A few weeks ago I posted a request for anyone that might have a card lying around to mail it to my friend's husband, who was just moved into a nursing facility with Alzheimer's. True to the generosity on this site he received many, many cards and the fun part was most just signed where the card came from. I heard from my friend last night, (someone mentioned me so she figured out where the idea came from). She was so stunned, touched and truly moved by these gorgeous HAND MADE cards from total strangers. She absolutely could not believe anyone who did not know Steve would hand craft a card just for him.
Her pastor was also touched. She lives in a small town and the church is very small but they somehow want to do this for other people. That is the power of a RAK, and the spirit with which they are intended, to pass that along so maybe at some point a random act of kindness will touch every human on the planet and touch their heart in a way that they want to pass that feeling along.
So thank you my stamping friends, Steve and Nancy were truly touched.
This is great to hear. I mailed a card to Steve yesterday and would be pleased to participate if we can help his church start a card ministry.
"But God demonstrated His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us ... being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him." Romans 5:8 & 9
I am going to ask Nancy what she wants to do, I could drive up to her (it is about 2+ hours away) and give them a card making lesson, or we could donate cards to them to start their ministry.
I guess it comes down to the whole teaching to fish analogy
Teach them to fish! They will love it and it would. Be a good way to bring people together for a greater purpose. I'm glad they enjoyed them so much. I'll bet they are still giggling about a card from a muscrat!
Sophie I think the cards made her and her pastor see God! She keeps messaging me about these wonderful cards and how total strangers created them just for Steve. She is beside herself. I need to get to her and show her that she too can create gorgeous cards for others to enjoy
I never thought this simple request would be so powerful!
That would be great to share your hobby with her. My grandpa had Alzheimers, and my grandma would go to visit him at his facility several times a week. They brought in a photo album to keep in his room so that people visiting could go through the pages, pointing out people and reminding him of their names and funny stories, but you could help her get into scrapbooking to make an album for him. Also, my grandma knew how to play the piano so she would go to the common area and play for quite a while during most visits, to the enjoyment of other residents and staff. If the facility allows it, perhaps she could do some portable stamping in a common area - it would be something she could do while spending time with him, and may find others there who would enjoy it too.
