adhesive troubles
I'm coming to the experts for advice! I moved from Florida (very humid) to Arizona (not so much humidity!) and I am having trouble with my adhesives staying sticky for almost every project from card layers to 3D projects. I've tried to use SNAIL and sticky strip, placing it on both surfaces to be adhered but in a short time the layers or seams are coming apart. Any advice? TIA for helping me out with this. Christine |
I live in Calgary and its also very dry here and I use the ATG. I haven't had any problems with things coming apart. You may also want to try a wet adhesive. A lot of people like the Tombow Mono (with the green lid). I haven't tried it yet since I have a lot of Sobo glue that I've been using for a couple years and it works great too. Another glue that you can use that won't warp your paper is Zip Dry. Its stinky, but it works great too.

I just moved out of Arizona and preferred the ATG when I was there too. Thankfully it works well in humidity too!

I have found the ATG to work the best. Once in awhile I'll use a wet adhesive for certain projects. However, I found if the temp is over 80 I better have the ac on or the wet adhesive won't hold. I was working on a project (selling to someone) and my husband hadn't turned the air on yet that day. The temp in the house had reached 80 already & I was using a wet adhesive & it would not stick for anything, so I switched to a different brand & that wouldn't work either. I turned on the ac, waited an hour, went back to the project & everything started working fine.

I suggest Zip Dry as well! It's a liquid, so no worrying about humidity affect it. It is super fast drying and doesn't wrinkle or warp your papers like most liquids do.
|
Another vote for Zip Dry...It works great in dry climates as well as humid!

Tombow Mono (or Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive as SU! calls it) is my FAVORITE glue of all time! I've used Zip Dry too and like the Tombow so so much better!
|
I use the ATG. It's the strongest that I've ever used.
|
ATG for me, although I do use the tombo mono too!
|
I agree, ATG and Tombo Mono.

I live in very dry northern Montana and I use ATG, Scor-tape, and Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive (liquid glue). I've never had any issues with stuff staying together (of course, we don't get near as hot as Arizona in the summer but it gets to 55 below wind chill factor here in the winter!).
When the temp edges upward, I have noticed that I have to "burnish" or rub the Scor-tape in place on both surfaces. It's just a habit now to do it with both Scor-tape and ATG. Good Luck! |
Definitely get the ATG. It is good in my state of Fl;orida and it will be good in the dryness of ARizona.

I wanted to add that no matter your climate using a liquid glue is really necessary for securing down card stock that has been run through an embossing folder. I was making a bunch of retired card fronts from SU! Convention swaps into full cards and realized that most of the people who had dry embossed with the Big Shot used some sort of tape (ATG, SNAIL, & I think one was even scor tape) to adhere them. It wasn't a problem to just pull that piece off and in some cases, it was already coming off. Just thought I'd mention as not a lot of people think of that! :)

I looked a some online but couldn't tell if the tape included was two sided. I purchased one from Hobby Lobby and when I got it home the tape was not two sided. Help me out here please. LS |
I live in the high desert of Oregon with humidity often in the single digits and low teens. We usually don't get much warmer than the high 90's at the hottest, so maybe that's the difference, as I use Scotch double sided tape almost always. For embossed pieces, I use the Scotch dot roller which seems a bit stickier, but too expensive to use for everything. I could never manage an ATG with my hand issues, but I have had good luck with Score Tape and Red Liner for some jobs that I don't want both sides of the tape exposed immediately. Tombow green-lidded is my choice for a liquid glue for paper. My problem is that most liquid glues dry too fast. Maybe your glue is drying too fast and doesn't adhered first. Just a thought.

P.S. I live in Central CA, where it's pretty dry and certainly hot! I have never had any trouble with things not sticking using the ATG tape (I prefer the real Scotch tape vs. the knock-off versions). I also love Scor-Tape. Good luck! |
Got my pink ATG when they first came out, with a 50% off coupon at Michael's, that is how I buy my refills too is with a 50% off coupon (even if I don't need any). Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann's also sell the gun and refills...LOVE mine!! :)

BTW, I wouldn't order a case at first, unless you're sharing with a group; it's a LOT of tape. In the past, I've always ordered by the dz pack - 1 or 2 packs at a time. Still pretty inexpensive/roll price. thetapedepot.com |
