i do this all the time it looks SO GOOD especially if you are not wanting to cover up a cute decorative paper --when you print on vellum the paper still shows through--have fun
I've done it quite a bit. One piece of caution though....give it a bit to dry before using it. Unless you want to reprint it I wouldn't even "test" it until you let it sit for awhile. I find when I print on vellum it takes a bit to completely dry and I have found myself reprinting too many times. If I would only listen to my own advice I'd be all set LOL
i've heard that once you print on vellum, you can emboss. has anyone tried this? i'm sorry, if this is not the appropriate place to put this question. but it sounds like from what karinlm says about the ink not drying quickly, that it would be possible?

That's awesome, I'm going to try printing on vellum this weekend for an Easter card design. I ordered SU's vellum cardstock and have an ink jet printer. I was also given advice about the drying issue... but god, yes, embossing would be a fantastic idea.
I'm definitely trying it Sunday and will post back and let you know how it worked.
I have access to a laser printer. Any benefits of printing on the laser over the ink jet? Or do you think they both produce the same quality? My guess is that the laser printer wouldn't be as quick to run & would be dry faster? Anybody have any comments?
It has been awhile since I have done this but the thing I remember about using my laser printer is that is sometimes warped the paper a little. I think it is because of the heat generated for setting the toner. It still took time for it to truly set-up, even on the laser.
I used SU vellum (not the cardstock) and ran it thru my inkjet for baby shower invites - I just had to watch and pull each sheet of paper and set it aside for about 5 minutes before anything touched it - i.e. don't set it to print 10 copies and walk away to have the pile on top of one another.
It worked out GREAT
I didn't adjust any of my settings - just regular old printing - only on the vellum paper instead of regular paper

I used the transparency setting on my inkjet and it printed WONDERFUL!!! Rubbed my fingers over it 5 minutes later and there was no smearing at ALL.
I used the Normal print quality setting and Transparency paper type and just adjusted my settings for the paper size (it was 5 1/2 x 8 1/2) - I am thrilled! I would imagine the same settings would work for other vellum -- I did notice this vellum had a slightly shiny side on one side, so I printed on the more matte finish side. The vellum I used was from Staples ("Create on your own computer accessory kit" -by Gartner studios/uprint.com) - 50 half-sheets vellum and strips of white organdy kit.
I printed wedding invitations on vellum and then embossed them with detail clear, and they were beautiful, I find everytime I put my vellum throught the printer using clear ep makes it easier, and then I know I won't have any smudges!
Isn't it weird how some things work for one person and not another? I printed on SU vellum a few days ago and used the "transparency" setting on my HP Photosmart injet printer and there were little tiny horizontal lines through a lot of the letters. So the next time, I left it on "automatic" and it printed perfect.
I have printed with an inkjet printer on vellum and embossed it with detail black, but had to be careful not to overheat the vellum because it would "warp". The look was really nice because the stamping underneath showed through the words.
Darn wish I had read this thread half an hour ago. I really wanted to print out the poem "When I am old" to use on this card Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
I had the whole thing pictured in my mind but then decided against it figuring the vellum would smudge and smeer as it was printing!!!!!
Oh well I printed the poem on regular cardstock then cut with sculpted scissors and added it inside
