Spring is here and summer is one week away! Here in Australia it is anyway lol

They say it's going to be a hot humid Christmas this year.

My christmas cards are all made just ready to mail out and I just have a couple of
bags and boxes to make for gifts.

Okay, problem fixed. I can't wait for my schoolteacher daughter to come home for the holidays. She helps me with the computer, holiday decorator, and fixer of all loose ends that have to be tied up.

We got a new dog, actually he is a rescue. Apparently the pounds in Alabama put dogs down after 7 days regardless of the dog. And there is a woman there who takes them from the shelter, puts them in foster care and when they are ready she takes them to places like Petco and people adopt them. Anyway we stopped in for something unrelated, and there he was....My mom originally adopted him but after 2 weeks her other dog got very aggressive towards him. My daughter had begged me to get him the adoption day, but at the time the adoption fee was too steep. When things didn't work out my mom asked if we would adopt him...so now he lives here with us...in our zoo.... But he REALLY is a cute dog, a good dog. He obviously was a abused by a man in his past as he is having some issues with my hubby and my son. But hopefully he will learn we are all his friends soon. He is a Daschund/Chihuahua mix. He mostly looks like the Daschund, but he has the shakes like the Chihuahua. He is my little shadow. Cant imagine why people had issues with him. He even gets along with our 4 cats...and a couple of them are getting used to him.

So I have been busy with him. but I will be doing a couple of classes in the next couple of weeks for Christmas. Then in January I am going to get serious about crafting so I can do more shows for next year.

Gina,

God bless you for giving that precious baby a home. We took in a abused basset hound a few years ago, it took him awhile to socialize with certain family members and he became a loyal family member for over 10 years.
My grandsons and their new puppy spent the holiday week with us, house sure is quiet now.

So, since it is so quiet, off to my craft room, I have things to do.

My son is looking for a dog that mix right now for his own first pet in his own home, he'd be jealous!

I'm just completing the last couple of pages of my mums scrapping albums (did 2), it will be her christmas present.
She has more photos but I will give her the next album for her birthday and hopefully the last one, or two, for mothers day.

He really is a great dog!! I was against getting a dog for a long time. We had a Border Collie from the time I was 16 up until when my DD was about 9 months old. (She is 10 now) She too was a great dog and I was afraid any other dog would pale in comparison to her. But this one has quickly found a way into my heart.

Gina, they all have a way of doing that! If you feed him, he will be your best friend . We just adopted another dog, yup, crazy dog lady here! We have a well balanced pack and everyone is getting along so well.

I have been trying to have someone else, currently my daughter, care for him as well. He is still a bit nervous around the boys, so for now it's just the girls taking care of him.

We have MANY pets. 1 adult cat, 3 kittens, 2 gerbils, a bunny, and many various lizards, frogs, toads, and turtles. Oh and 2 fish (that are pets, not food for the turtles).

Meanwhile my MIL tried to tell my DD that having pets isnt healthy. And that by having pets, we are going to end up getting very sick. Our house is probably cleaned more often then hers is! But whatever....

Gina science is on your side. Homes with animals are generally healthier physically and psychology, of course there are always outliers to any generalization.

I agree Kristen, pets bring so much to our live. We've adopted two puppy mill dogs, one has taken two years to get to where she trust hubby! With abused/neglected animals, you have to go low and slow, it's what they told us and it is so true.

Diane, I am so glad you posted this! I just remembered that I printed off a wonderful, illustrated quote for one of my granddaughters that I intended to frame for her for Christmas!

I had completely forgotten about it, and it is sitting here in a stack of papers by my computer. Thank you. Thank you.

I would have been so mad at myself when I found it after Christmas.

Here it is. My granddaughter Sophia is a total book nut. She is 21 now and has always loved and collected books (reads them all, too, lol.) When I found this I knew she would just love it. I just got finished framing it and it really turned out great.

Love the quote, she will love it. I have friends with a Cameo Silhouette, just don't know if I would use it enough to justify the cost. But I see a lot of projects to do with them, the personalized ornaments are so cute.

I found a basket of cookie tins and five packages of cute Christmas tissue paper, sales receipt was dated 2009, 75% off at Target, stashed away and forgot about. Perfect for some goodies, and two Christmas 6x6 album books, get those scrapped for my great nephews.

If I keep digging, I might have some breathing space in this house after Christmas. lol

Last year I made some Christmas framed art. They sold great! Problem was this year Walmart didnt sell the frames! They were long frames, like it held 2 of 3.5X5 photos.

Gina,

I know which frames you are talking about, I have used them before. Occasionally I see them in the stores, you just never know about WallyWorld.

Default Let's start ideas for next Christmas

Hello!
Great topic!! I just finished my craft fairs for this year......whew!! So after I took my inventory, I started to post all the things I need to make. I decided to make nothing but Christmas items since, in my experience for the past 5 years, people are looking for Christmas, hard to find, items. Every time a customer asks me if I make...........I write it down and see if it is feasible for me to sew it.

When I was a SU! Demonstrator, besides the stamps, I was more interested in forms, charts, and any thing that made things easier for me. I loved SUDSOL since there were so many awesome forms!!! Anyways, I do the same thing with sewing....I created a chart that I list every thing I use, right down to the thread. So far it helps me know how much to charge for an item on my tables. Then my boyfriend figures the percentage of what I want to make for each item. The only problem I have is I have created this information on a "dinosaur" computer. LOL! I don't even have internet service on it! But it does have Excel, Word, etc. with the operating system Windows 98. And my laptop upstairs has no Microsoft Programs beyond my trial period. LOL! Oh well!

Start making items now!!! And don't forget on your 2014 budget a category listed as FUN!!!

Have a great day!!!

What percentage do you use.
For my craft shows, I try to double my costs, then double it again to come up with a price.

Default Craft Fairs cont.

First of all, thanks to all of you who shared all your information, I certainly found the information very helpful!!!!

To answer DianeCraft's question: between 30% and 55%

It also depends.......I add up all the costs then divide by how many I will make, then get my cost for each one. My boyfriend has an app to figure out percentages.....items are between 30% and 55%. He figures out the percent so he feels involved, which is a good thing!

An example: For 20 cards. 5 cards with an envelope in a container from
ClearBags.com

Whisper White cs $8.50 / 40 = .21 each (I need to use 5 sheets) 5x.21=$1.05

Colored cs $6.95 / 24 = .29 each (I need 10 sheets) 10x.29=$2.90

WW envelopes $6.50/40=.16 (I need 20) 20x.16=$3.20

DSP $10.95/12=.91 (I need 5 sheets) 5x.91=$4.55

Snail Adhesive
Gold Cording
Card Container
Embossing Folder (All these products, estimated, = $7.00)
Ink
Stamps

$18.70 (all above costs) = $18.70 ? 20 cards =.94 a card.
.94x5=$4.70
In order for me to get 53% back on a box of 5 different cards, I need to sell the box of cards $10.00

Now this is what I do. I take no labor since I am very quick doing mass production. With that being said, when I create a food carrier, I use $8.00 an hour, and it takes me 2 hours to make one.

I had to learn how to do "cost analysis" of an item back when I was a Bakery Manager in a supermarket. I never thought any of that would come in handy until I started doing craft fairs! LOL! This works for me.

I keep these figures on a typed sheet in MS Exel. Again, my operating systems between 2 computers are Windows 98 and Windows 7, they aren't compatible, sorry.

I know this was allot my 1st year, but now that it has been done it is a blessing!!!! Each new item, I introduce each year, I actually time myself to see how long it takes me without interruptions to get a comfortable rate of pay per hour.

I will say this important message.......I believe what makes a success to my craft fairs are: I have items on my table like this year, Snowman Hershey Candy Bars, Snowman Soup, and Christmas Planners that entice customers to my table where they always buy and buy!! I made 300 Snowman Hershey Candy Bars, for intense, and do only 5 selected craft fairs and sold them for $3.00 each and sold every one of them cutie pies!!! That one item brought me $900.00, an average of $180.00 each craft fair.

I hope this helps everyone. Good Luck and Merry Christmas!!!

I just finished my last class for the Christmas season! We did a kids card/gift class here yesterday. My daughter (she is 10) was my lovely, very helpful assistant. Two of the girls are friends with her, and the third girl was their little sister. I took two of my best selling gifts and they made those, and then we did some stamping on Candles. They seemed to have a lot of fun! And it was nice that my daughter was here, she helped keep them on track and I found I wasn't doing quite as much running to help out.
I have one more special order to fill, which is 1/2 way done, and then I will be finished for this year. I signed up for an event in March that my son's Boy Scout troop is sponsoring. I think mostly I will focus on hair bows, cards, and Spring items. I have never done a spring event, so I don't know what to expect. The proceeds go to charity, so it will be for a good cause.

I will start building up next years inventory as well. But for now, the corner of the closet which normally holds my craft fair items is holding the Christmas gifts.

I wish I was finished for the year, and to add to the stress I will have two weeks after Christmas to get house back in order, cleaned, groceries stocked, double knee replacement Jan 14. Just can't wait, I see a future of walking with no pain or limping.

Thank you, I have great surgeons, going to have one working on each knee. I will be up and walking at least 8-10 hrs after surgery. Then 8 weeks off from work, got me lots of projects to work on, in between physical therapy.

I know we are down to the wire, but thought I would share this last minute, very cute idea for a neighbor or office gift. Root Beer Reindeers! Kristina Werner posted it on her blog today. It has all instructions plus a printable tag or card to go with it. Here is a link:
