I realize that I'm very slow to this topic, but I just had to report! I ordered the new In Colors last month, just got my new inks last weekend, and I have to say...
I LOVE THEM!
I know that a lot of folks aren't crazy about them. Yes, they are super juicy. But they also work FABULOUSLY on photopolymer clear stamps! No puddling ink!
I'm going to have to slowly replace my old school ink pads one day!
I love the new pads too, but I have too much money invested to replace mine. My biggest problem comes when using both kinds. I press hard on the old ones and then forget and press hard on the new ones! I need to remind myself that I am using a new ink pad!
Yes the new pads are nice for stamping, BUT I have a very difficult time with Direct to paper inking. All I get is a Big Blob!!! No more nice "feathering" on the edges of my paper.
I fear that is long gone with this new pads and I will have to go out and buy new pads just to due this technique if I want this effect on my cards.
Useless someone has some tips for me.

You might be able to achieve a similar result by inking a sponge (or if you use the blending pads by Ranger often used with their Distress Inks) and "feathering" ink onto the edges of the paper. Different applicators (make-up wedges, sea sponges, etc.) will probably have somewhat different effects so experiment to find one you like.

It's just that I had it down to a science, You know :p
Then SU goes and makes new stamp pads......
I just don't have time, I just want to zip...zip get the cards done. You Know what I mean ;) UGH!

The new ink pads are what got me to break down and host a party...instead of cards, I had a few stations that each had a little item that could be used as a party favor, classroom treat, etc. so even "non-stampers" came and enjoyed it. And I used the 1/2 price hostess picks I earned to buy some of the color family sets of stamp pads, so they were a lot cheaper!
I finally had a chance to really sit down and play with inks. I compared SU old inks with the SU new inks using photopolymer stamps and here's what I found:
1.) While the saturation of color is a little better with the new inks, I found a lot of feathering on the outside border of the image. Not as crisp as I'd hoped.
2.) The old inks gave a crisper image, but again, inconsistent coverage, especially with solid image photopolymer stamps.
So it looks like I'm back to square one!
I, too, am in the camp that LOVES my Versafine ink...I only wish they had a big variety of colors to choose from. AARGH!

The ink pads have changed? I am just getting back into SU after a few years and everything has changed! Do they still fit in the color caddy?
They are the same size. They just have a different type of pad. It is firm foam rather than fabric.
