I also would like to try the perpetual birthday calendars, especially for my Mom because she has so many people to keep track of! And I saw come adorable embossed velvet sachets using lavender and other types of herbs. I'd like to try those.

Also, stamping gift bags and bags for candy & cookies ahead of time so I have some cute containers for the treats I give to friends, family and neighbors.

This year I made ornaments for the kids on my Mom's side of the family. Since I didn't get the idea until November and I was busy making all kinds of other things I was up until 3:30 a.m. on Friday night finishing them so I could take them on Saturday. I still haven't posted photos and I never even got around to taking a photo of the boy's ornaments but I think they turned out pretty darn cute! I would like to make another ornament next year but I have to find an idea that inspires me and start earlier!

This year I made lots of homemade candy and gave away. I decorated some of the little 1/2 pound candy boxes with dp and stamps from Paper Trey. Here's what I made:

Mounds Bars ( Debbie Olson's recipe - you should try it! )
Mint chocolate Mounds Bars
Peanut Butter Fudge
White Chocolate Party Mix
Mint Chocolate covered pretzels
Chocolate covered Peanuts
Peanut Butter Bars (like Clark bars)
Chocolate toffee crunch
Rocky Road cups

I am still in the mood to make Christmas cards since I didn't even get to use half of my adorable stamps this year. I am going to start on some as soon as Christmas is over while I'm still thinking about it!

Happy Holidays everyone!
Wow all that sounds wonderful, would you mind posting some of the recipes? I would love to use them for Christmas gifts this year.

I spent the evening slapping primer on a wall. I wish I could paint better, but that talent I did not get. I am planning to put lots of "distractions' on the walls. Paint, new floor, total clean out, re organize. Plan to be back in buziness in 2 -3 weeks. Just in time for July, right on schedule. lol

It's nice to have an clean space to work in. Let us know when you get photos posted so we can see your new space. I presume that you are speaking of a stamping space?

today i made my first Lavender Wand of the season...if you have grow lavender this is a wonderful way to share it...i am thinking of making several and storing in a ziplock bag until christmas to preserve fragrance...then either tie them to gifts or box up 3 or 4 as a gift themselves...they are great to hang on the door, put in a clothes drawer, etc.
also attach a stamped tag to them.....idk...just thinking(typing)out loud! LOL

My room is sewing/stamping/scrapbooking/quilting. It gets pretty crowded in there. So I am having a garage sale in a couple of weeks. If I haven't worn it in a couple of yers, it's history. I counted up all the Christmas sweaters, I need my head examined, just keeping a couple of favorites. Going to unload a closet, put in shelves, get clutter under control. Get new tv,dvd player, going to be able to retreat there in comfort.

Painting is going slowly, just one section at a time.

Hey Cindy or Vegaswife! Can one of you gals help me? I LOVE lavender and just last year bought a house that has several plants out front that I THINK might be lavender. Last summer they had purplish flowers on long stems and smelled fantastic - and attracted bees like crazy! Anyway, here's the plant about 2-3 weeks ago as it's regrowing this year....IS this lavender, do you know??? If it is, I'd love some ideas of what to do with it!!
Thanks!

Toni,

That does not look like the lavender plants that I have but, I am not a lavender plant expert. Might just be a different variety.....What do you think Denise?

Here is a link to making wands http://www.allfreecrafts.com/nature/...er-wands.shtml

and another http://www.gardengatemagazine.com/ex...venderwand.php

The victorian era ladies used lavender to ward away insects, flavor waters to use in place of expensive vanilla, as a type of cologne and many other uses....lavender has healing properties.
HTH some....

I have a bunch of gardens in my yard, doesn't look like anything I have planted before....but, I am going to a garden center today and I will take a look around to see if anything there has a similar look.

Lavender plants need full sun, moist, well drained soil that is more sandy....similar to the Mediterranean.

Toni,
It "sounds" like lavender but doesn't look like any that i have ever seen....but yes you do NEED lavender...it is wonderful! LOL...don't get discouraged...it takes a while to "take off". What Cindy said is correct...also mine is on a very slight incline in my yard. We have a Lavender Festival in Tennessee in June...you guys would love it! If anyone is interested let me know. Here is you a tidbit that i found out last year...after your lavender has been in the ground a year..."leave it alone"...meaning don't water it..whatever water it gets from the good Lord is enough!!!! Surprised me to no end and surprised mine hadn't drown already! LOL

Lavender hugs!Denise

Oak Ridge,TN(outside of knoxville)....it is wonderful...very small quaint....lots of friendly people with information...some free classes/programs about lavender...crafts,homemade soaps, LAVENDER ICECREAM(it is actually pretty good), music, etc. AND there is what is called a Secret City Festival at the same time down the road with historical stuff...like World War II stuff...vehicles, tents,etc...i have never been to that one but it looks interesting.

I think it is some kind of purple sage, not lavender. They bloom off and on during the summer and come back every year.

Thanks, Craftymom!
I'll have to do some more research. Can't find a single person who knows what the stuff is! It was a shot in the dark that it was lavender because of the flowers, etc.

can you pick off a couple of the leaves, and crush them in your fingers? if it's lavender, you'll be able to smell it very strongly.

It looks like catmint to me. It has beautiful purple flowers and the bees love it indeed! It likes similar conditions to lavender, though it will tolerate a much colder winter. Maybe you have some kitty cats on your gift list, and you could make them some little pillows with this one? For a positive id, smoosh some leaves between your fingers. If it smells minty and peppery it's cat mint. If not, send another picture in a couple of weeks please!

You got there before me! It looks very like catmint (Nepeta) to me too. A beautiful plant to have in the garden, very floriferous and beloved by bees and, usually, cats. Definitely not lavender, which is also loved by bees.

Happy gardening!

Hi Kirsten!

I got a virus into my PC today....that is why I could not respond earlier. Thank goodness I have a computer geek for a husband and carbonite for back up!

But, I was guessing that it was either catmint or a rock plant as well. The scent will be the deciding factor. You still need lavender tho'!!

Hi Cindy! Sorry to hear about your 'puter! But it's awesome that you got it cleared up so quickly.

I need to get some more lavender too. I moved mine a few times and they eventually gave up the ghost. I also found out they're extraordinarily sensitive to road salt. sigh.

another way to tell if it is a mint is if it has a square stem. mint does, lavendar does not.

if it IS catmint, boy howdy do i suggest you find a way to contain it, cuz it will take over! when i plant mints of any kind, i plant them in a bucket or a pail, or a garbage can (cut in half) with the bottoms removed, so it forces the roots way down, and puts a barrier, so that the roots can't grow horizontally. (not sure if that makes sense or not, it does in my head, but.....)
