I love these kinds of stamps and there are many more I want.
Questions -
~Do you use all the stamps like for the poinsettia there are 5 stamps for the large poinsettia -
~ how do you determine colors to use or do you play around until you find a combination you like?
~Did you make a chart so you do not forget?
~ What are some of your favorite stamp sets?
I know the price is a bit higher but to me it is worth it. There are quite a few stamps per set and I love the results and creativity they offer.
There are so many sets I want. I think they make gorgeous images.
When i ordered they also had great customer service and my order was sent out the same day!
I have these stamps - Love them!- and I either find an image I like in their idea gallery they link to the designer's blog (by clicking on their name) and read how they did it.
Or I just play.
I don't tend to make a chart but I do blog so I write down what I use and if I blog it my info is there for me to look at.
I really like Memento with KSS because there is a depth of color that can be achieved just by stamping over with the same ink.
I have the multi-step Ornament & Stars set and the multi-step Christmas Lights set -- they were my first KSS purchases (but not the last!). For color ideas, I used the pdf files from the KSS website. After I did the first ornament, I sat there with my mouth open -- how very cool it looked! So realistic!
I have a drawer full of those KSS stamps. As one of the posters mentioned - Maria has put up a template of colors for use with the many (and sometimes very many) layers of stamps. Go to her home page http://www.kitchensinkstamps.com and then look in the left column. You probably need to scroll down. Take a look at the tutorials. Look under color recipes for quite a few of her examples: rose recipe example. Have a blast! Oh oh oh! If she's missing one that you're looking for - then shoot her an email. She LOVES to chat about her stamps. *I wonder if this plug earns me a discount on more stamps.* Last thing - many of her stamp sets go on sale on Wednesdays.

Yes, you will probably want to use all 5 stamps for the large poinsettia. But the poinsettia is easier to line up if you will stamp the layers in reverse order. Start with your darkest color for layer 5 and then work backwards.
As far as colors go, I am generally working with designer papers and use their colors as a starting point. In order to get varying shades of a color, one very successful method is to stamp off once to get a litter shade, stamp off twice to get even lighter. This method works especially well with Memento inks. Just play around and find what you like.
Maria's color charts are awesome if you want help with color choices. Design team members are asked to include detailed information about colors and order of layering on their blogs as well.
The set that made me fall in love with Kitchen Sink Stamps is Hearts & Roses and it will always remain one of my favorites. Other of my favorites are Multi Step Pine Trees, Multi Step Big Leaves, and all of the flowers. I'm a flower kind of girl!
Thank you all! I did read the tutorials and i tried the reverse stamping and its WORKS!!! Much easier to line up than going from 1 to 5!
I am so going to be ordering more very very soon. I love the realistic look and the multi colored effects. Thank you for the tip on stamping off. I am going to try that.
I have only one set of KSS -- the pansies. I keep looking at the others but haven't bit the bullet so far. I really love the way the images turn out with these stamps.
that will help give you some color inspiration when using these beautiful stamps. Maria has done a great job at putting together these charts using various companies inks.
For some of the images - it's a lot easier to stamp out of order. Most of the time with the KSS Multi Step Stamps I find myself stamping 4, 3, 2, 1, as it's easier to line them up. Depending what colors you chose, you can get a different look by the order in which you stamp.

As many KSS sets as I have, and I never heard of stamping these in reverse order...I'm anxious to pull these out now, lol! I've admired KSS from day one...

Give it a try this way - I'm sure you'll love using them like this! Don't forget KSS runs monthly challenges - we'd love to see what you create!

I found they are much easier to line up by doing this. Mine came out perfect.
I like the KSS setrs, but I'll admit, I'm a bit intimidated by all those layers of stamps!
I'm sure that's rather silly since I do use a SAMJ! lol
It's a lot easier to stamp without the use of a SAMJ. Try them in reverse order - it will be like a light bulb moment. Reason being you are stamping darker to lighter with your inks, much easier to line them up.
Be sure to check out the Multi Step Stamping 102 Tutorial, it should help - as there are some great pictures of how the beautiful KSS images line up when stamping them
I don't own any YET but I'm constantly amazed at how they look - such depth and images look so real! I have to say that I, too, have been intimidated with the process and that's what's kept me from purchasing, but after reading all these tips, I may finally have to take the plunge.

Kitchen Sink Stamps recently came out with Mini Sets - their great for those who haven't used KSS before. The new Multi Step Lilly of the Valley (available in the Year of Thanks II) is also great for those just starting out with KSS Multi Step Stamping - it's super easy to line up.
I have two folders full of KSS. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!
Maria's tutorials are great, I love her color combos. On my blog and gallery I have a lot of cards I made with KSS.

You are right, I had never imagined it would work. Then, I carefully followed Maria's color combos and step orders and I had some great surprises!!!
I've always been amazed with these stamps. I'm dying for the poinsettia set, but not sure if I'll be able to get the same results as I've seen in her gallery.

I didn't think I would either but I do! It is easy going in reverse and the results are just fabulous!!!! I say buy and play!
The reverse order of stamping is like a miracle!!! I loved these stamps before and am even more thrilled than I was! Thanks so much for this tip. I am putting several more sets on my Christmas wish list now that I know I can manage them better! It is much, much faster to stamp in reverse order.
Polly, I hope Santa stuffs your stocking with KSS goodies!!

Glad you're lovin' the reverse order stamping! Looking forward to seeing what you create! Happy shopping!
I have a few sets & I just love them. I find it's easier to set up all of my stamps before I start stamping. I have several clear mounts so it works for me. So, if a stamp is three layers I'll put all three clear layers onto my mounts. Then it goes really fast. I don't have to stop between each layer to pull off a stamp and put on another one. I get my coloring ideas from teh files on the KSS site. I'm going to be sure to try the reverse technique.

I like to do the same thing, Jil. I have a drawer full of acrylic blocks!
Oh it's so nice to see all the KSS fans saying all these nice things and having FUN with your stamps!! I need to go check out the gallery to see your lovely creations!! The reverse order stamping definitely is much easier I think. I also always find that when my blocks are clean I have an easier time - lol!! More new stamps coming soon - you'll love the next release!

Aren't you sweet, Deborah!???! Thanks so much!!
It isn't hard to get addicted when you see first hand the gorgeous results you can get with multi layered stamping!!
I was actually afraid to try KSS, but they had a workshop right here in town so I went. I had an awesome time and got to meet Maria, and
Dee, Lynn, Liz, Lisa, and Tracy ( I hope I didn't forget anyone, but it was September so please forgive me)
Since then I've ordered 3 times SO FAR and love the products.
Maria truly give great service, way above and beyond so I know if I have a question she'll help me out.
I just play with the colors. Like for the strawberry I did reds and roses and went from lighter to darker.
At the class, they gave us the colors, so I wasn't sure how I'd do on my own. But it just wasn't hard.
I find I have an easier time with stamps that have distinct shape. The strawberry was easier than the hydrangea. Easier to line up.
And if I want to use all 4 stamps but only have three colors that I think will work I either stamp off on one color as one of the options or stamp the same stamp twice either with the same color or different colors. I'm sure the design team can explain that better than I did.
And like already said, be sure to enter the challenges, you get free stamps and it's easy and fun.
