Mary Brown's pink swirling stars card?????

My guess is that she wheeled Pretty in Pink on the white cardstock, then wheeled in Versamark on vellum, then used the heat and stick on the vellum image, added Dazzling Diamonds, then lined the two layers up. It definitely looks like there is a layer of vellum on the card.

That would be my guess ... but what do I know?!?!?!

Here is my guess...and I certainly could be wrong.

It looks like she wheeled on vellum with a either PP craft ink or versamark then applied the light pink embossing powder from the subtle stack mixed with some dazzling diamonds. Just a thought.

I'm not sure about the answer to this question, but another thing that works is to put dazzling diamonds glitter into your clear ep and you end up with a similar look. Kathy

Maybe she inked up the wheel first with versamark, then with pretty in pink. This will make the ink stay wet enough to emboss or to add Heat and stick powder.

How is the ribbon thing done?

I've tried to duplicate it once, and my result really pales in comparison.

And here is how I am going to make it:

1. Use Pretty In Pink Craft Pad with the Star Wheel. Apply Heat and Stick. Shake of excess and heat until glossy. Be careful.....not too close. Pour on Dazzling Diamonds and shake off excess. Heat again and brush excess off with brush.

2. Stamping the Square Star stamp the same way. Stamp Merry Christmas on square with Pink Passion in the center.

3. Layer as appropriate and tie ribbon as shown.

I have stamped on vellum with classic ink and embossed with clear powder. The classic ink does not dry very quickly on the vellum and gives you enough time to add embossing powder or Heat & Stick. Maybe she used Iridescent Ice or Hologram EP.

Here's my guess: I think she wheeled in Versamark, then applied Heat'n'Stick and then PINK GLITTER. I agree that it is done on vellum. The square is stamped twice - first in pink passion. Then in Pretty in Pink with the outside edge trimmed off - that is layered over the passion one.

I just got this wheel yesterday and I'm a PINK FREAK!!! Can't wait to try this

Gorgeous card! I don't know how Mary made it, but if I were going to copy it (and I will!) I'd make it by wheeling onto vellum with dye based Pretty in Pink, sprinkling on Heat & Stick while the dye ink was still damp (it takes quite a while to dry on vellum), heat just till glossy, then sprinkle Dazzling Diamonds glitter and heating some more. The rest of the card looks pretty straight-forward.

Okay... I just tried it and here's what it looks like by following my guess above:

Okay, here's my first attempt--w/o having all the supplies listed above. (Shoot, I have to post it in the gallery before I can get it here. --Here's the link to where it WILL be in my gallery Gallery at Splitcoaststampers )

Anyhow, I first rolled the wheel on white w/lovely lilac. Then I rolled it on vellum w/versamark and embossed w/non SU glitter embossing powder. Then I lined up my vellum cardstock w/ the stamping on the white (well, actually I had to flip over the white and try again, because I didn't try to start the wheel in the same place and it wouldn't match up correctly) and trimmed it down. then put a strip of lovely lilac underneath and mounted on a lavendar lace card.

To get the happiest of holidays square, I stamped the square in lovely lilac. Then I stamped off on a scrap and then stamped again on white cardstock (If I had lavender lace ink pad, I may have not had to stamp off twice). Then I stamped the thank you on the faded square, trimmed the square down and mounted it on the bright lovely lilac square. Trimmed leaving a little white and mounted on lovely lilac.

The ribbons are not SU ribbon, therefore they don't match so well, but it was the best I could do. I might try again tomorrow using burgandy or dark blues, for I do have those ribbons. My silver cord looks funkier than Mary's, but, again, it was my first try doing a ribbon like that.

If you know Mary, tell her WE WANT INSTRUCTIONS!!!! How DARE she post such a beautiful card on her site and then not tell how to CASE it! The nerve! Some people! [img][/img]

Ok - here's my try with supplies I had on hand. Didn't have pink glitter, but I did have magenta glitter so I did it with that.

I'm attempting to attach it here. Let's see if it works.

Darn I can't get it sized right. It's 640 x 510 (instead of 480). Dh not home to help me. I'll try getting it in the gallery.

I am pretty sure that she wheeled in PINK PASSION on the white. then versa mark on vellum with heat and stick and glitter. then just lined them up! the vellum dulls the pink passions color to make it softer like pretty in pink! you can tell it has 2 layers.

I was debating whether it was Positively or Passion. So hard to tell colors in scans.

Hi All! Susan Eubanks told me that you all were discussing how I did the swirly pink card. Actually the very first posting where it was quoted is exactly correct except I used Positively Pink. I ALWAYS use my wheels with my classic pads (HATE buying all those cartridges when I'm just doing a card so I don't) and when you wheel it onto vellum, it will stay wet long enough for you to add the Heat and Stick (LOVE that product - ESPECIALLY with our classic pads on vellum) and once set, add the dazzling diamonds. This is a real WOW at demos. I just wanted to show that this whell and set aren't 'just for Christmas'.

Glad you all liked my card...I absolutely LOVE this site and visit all the time although this is the very first time I actually posted so I hope it is correct.

I just placed an order yesterday - I decided that I *had* to have that Holly wheel, but I resisted the Swirling Stars wheel - now I wish I'd gotten it! But I have Whirly Twirly, so maybe I could try it with that.

Okay...here's the details for making this card. Wheel the swirl onto vellum using Postively Pink classic ink. Add the Heat and Stick, heat and then add the glitter. Layer onto piece of white cardstock, then postively pink cardstock then the folded Pretty in Pink Card. For the "it's your day" layer...stamp the swirl image from Happiest of Holidays twice...once in Positvely Pink and once in Pretty in Pink. Cut out the center section of the swirl image and layer on top of the other so it looks like it has a Positively Pink Frame. Stamp 'it's your day' in the center using Positively Pink. Other than that do some layer and add LOTS of ribbons (I AM the ribbon queen!) It actually is a pretty quick card.

I'm jumping into this thread out of curiosity. I'm getting ready to order my first wheel tonight and I thought the best bet was to buy a couple cartridges in the colors I will use with it most often. However, Mary B says she uses the wheels with the ink pads - how does this work? Do you still need a cartridge, do you keep rolling it over the pad a few times - does this only work if you are doing a small area? I'd love an answer before I place my order tonight. Also - how do you do the versamark with the wheels? Thanks Ladies!

It works great when you are just doing small areas like cards but you can only go across once then you need to reink. I usually run my wheel across the pad 4-5 pads to make sure they are well inked. I do have some cartridges that I use for the larger objects but since most of what I do is cards, this works best for me with minimal investment.

I agree with Jami-- maybe she versamarked, then heat n stick then pink glitter. The picture close up posted to this thread gave it away.

Yep, once, years ago. We lived in a single wide trailer at the time. I can't believe we got all those cookies in that little trailer! I was the evil Cookie Mom who badgered everyone until they picked up their cookies. I think we had them all distributed in record time! :lol:
