Default Painters Tape for die cutting

I have seen many people using painters tape to hold their dies in place while they run them through the machine. I bought some painters tape and it shredded my paper when I tried to pull it off. What is the best brand?

I use the blue 3M brand found at Lowe's & Home Depot. I haven't had a problem with tearing or shredding at all. Hope that helps!

When you're using the blue painter's tape with Nestabilities, you can usually place small pieces of it only on the die and the outer waste portion of the cardstock. By keeping the tape away from the design area, it won't damage your die cut.

For any cardstock shapes that require taping over the die cut area, I use Scotch Removable Tape instead.

Judi, if your tape is too sticky, try first sticking it to your jeans before you add it to your paper. That will help rid it of some of its tack.

Try using small pieces to hold the die on the outer area. The placement is important - place the tape so the sticky portion is on only the 'waste' paper area not on any portion of the die cut image you want to use so even if it tears the paper, it will be on the portion of the paper you will be throwing away.

I know sometimes we think 'More is Better' but in this case, it is not!

Default Post-It Full Adhesive Notes

I agree with Crafter 4 Life that where you put the tape is critical; keep the adhesive off the "pretty" part of the die-cut.

I was using small pieces of blue painters' tape to hold dies in place, but what I had was stickier than I wanted it to be, and I didn't want to buy a whole roll of the low-tack variety. I tried Post-Its, but it seemed wasteful to use only the sticky area and discard the remaining plain paper.

Then I discovered Post-Its that have adhesive over nearly all of the paper, with only about 3/8" without glue. They're called Full Adhesive Notes, and I found them at Staples. Now I feel better about using small pieces to hold dies in place, and they're working well for me.

Scotch makes a temporary tape that is just wonderful. I have used it for about 3-4 years now. I usually buy it at Office Max.

Scotch Removable Boxed Office Tape

I keep the roll in a tape dispenser on my desk so it very handy. One day the hubby used it to wrap a present with.......it was so funny! He calls it "Fake" tape! LOL

Default dirty tape

What I do for dies is use tape that is dirty. What i do is pick up lint from a sweater or something with lint and then use the tape that is not so sticky. And I do agree that placement of tape is very important!

Default dirty scotch tape

I guess I should specify scotch tape is what I use. But I think I will try some of these other suggestions too.

Post-it comes in a Label Roll dispenser now! It was $5.00 and comes with 700 inches!! You can make your piece large or small. LOVE a dispenser!

I too use the blue painters tape. As a matter of fact, I reuse it & reuse it until it has no sticky left. I always have about 6 small pieces stuck to the top bar on my Big Shot. It's handy there when I have my die placed just where I want it.

I use small pieces of Washi Tape...haven't had any issues with it sticking or tearing my card.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one with little blue pieces of tape stuck all over the top of my machine.

A friend gave me a tip to use the plastic respositionable sticky note tabs. They can be used over and over, don't rip like postits.

I had used the 3M blue painters tape and even tried "unsticking" it by taping it to my jeans but it still pulled up shreds of paper. I'm going to get some of the repositionable tape and see how that works. I like the Post Its on a roll too. I also like the idea of keeping pieces stuck to the top of my Big Shot (that was a "duh" moment for me!). Thanks to all!

I like using the Elmers repositionable glue stick with scraps of paper for my "tape". Its not really sticky so it doesn't rip what its stuck to and I don't feel guilty using up tape to throw away. I also use it to make my own sticky notes with my scraps of single sided patterned paper. I also save seeds, so I make resealable seed envelopes with it.
