I was a slug this past weekend, totally disgusted by my lack of fortitude to do anything. Three nights of call did not help, then this triple index heat here in Texas makes you want to hibernate with the air conditioning.

Christmas is coming, I got to get moving.

Gina, a a carnival theme would be a lot of work. My grandson wants a Hulk themed birthday party, and in my frugal ways, I am scouring the internet for a possibly easy cake I can bake and "embellish", cause my cake decorating skills are pretty basic, and game ideas. My kids think I am cheap, but $60.00 for a cake is ridiculous, I would rather put that money in a savings account
for college.

Well Patrice...most of the games we are doing are made from Recycled/found items. The Wood..I dont know what you call them...boards (like a piece of plywood) were out behind a neighborhood store. I asked if we could have them, and the Manager said "What else you need? He gave us some 2x4s, a couple of pallets, and a really nice wooden crate, like rectangular shaped. I got a bunch of stuff from the $ store, and spray paint from Walmart. I am not saying it probably didnt cost us (I didnt keep track), but we are also using the same games for my son's party as he wants a carnival game party too! We bought prizes from a US Toys, and I get a discount there. We stuck to neutral prizes so anything we dont use, we will for my son's party! I am making pin wheels as decorations, and trying to figure out how to do balloons without helium. Granted the games aren't professional, but they came out pretty good if I do say so myself! I have to take pictures and put it on my blog!

I agree, back to basics are the best ideas. I had a family get together over the weekend, and my sister has a beautiful backyard, nice pool. We all brought pool toys, cooked on the grill, had kids of all ages playing, having a great time, and my grandson would not participate, could not put down the video games or i pad, would hardly stop to eat. I finally had to take it away from him just for a few minutes for him to say "hello" to his cousins, then right back to entertaining himself. His dad said he was fine, and to leave him alone, but I don't think it's normal for a little boy to stay indoors all day by himself. To each his own I guess.

Gina, sounds like it was a big success.

I wish my son wasn't going into middle school this year (for so many reasons ), this would have been an awesome gift for his grade school teacher!

Wow, what great idea. We are having a back to school pool party next week. Since it is 100 degrees plus here in Texas, cooking on the grill is out of the picture. I am going to make a " school lunch room menu", fix chicken spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, make it simple. Decorate the tables with black pots, sunflowers, and incorporate pencils and crayons into the flower arrangement. Have black and yellow ( school bus colors) for tablecloths.
My son rolled his eyes at my plans, but I think anyone who is planning to just show up to eat, swim, and not help can keep very quiet.

Also, on my after Christmas shopping list, I'd like to pick up some nice Christmas dp and accessories for way cheap.

I'm going to make:
  • Christmas wish lists (altered 1/2 jr. legal pads) for the ladies at school,

See, I HAVE to start now or I'll never get done!!!

Oh, and I'd like to try having a booth at a local Christmas craft fair next year, so I'll be working on some sets of cards, notepads, post-it holders, that sort of thing!
Thanks for sharing the scallop envelope box idea, Kristen! I have this die and didn't know what to do with it. Such a great idea!

So I made this back in June for a Stampin' Up! Convention swap but just posted it on my blog today: http://sarahlovestostamp.com/2012/08...l-decorations/
The way I did the ribbon makes it especially easy and not fussy at all if you want to mass-produce. My goal is to cut extras of the Christmas cards I create for the next 4 months of Christmas card classes and to assemble any extras right after all of my class participants leave THAT NIGHT! If I don't do it then, I have piles of "card guts" that just sit around gathering dust.

One of my other goals is to make 3 of every card I make - one for me, one for my mom, and one for my MIL. I want to give my mom and my mother in law a box of cards (I bought 2 card keepers from SU! last year to do this) as a Christmas gift!

Good idea, if a winner of a card works out, produce another. Lett stamp cleaning in my thinking.

I love quilted cards (I don't sew) but I had one that I could not wrap my head around how to make it work. My one sister helped me, but I really needed the sister who quilted to make it make sense. But your block is very pretty.

The movers will be here tomorrow, re model starts Monday. The quilt will be the main splash of color in my bedroom. I am tired of dusting, moving stuff to vacuum. Be uncluttered, and I hope with the colors in the quilt I will not look too " country", but a little more sophisticated. Not sure about valances for windows, what to use. We will have the wide wooden slat blinds to match wall pain color.

I am tired of re modeling, and I want to get my house in order, clean, and organized.

I want to make some sofa pillows with a stamped and enbellished design.
Can someone tell me how much larger the fabric square should be cut then the pillow form?

Bonnie,

go to E How, there is a tutorial on making pillows. You have to take into consideration the width, and how full the pillow is. Some stamped Christmas pillows would be cute, good idea.

Painters are here, house is a disaster, husband and I not sleeping well in guest house. Throw in about 12 nights of call for the next couple of weeks, and son has to go out of town for 12 days. He got promotion, has to go for training, so guess who gets the kiddos.

I love my grandsons, but I am trying to smile through my tears. They go to school 25 miles away from where we live.

We will make it, we always do.

I am hanging, or more like slumping over my chair in my x-ray room.

I promise I will get some Christmas ideas going in a few days, things are just a disaster right now.

Took the kids to school today for their first day! The place was a madhouse!! None of the first graders knew where they were going. The school hadn't sent out the information with their class #s on it. My daughter got hers, my son didn't. My husband and I along with the teachers took an HOUR to try to get all the kids to where they were going! There were kids that weren't assigned to ANY classroom! I personally lead at least 20 kids to their classrooms. On the upsode I know a bunch of the kids because I have gone on field trips, helped out with field day, etc. The poor teachers were ready to rip their hair out, and their day hadn't even started!!

First day of school is always hectic but that sounds like a madhouse! When I had a kid in school I helped on first day a lot. I remember a little blonde girl, going into Kindergarten, and she was so lost. And I asked her her name, and she had the littlest voice, I could not hear or understand her at all. But I got her where she needed to go finally. I kind of miss those days though.

My FIL works for the school so I sort of knew who my son had. My daughter knew who she had. I hadnt planned on helping, but one of the little girls that used to go to my day care came over and said "Miss Gina I cant find my class". I asked her where she needed to go but she didnt know. So I took her hand and told her I'd find out. She turned to a friend and told her to follow me. Next thing I knew I had 10 kids following me. So many of the kids were so soft spoken and a little difficult to understand at times. But I did what I could! Hopefully theri day was a WHOLE lot less hectic!! It helped that I knew some of the kids, and we know two of the teachers (I used to work with them) and we know my son's teacher pretty well, so we just jumped in and started taking kids to where they needed to go. I was just glad I could help.

I dropped off my "baby" girl to her last "first day of school", as she entered grade 12.

We have a tradition. I ALWAYS take the 1st day of school off and bring her to school and pick her up. After school, we go get lunch together. I don't think I will be able to do that when she enters university next year. She is eyeing a school 4 hours away from home.
Bittersweet is what today was.

I always take off the first day of school too. They arent real happy that I do since I work for a school, and it's also their first day of school...but...I do it anyway.

A senior, I can't even imagine. Next year my daughter will be in Middle school (starts in 5th grade here). Man that just worries me!!!!!!!!!
