Default Cricut Expression 2

Hi,

I just opened my new cricut and I'm lost! I wanted to by SVG files I think thats the extension name. I went to try to purchase the cuts alot program just to find out I can no longer use that....

HELP! What do I do now? What can I use? Any cricut experts?

The new machine really scares me and I'm trying to USE it not just collect dust.

thanks
Cynthia

I believe you can go to Cricut's Craft Room and use that program for free, here .

I demo the Expression 2 at Michael's and we were told to tell customers about the Craft Room when demonstrating. I'll be honest, I haven't tried the Craft Room (I own the original Expression) and we don't have internet access at the store for me to play with the program. I hope this helps.

You can't use SVG's with the Cricut E2. It's a cartridge base machine unless you use Cricut Craft Room to buy Cricut files that are not in a SVG format. I am sorry. :(

First off, don't be afraid of the machine. I have one of the original Expressions and SCAL, too. I use SCAL often (I never up-dated my Expression so I can still use SCAL). That being said, I still use cartridges--all of the time. If you cannot return the new Expression for a machine that will let you use SVG files (Silhouette, Eclipse, etc.), maybe you can go thru whatever cart handbooks you have, choose a few items that you would like and start cutting away. Cut them in different sizes, using the different keys--accent, letter, card--whatever. And then make notations if you really like something. The new Artiste cart has some of the cutest little 3D items along with cards, letters and more. Did you see the new Create a Critter 2? I don't have it yet, but it sure does have cute things to create. On my blog I post some of the cute and pretty things I make using my E. All I can suggest is just play, play and play some more with your new E.

I'm really disappointed I wish I would have know I couldn't cut svg files that's the whole reason I purchased the machine. :0( I wanted to make 3d letters I seen on sure cuts a lot website. There's other programs out there is it compatible with anything? Else other then craft room?

Hi Cynthia~~Sorry to say, but I don't think there is anything else. I wish there was something else. Can you take it back to the place you bought it?

Yes, sorry to say, you are stuck in Cricutland with only Cricut cartridges and Cricut-specific cutfiles available through the Cricut online-only design program called Cricut Craft Room. In CCR, you can only use/manipulate Cricut files. You cannot import any other file type or work with any other file type.

If you are truly interested in designing freely and using cutfiles you can find/buy all over the web, try to return your Cricut or sell it.

Older v1 Cricut Expressions that have not been updated can use SCAL or MTC, but the Expression 2 comes straight from the factory *without* the ability to use an open design program like SCAL and MTC. The Cricut system is now meant to be a closed one dependent upon Cricut cartridges, Cricut cutfiles, and Cricut Craft Room only.
