Default Need poem for "First Time Gramma" card

My friend's daughter is having a baby. I have the baby shower gift ready, but just remembered that I would like to make a card for my friend. It's her very first grandchild.
* Baby shower is tomorrow morning.
* My friend is a very young gramma - only 42.

I wrote this short poem for you. Don't know if this will work, but maybe it's a start for you, something you might be able to use.

A special occassion is very near,
the birth of a baby to someone dear.

The pitter patter of sweet little feet,
soon to become a grandmother's treat.

The time is near for you know who...
You'll be the very best grandma at 42!

Thank you Cindy!!! I was hoping you were online tonight. Most websites have poems written from the point of view of an older grandchild, praising Grandma's characteristics. Nice, but not what I needed.

My SIL is going to be a first-time grandma in April and she is only 42. Do you mind if I steal this poem from you, too? And the idea from you Garnet. To think I almost didn't get on SCS tonight.

Here's a great one if you know she's having a girl...

In the top drawer of her dresser
is one pair of little shoes
and a pair of little booties
from which her mom can choose.

Although she cannot walk just yet
out with mom she goes
for strolls in different shades of pink
from her head downto her toes.

But soon the little newborn
has to a toddler grown,
in patent leather party shoes
she's walking all alone.

But someone's watching closely
as she takes each shaky stride,
and though she may not notice it
her mom is at her side.

The nursery is now a bedroom
and the baby's crib is gone.
The little girl is off to school
with brand new sneakers on.

She skips onto the schoolyard
with a step as light as air,
while mom, though smiling bravely,
feels at loose ends standing there.

The little girl grows older,
and with each passing year,
her first high heels and cowgirl boots
eventually appear.

And then, as if by magic,
the little girl is grown.
She wears the latest fashions
bought with earings of her own.

Then one fine day she's walking
with her father at her side,
in shoes of fine white satin,
for now she is a bride.

I wonder where the time has gone,
and whistfully recall
my little girl, in little shoes,
so innocent and small.

And I am a granny,
and daughter, your a mom,
your little newborn daughter
is the sunshine to your home.

The top drawer of her dresser
is filled with little shoes,
and many pairs of booties
from which you can choose.

Cherish each passing moment,
the laughter and the tears
for days go by so swiftly
and gather soon to years.

The little shoes she will outgrow,
and before you realize,
she'll blossom like a summer's rose,
before your very eyes.

Be always there to walk with her
when up against the odds.
Make sure she knows that she can count
on mother and on God.

And though she'll spread her wings and fly,
as all our daughters do,
one day she'll wear a mothers shoe ,
and she'll come home to you.

-Catherine Chandler.

I made a few paper bag albums with this poem and my daughters (3 and 5 at the time) constantly asked me to read this to them over and over!

And here's another cute one:

Blessed be innocence, smiles from the heart,
Small dimpled fingers that take things apart,

Noses that wrinkle at spinach and such,
Eyes filled with wonder for they see so much.

Blessed be questions with no easy answers,
Bubble-bath swimmers and mud-puddle dancers,

Climbers and diggers and builders and bakers,
Dreamers and gigglers and up-at-dawn wakers.

Hearts that are gentle, wills that are strong,
Minds learning left from right and right from wrong

Blessed be hugs that wrap around your knees,
Sweet angel voices that sigh "Once more, Please?"

Blessed be, "Read me a story" and then,
Blessed be each whispered, "Bless me...Amen."

Blessed be sleepy eyes, each little yawn...
Blessed be childhood before it is gone.
