How about a scrapling? Here's one that my friend, Teresa, made last year and it would be quick and easy to create. SNOWMAN SCRAPLING

You could add a name to a matchbook candy holder that holds a Ghiradelli (? sp) candy. Here's a LINK with a tutorial.

Here are some placecards I've done for other occasions, with some thoughts on adapting them for Christmas--perhaps they'll give you some inspiration.
embossed Thanksgiving (click on the photo for the full effect of adding a pinch of dazzling diamonds glitter to embossing powder--would look lovely with a silver-embossed snowflake)
bridal spiral rose (what I love about this one is how the glitter on the glue dot shines--click the photo to really see it. Or maybe you could do a punch art poinsettia instead.)
Anyway, hope that helps jumpstart your creativity. . . .
How about a single peppermint patty with a little name tag attached to some ribbon? Here's link with multiple candies in a gift bag: FAVOR

For my kids at Thanksgiving I made place settings out of decorated binder clips. The cute thing about this idea is that they can be used as photo holders after they are used as place settings.
Just came across this great idea from Silke Ledlow: http://silkeledlow.blogspot.com/ I may even try this one myself...you could tuck a napkin in the stocking rather than a gift card...or do both - lol!

Binder clips make cute place card holders. You could either put the names in the or their pictures. Check mine out at www.royalcreationsbyjess.etsy.com
