wonder if there might be some new ones in the new catty! Thank you very kindly for your responses

I love the daisy punch--very fresh and fun! Sometimes, I use the negative to sponge daisies on envelopes.

The 1/2" circle punch is great, especially with Alphadots or Little Pieces.

I use the double circle punch a lot with invitations--print out the info on vellum and tie it to the card with silver cord.

Bet the new catty has some new ones too. . .

Hope that helps!

Boring as it sounds, the square and round stamps are ones I grab for all the time. Both can be used to mat each other (eg small square mounted on large) for all sorts of images. I LOVE mine!

I do use my word window punch probably as much as the squares.

I agree if you are asking where to start. I also would purchse the 1 3/8 AND
1 1/4 in both the square and circle. It's a great place to start.

squares and circles would be my suggestion - there are so many uses for these right out of the gate that you'll wonder what you ever did without them!

Add squares and circles. I find them to be so versatile. I do use my 1/2 inch circle a lot too. I'm glad you have the window because it is so fun to make tabs as well as openings.

I own a lot of them all of a sudden. Oops! I love being able to layer the squares and circles, but use the squares (1 3/ all the time. Plus I like my corner rounder, but not sure if you would qualify that as a punch. I also use the double hole punch (pig nose) when it comes in handy. I have the daisy but don't use it very often, need to start working on that!

The silhouette in the catty is actual size -- looks like 1/16" to me.

I want the word window (hello, buckle cards!) and the slit punch for gift card holders... and I've never been a punch girl!

I agree - the first ones you should get are the large circle and square punches. They are staples in any crafter's closet.

You should then get the Fiskar's hand punches - the 1/8" and 1/16" cirlce punches. If you have an eyelet setting kit you can use that to punch too, but I find the hand punches to be way easier for tying ribbon through, etc. Along the same vein I would get the Fiskar's 1/4" bar one. It's great for threading wide ribbon through. BTW, you can get all these punches at an hobby store or online for much less than the SU catalog.

For embellishments, I would say a flower punch and a heart punch are very useful.

For corner adornment, the EK Success punches are great. I love the notched one, and the Square Steps one. Oh, and you should eventually pick up a corner rounder, too.

Another use for the Word Window Punch, as has been discussed elsewhere in a thread, is to punch out the typed names of the SU inkpads from label paper and sticking them on the ends of the inkpads. Just the right size! And I'm loving the Big Buckle cards using that Word Window Punch.

The Word Window Punch creates a slot, approximately 1 3/4" x 3/8". If you look in the Resources section under Big Buckle technique, you can see what it looks like.

My votes would be for: slit; horizontal slot; word window; corner rounder; and 1/2 inch circle

The ones I use the most are the squares and circles, word window, the small corner rounder, and the hand-held 1/16 (for brads) and rectange (PERFECT for adding ribbon). HTH! :-D
