I need advice I am a preschool teacher and I am closing the school due to the upcoming wedding (only 16 days- I don't think I mention that enough they haven't me in China yet!! Sorry I am just so excited!) anyway! I have had most of my kids for over a year and I love them all dearly I am making them each a little 6x6 album and I was wondering as a mother/parent what would you like to see about your child in a memory album from a teacher! Here is what I have any other ideas would be great! THANKS!!
I have:
a little paragraph saying their first day the last day, what I loved about their personality and at least one fun memory I have of that child.
a pic of me and their child
a pic of their child and my long term assistant
pic of their child alone
pic of their child with friends
pic of their child eatting lunch
pic of their child napping
pic of their child playing
Could you put in a small piece of artwork that their child made? That's always personal. I love getting stuff DS made in Pre-K.

I would love something like that - maybe if you have them a few more general pictures of the kids with their school friends. Our daycare put a big board up with pictures of the kids from throughout the year and I love the one my girls are in with thier little friends - I wish I could have some of them....

forgot to mention I am also giving the a digital cd with every picture I have taken over the time so that they can print extras and change the ones I chose!
All I can say is Wow you must be one great teacher. I have 3 kids that vary in age from Grade school to highschool and I rarely get a Thank You cards for gifts i send let alone anything like what you are doing. They are going to absolutely Love anything you do...
As far as the album - Artwork - handprints - sample of childrens writing - A not to parents from the child maybe? -
Wow, how awesome! I am a mom and a preschool director. I would absolutely treasure this. As a fellow teacher, how very kind and sweet of you. What an incredible gift. They will treasure these forever. I think it all sounds great!
"Whose child is this?" I asked one day
Seeing a little one out at play
"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile
"Mine to keep a little while
To bathe his hands and comb his hair
To tell him what he is to wear
To prepare him that he may always be good
And each day do the things he should"
"Whose child is this?" I asked again
As the door opened and someone came in
"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile
"Mine, to keep just for a little while
To teach him how to be gentle and kind
To train and direct his dear little mind
To help him live by every rule
And get the best he can from school"
"Whose child is this?" I ask once more
Just as the little one entered the door
"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled
And each took the hand of the little child
"Ours to love and train together
Ours this blessed task forever."

What about a copy of their child's name written by the child and dated. I have several of these from each of my kids. It's quirky and cute and something you don't think about much in the later years, but when I find one of these little pieces of paper with their name scribbled with backward e's and crooked y's I can't help but smile and remember their little hands writing their names!

SO cute! It's the perfect way I feel about most of my kids... Thank you for sharing your ideas everyone! YEAH! Only a few more pages/ideas (4 to be exact!!) to go after adding the artwork, hand prints, toy photo and friend photo and poem! I know there are 4 more ideas out there!! PLEASE!!!
What about a pic of the parent or parents picking up or dropping off??
Some might be too young for telling you what they want to be when they grow up...like in 20 years when they will look back at this book.
Where were you when my kids were in child care. If they haven't told you ...your ROCK!

Great idea with the parent photo! Thanks for the compliment, I am very lucky to have supportive parents and overall a great bunch of kids. They really are my life, my fiance's been away with the Army, all my family are a few hours away and the only friends I have are you guys and one of my assistants so really the kids are my life and I really wanted to try and do something that showed them that! I really hope they come out nice so far they look awsome!
Ok I can add a parent pick up/drop off photo!
I need 3 more ideas! only 3 pages to go!!
Here's another idea...maybe to go with their eating picture. Ask them to describe how to make their favorite food. My son's nursery school made a recipe book for our X-mas present with this idea.
This is my DS contribution...
Gingerbread:
You make black food.
Then you add sprinkles.
I don't touch because it is hot.
You eat it after supper.
BTW you are a special teacher and the kids are so lucky to have you!

Not sure how old all of your kiddos are....but could they draw a picture of their families, and or could you ask them what they want to be when they grow up...maybe some kind of in 10 years I see myself...but you would have to put it on their level. Not sure of your kids ages...it might be over their heads...been thinking on this all day...thinking of all the cool things my kid have done in preschool...
My dd is going from preschool to Kindergarten and her preschool teacher (who I would like to kidnap and keep in my attic to homeschool all of my kids until college) gave her an envelope that says DO NOT OPEN UNTIL HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION - I think it has some artowrk, maybe a personal note, I am not sure, but it is so special for her and for me!
A teacher in my area had her students write a letter to themselves that she held onto until their high school graduation (of course, you could include it in the scrapbook and tell them when to open it). It was so neat to hear what the students wrote and to see how they reacted to it later. It meant a lot to so many of those graduating seniors. Being in preschool, your students probably can't write too much, but you might make a little "questionaire" in which they could just fill in statements about themsleves like, "I like to ____" or "My favorite food is ___". It would probably be pretty neat for them in fifteen years or so.
I was a high school teacher (until I became a mom) and I totally understand how these students can be so special to you. It's amazing what an impact these young people can have on your life! God bless you for taking the time and compassion to have an impact on their lives, too!

My son's Pre-K class made paper holiday wreaths, decorated the wreaths with their little finger prints and finger paint and this poem was in the middle. It is priceless.

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.
But every day I'm growing -
I'll be grown some day
And all those tiny handprints
Will surely fade away.
So here's a little handprint
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.

We've had four kids and all are beyond prek, but the things I liked most were handprints and art. Also a small self portrait was very cute.
If you want more photo suggestions, do you have any form field trips? Pumpkin patch, zoo- maybe include one of those.
Hope this helps- what a wonderful idea!! your parents and kids will cherish them forever!
the poems were great too !!!
Let us know how they liked them! and congrats to you!
