Default New Catalog

Just got my new catalog in the mail today. I've been thru it only once and there are so many things to love. The new DSP and the paper packs are very nice. New project kits where you can make many cards and of course stamps, and embossing folders. I am excited about the new catalog.

Does can someone clarify if the set on page 222, In The City is for public sale or is it for demos only??

That set is a hostess set. You can choose to use your Stampin' Rewards to purchase it. You'd need a total of $160 in total sales to earn enough Stampin' Rewards to get it.

Booo! LOL! I knew it was too good to be true! Darn it!

This catalog format doesn't specify that tidbit...

I can't wait to get mine! I think it might be a bit, though, so just need some patience. Fortunately, it is the end of the school year so there are LOTS of chapels, award programs, picnics, etc. to keep me busy. I hear the SU! catalog is super-yummy with all kinds of goodies.

It says "host" in blue fancy font to the left of the stamp set's title.

I have had a couple perusals now and have a few opinions! As do we all

* I'm not taken with the new incolours particularly. Sometimes when I play with one I change my mind though.
* I do like the Layered Leaves embossing folder and sheet music background stamp
* I have my eye on Nature Sings for the hunter/outdoorsman in my house, as well as the Christmas sentiments would be good.
* Country Livin' with the old car and guitar would be good for the musician and old car enthusiast in the family.
* the Pretty Label punch is nice! I do love punches because they are so quick, and it would look well layered with other punches.

So that's what I have my eye on initially. Not keen on any of the Dsp. And unfortunately the orchid set with dies gives me the Heebie Jeebies... I don't know why but I dislike it intensely! Mind you I don't like orchids in the first place.

Actually it does, but it's at the beginning of the section, not noted on each set.

I posted similar on another thread but will post here as well. In my catalog the tranquil tide and emerald envy look exactly the same on the color page at the beginning of the catalog. Can someone explain/tell me the difference in the two colors? Maybe a page each color is on so I can see the difference or a blog that compares the two...something where I can "see" the difference in the two colors. They do look a tiny different on the family pages at the back but it's too small to really see the difference, hence hoping for color samples either on a blog or in the actual catalog. TIA.

Found this on Pinterest:

I got off the InColor bus last year - too many too similar to what I already have to justify getting them. This chart pretty much confirms that opinion. I still have Pink Pirouette, so I don't need the Powder Pink, Summer Starfruit can stand in for Lemon Lime Twist, etc... I find it somewhat annoying that SU! gives us very slight variations on a theme instead of truly different colors - like bringing back some clear colors instead of all of these muted ones (which I love, but sometimes I want a true yellow or pink or blue or lavender).

Lol. I thought it was just me, but the In Colors are really annoying to me as well. I won't go there.

I've only been through the new catty once; and I should confess that my stamping mojo has left me...so maybe that's why I didn't see a whole lot that really grabbed me.

I did like the wood plank embossing folder and the sheet music background stamp.

I like using the grid paper pad to stamp on so I will probably order one of those.

I will order some of the sizzix adhesive sheets to use with word die cuts too.

I have never been thrilled with any of the InColors except Blackberry Bliss. That group was the most appealing to me of all of them I bought that assortment of paper and the ink pads, as well as a separate pack of the Blackberry paper.
The only new color that interests me is the Fig, but I need to see it in person.

Maybe when my mojo comes back I'll find more I like!

My Lemon Lime Twist and Summer Starfruit are distinctly different shades. I LOVE LLT. It's a wonderful BRIGHT color

Remember too that the in colors aren't created to be drastically different than the main line of colors, they are colors that are big in the fashion/home decor world and that are very on trend. This is SU's way of keeping up with color trends in the world at large.

While I understand what you're saying, I'm not sure that it's completely viable. I work in the home decor industry and clear brights are HUGE right now! And I still maintain that if you are going to expand your range, it should include at least one or two colors that aren't "more of the same". And please don't think I'm bashing Stampin'Up! - I have A LOT of their stamp sets and dies and punches, and EVERY color of ink and cardstock up through the time I got off the bus! I just have enough to allow me to be picky now...

I agree with this. I think it is wonderful SU has incolors and they change every two years, to stay fresh, but a variety would be better than slight variations.

Sue,

I totally agree with you that a lot of the colors are very, very similar to current or recent colors. I do like the Lemon Lime and think that that's different.

The one thing that I'll say in defense of the current in colors is that they are the perfect shades for the new Climbing Orchid set.

I think these colors were selected just for that set, and SU completely ignored how the new colors compare to current and older colors.

Personally I have moved away from SU ink for a few reasons:

1) New foam pads dry out very quickly
2) Ink can stamp splotchy
3) Lots of color gaps that are not being addressed by in colors
4) Ink pads are much larger than the industry standard and take up too much room to store

I prefer wplus9 and Hero Arts inks. I'm also trying Lawn Fawn and am open to Simon Says Stamp and My Favorite Things inks.

Year after year SU introduces new versions of mustard yellow -- Crushed Curry, Hello Honey, Delightful Dijon. I am crying for a good, bright yellow orange, a happy lemon chiffon, a pale butter.

Likewise, I need a good bright purple. I use Eggplant Envy and Perfect Plum for sympathy cards. Even Wisteria Wonder feels subdued to me. I would love some bright pops of purple to combine with colors like Coastal Cabana and Melon Mambo on birthday cards. So I got Hero Arts Grape Juice -- nice, bright darker purple, Wplus9 Cockleshell -- nice, bright mid-tone purple, and Lawn Fawn's Fresh Lavender for a fresh, happy, light purple.

There have been some very nice and different in-colors:

Blackberry Bliss -- so yummy
Watermelon Wonder -- nice and bright, almost a neon
Dapper Denim -- a nice blue that's not greenish

I was on the fence about Mossy Meadow and Cool Cucumber, but I appreciate that Cool Cucumber was a nice, bright happy green.

However, I didn't buy any of these colors, because of reasons 1, 2 and 4 above.

Thanks for weighing in, Elizabeth - nice to know I'm not alone! While I have all of the colors of ink until last year's InColors, I don't have many of the pads. I buy reinkers and cardstock and make my own "spots" - saves a LOT of space. I, too, fill in color gaps with other company's inks. I may get a wild hair and switch over completely (I'm considering Gina K and Wplus9 right now). We'll see...

While I understand trendy, new fashion colors, I making cards with my inks and I want it to be bright and cheerful and put a smile on someone's face. The duller, muted colors just don't do it.
The only new "must have" stamp set is for me is "This Little Piggy." The only other stamp sets that I have an interest in is "Playful Backgrounds" and "Dragonfly Dreams." As I try to keep a handle on my stash, I am much more selective these days!

Oh, I don't think you are bashing SU at all. As a demo, I've rarely liked all of the in-colors and actually find myself drawn the most to ones that have been distinctly different from the color families.

Lemon Lime Twist is the brightest green I've seen in SU's color collection since Glorious Green.
This year I love the LLT, and Berry Burst. Not sure yet about the Powder Pink because it is very similar to the two light pinks we already have although I think it's a little peachier than BB and PP. Don't like Fig at all and Tranquil tide is only meh in my book so I won't be investing in those two colors at all.

If the clear brights are all the rage right now can you please tell Target. I was trying to find something fun and colorful to wear for Easter and was hard-pressed to find anything springlike at any of the stores I regularly shop at. I was so depressed.

Anyhow, I do agree that too many of the in-colors have been too similar to old/current colors but there have been quite a few that have had just that perfect shading that met a need not previously met. And like you, I've become more discerning with my crafty purchases in general. Mostly because I've got "limited" space and the older I get I'm finding that too much clutter in my creative space depresses me rather than motivates me and I'm tired of being in a seemingly constant state of purging.

I'm with you on the "muted" colors. The ones I definitely don't like are what are called "tones". They are pure color mixed with both black and white...in other words they are greyed. And they only look muddy.

I like black added to color...it darkens colors to a rich jewel tone.
I like white added to color...it makes pastels. Although, with just a bit of white colors can look weird.

But both? No thanks.

I have pulled more than 25 colors from my collection of SU...papers and inks...because the colors are objectionable. I now have colors in groups of 2-4 that coordinate with each other and are much clearer colors. Well, I kept a lot of turquoise because I love it...especially with red! I think I'll switch to a different company for a light yellow. Neither banana or saffron made the cut.

Just throwing a wild thought into the ring...

When I was going through my colors, making color groups that work well together, one thing I was seeing was that many of the last few sets of in-colors would work well in sets with some of the basics. Made me get to thinking, "WHAT IF Stampin' Up was trying to create color groups (like me) that worked well together...and WHAT IF they were intending on coming up with matching sets of alcohol markers...?" And it would be logical to work those colors out before a big renovation.

Thumbs up

I received my New Stampin up! Catalog the other day. I skimmed through it.

I must say I really LOVE IT!!! I really love the stamps and the layout is awesome,.

You can really see what the Designer Paper looks like. and how they used it on the cards and ideas.

I have a long list of things I'm hoping to get this catalog year!

Wouldn't surprise me at all, and would make sense. Stampin'Up! has been around a long time and I'm pretty sure that there is logic behind most of what they do, even if it's not immediately evident to the "average Joe"... I may follow your lead on the color group idea - I could be happier with fewer options and I don't love EVERY color I own - so thanks for mentioning it!

I have the new catalog and I must say I'm underwhelmed. My demo has the In Colors swatches and the only one I like is Berry Burst. The pink is too close to Pink Pirouette and Blushing Bride, and the other colors are totally 80s. There are few, if any, stamp sets that caught my eye. I do love the Wood DSP so will be getting that, along with a few other supplies that are not new (like the StampaMaJig).

I'm finding my stamping style, which is traditional/classic. Not much in the catalog that fits that bill. I'm now hooked on Altanew and Art Impressions because their stamps lend themselves much more to coloring.

Yes, I want a pale yellow! I can't remember if it's PTI or MFT that has the perfect color.....

Paula...I'm leaning toward the PTI Lemon Tart for the pale yellow. I don't have a sample of MFT at all but in the photos both the lemon chiffon and the banana split look more green. Gina K lemon drop is also more green. SU barely banana and so saffron definitely tend to the orange side, along with being toned. JMHO.

I like many items in the new SU catalog. However, I wish all stamp sets were offered in the wood mount option. Call me old school.

It's funny how many of you are underwhelmed. I hated the 15-17 in colors (taupe? dijon? blah) and was seriously underwhelmed with the 16-17 catalog. But I have more than a full page of items on my wishlist and I love the new in color grouping!

So funny, I wish more sets came as photopolymer, lol.

Fionna, yep, Lemon Tart is what I want. Thanks for figuring it out for me.

I cannot thank you enough for posting this. When I started buying SU, it was the month before the In-Color set with Summer Starfruit was retiring. My demo said it was cheaper to get all the IC's, since I loved the others, so I did. I hated Summer Starfruit, and had only used it maybe three times until today! I get that LLT and Summer Starfruit are probably very different IRL, and LLT is still on my want list, but seeing you point out the similarity between the two encouraged me to sub it in with color combos that I'm seeing using LLT, and it looks awesome! I finally have a use for some of that "ugly" paper and ink.

I'm glad that it was helpful! I often substitute one color for another that's kind of, sort of in the same range... Now that I've seen some samples of LLT, I will fully acknowledge that it is FAR different from Summer Starfruit! It's more chartreuse than any other color that comes to mind...

My wish is all the images were to come in Wood Mounted, Clear Mounted and Photoploymer for those who want them.

I don't understand why some stamp set you can only get one kind of stamp.

Even if I really LOVE the stamp set. I will not buy Photoploymer stamps!

I'm the same though the opposite - I never buy wood, and removed it from the few I had. I try not to buy rubber but have. (And I never buy acrylic.)

If I really truly really love it, I'll get the photopolymer. But I definitely prefer rubber and if a set came in both, I'd rather pay more and get rubber. On the other hand, SU moving to more and more photopolymer reduces my wish list considerably ;-).

Question Just curious...

I'm just curious why some of you prefer rubber to the photopolymer stamps...I'm OK with rubber but if I have a choice I get the photopolymer because it's SO much easier to line things up...and don't get me started on the "clear mount" SU stamps!!! Don't get why SU hasn't figured out a way to be sure the labels actually DO cling to the stamps?!? I have used them after trying various tips found here, but feel like I shouldn't have to mess with them- other companies make cling stamps that cling very well...with the labels on! OK, rant over:rolleyes:;)

I have arthritis and having to mount and unmount, then remount on the storage sheet for every image stamped, takes the joy out of the process for me. Also, when i bought and used the non rubber, i had difficulty getting crisp images and I tore a number of stamps just getting them off the storage sheet. Sometimes the ink would bead up on the stamp. For me, it's mostly my arthritis and image quality and my own frustration.
