Needing more Help Spellbinders Holiday Tree

I have just bought the Spellbinders Holiday Tree 2012 set and I am having so many issues getting it to cut out. Can anyone help me. I am using the Cuttlebug with a C & B plate -- I read some where that someone put a piece of wax paper between the die and cs but it is still not cutting out. I have tried a few extra sheets of cs as well and it still doesn't work -- arrrrrrhhhhh -- so frustrated. These die are so expensive over here in NZ that they should work. Any help would be very grateful. Thanks

If you bought the die set in a store, I would take it back with a sample of your attempts. You may have gotten a bad die.

I have a friend who bought a intricate Spellbinder die and it just wouldn't cut completely through in spots. I asked for assistance on this site and she tried all of them but none worked so she took it back to the store and they exchanged it for her.

I had an item I ordered online that wasn't performing as advertised so I called Customer Service. She asked me to send a sample to the company customer service attention to her (she gave me her name). Got an email back and they sent me a new one that worked fine. She didn't ask me to send the defective one back so if you bought online, maybe try this.

I know there is a person on this site that works for Spellbinders that has responded to other people request for 'fix' suggestions and maybe she will chime in.

Good luck!

Are you using plate A, too?

crazykim 10-07-2012 10:04 PM

Yes -- I have A base plate -- and C & B

Have you watched any of these videos? Shapeabilities

Maybe you can get some hints.

Yes I have -- I am using the die correctly with the correct sandwich but it just wont cut the middle of the tree out. It indents it but not enough I can't even us a knife to poke it out as it is not cut through. I have tried with extra shim and even another Cuttle bug machine. Very frustrating caus it is a beautiful die.

Have you tried turning it sideways? I have a die that works better turned and closer to the end of the plates (instead of the middle).

I'm just thinking so I apologize if you already tried those things.

Yes I have turned it sideways -- I have not put it to the end of the plate so I will try that. It is a big (long) die so I dont think it will make much difference but I am going to go and try it now. Thanks will let you know

:( Boo hoo hoo -- still a no go. I think I am just going to take it back -- it's like the middle is not sharp enough to cut through the card.

crazykim 10-08-2012 12:11 AM

right I thought I would give it one more go -- extra shim as much as the machine would take -- ran through 6x plus I also ran it through the embossing way and there is still a section that is not cut . I give up. I have emailed Spellbinders and FB them so I will see if they get back to me but I can't see there being any other way to do this. Really disappointed caus it is such a pretty die. But there is no way I am going to make 20 cards and have all the issues I am having it will take me ages.

It must be so frustrating for you, trying to get this die to work. You might just have a defective die. Here is one more thing I would suggest. Put a few layers of masking tape on the back (not cutting) side of the die, in the places where the die isn't cutting. Maybe that will help. Good luck, and I hope they replace it for your if it's defective.

Maybe try going to the Memory Box website, click on the tutorial button. (Memory Box dies cut a more delicate image than many other companies' dies.) Dave has some suggestions about how to remedy areas that don't cut completely through the paper. It is hard to be really specific since each machine has its own 'sweet spots'.

Good luck! I don't like fooling around with a product to make it 'work' so can understand your frustration.

HI there! I hope that you've received our Facebook response... as well as an email from customer service. If you have not... please contact me, Kelly, at KLoubet@spellbinders.us As the community has stated above... you may have a bad die. It is true that this particular die is very intricate and does need some wax paper to help it along... you shouldn't be having the cutting issues that you've described. Thanks so much for reaching out.

WOW -- thank you ALL for taking the time to help me with this issue. I re tried everything you all suggested and had no luck. This morning i did get a reply from Spellbinders and what they suggested did work to a point. Turning the die on a angle so the point of the tree was at 11.00 run through and then turn it so the point is 2.00 This is work but I cut out 6 trees and 3 out of the 6 still had areas that did not cut through so then ripped. I have decided to return the tree and they have given me a full refund. It is a stunning die and Spellbinders products are wonderful. Just his one for me was to much work for the cost. Again thank you all for being wonderful stampers and helping me. xxxxx

I know you have said you are returning the die, but here is another suggestion should you run into this again.

Try putting a shim between your A plate and the next plate (some use the C plate next with the die sharp side up, some use the B plate next with the die sharp side down). I have a Memory Box die that is extremely intricate and was having a problem cutting just the middle portion of it, even with lots of shim at the top (to the point I thought I was going to break my Cuttlebug). This helped quite a bit. Also, I taped the die down to the plate, which seems to help as well.

Are your cutting plates new? Sometimes, after several uses, your cutting plates bow. If it is bowed in the middle, it may not cut properly. Check your cutting plates to see if they are flat.
