Does anybody else have this experience? The cards that I throw together in a hurry always seem to get the most comments. The ones I put a lot of time and effort into -- and, quite frankly, the ones I really like -- seem to go unnoticed! Sometimes I wonder why my taste seems to vary so greatly from that of others on this site. I'd love to hear from others about this.
If you are using a lot of subtle techniques on your time-consuming cards, they may not be showing up as much in the uploaded pic as they show in real life.
Yep! It seems my taste is quite different than the norm, because some of my fave, even soome of the faves i have from other paople's galleries, don't seem to get the love I feel they deserve!

Exactly!! I'm often disappointed with the pictures that I take. It doesn't seem to matter what angle I take the picture at, but the beauty of the card is lost. Like a get well card I did recently. I measured, and did mock layouts, and did multi layer pops and none of it showed up in the picture. It looks pretty plain. *sigh*
So . . . I comfort myself with the knowledge that I am happy with the results and it's ok if everyone else is less than enthusiastic because they just can't see it in the picture.

I think all of us truly appreciate a quick and easy card! I think people are sometimes turned away from cards that are more involved, cause they might not want to case or spend so much time recreating something that is more time consuming... (speaking for myself here!) I truly envy people who can sit and spend so much time on one card, I just don't have the patience!!
I think its all in the matter of taste. Some of the cards I do I adore and they get no comments and I wonder why. I'm thinking I might have to start a blog and tell people to also post what they don't like about my cards also so if its something I think is cool and its not or so yesterday then someone can point that out to me..........
Just my opinion
Kelley
p.s. by the way beadfreak I love your work. I've actually favorited several of your cards.

This isn't as uncommon as it may seem. ;)
A good friend and I were discussing this very thing a while back: the design we're kinda feeling ho hum about may get rave reviews, and the one we're most proud of gets barely a passing glance.
We just laff about it for the most part, 'cuz darned if we'll ever figure out why that is! *chuckle*

I also think it has a lot to do with the time of day you post your cards. I often post late at night when there aren't many people online. The few times I've posted in the morning my pics have seemed to get a lot more views. I'm not hung up on getting comments, truly I'm not, I'm just curious about this stuff.

I was just in your gallery and I think I am drawn to some that don't have many comments-colorful and very attractive but 4-5 comments. I do know things I've uploaded to a challenge quite often get more views.

i have been pouring over the galleries of several of the people who have replied to this thread and the thing i see in common is the majority of the designs are pretty simple. not a lot of extra 'fluff'...
now i don't think i am able to put it into words. i don't want to offend anyone here! so if i am making ANY sense to anyone- could you... would you elaborate here?!
I notice that too. There have been a few cards that i have done and even thought about not posting but after I did, they were the ones with more comments.....
But I do think it has to do with time of day and day of the week too....sometimes certain cards get missed just because they are not posted at a great time....sad but true.
So it all comes back to stamping because it is what you love to do---the comments or compliments from others is just a bonus.
I totally agree, Cammie. The comments are nice, but definitely not the reason I stamp. What really struck me (and the reason I started this thread), was the ones I slapped together that seemed to be getting a lot of attention. One in particular that I made today for a 5 year old neighbor in about 15 minutes (no kidding!), has 30 comments on it right now. Go figure! To me, it's not very special or unique.

Well said Cammie.
It's all about the creating and hopefully inspiring someone else to create. Comments are just the gravy.

This is what I have been telling myself lately. I am amazed at the "complicated" cards, but they are so not "me" to make. Soooo, I'm trying to find "my" style and have fun in the creative process.

For me, just my opinion. A lot of the techniques are **a lot** of work and it just doesn't make that much difference, I prefer nice simple clean lines (like JulieHRR and Lisalisa).
Art is intended to provoke an emotion from a total stranger. If youve succeeded in this, consider yourself an artist. Paper Shanks Blog. Love me or hate me, you are still talking about me
Katherine, I feel it too. I plan and work, and work some more and the card fizzles. And then I post a card that came easy and possibly even quick and wala...it does well.
I agree with Wenchie that I have to be content with my cards despite the comments or the number of times it's favorited. I figure if even one person can use it for inspiration..that's okay.
My reasons to stamp are not for my glory, anyways, but to encourage others and glorify God.
Keep stampin' Katherine. You help make the gallery a fun, active place to visit.
This is an interesting thread. My cards are pretty basic and I need a new camera so the pictures are not that great. I finally added stuff to my gallery for me (I made a New Year's resolution) and I am thrilled when anyone comments. I think the more time consuming cards are so elaborate that many of us never think we can put that much work into a card so we tell the creator so. But the ones that are a little more "basic" (and certainly my style) we all look at and say I can do that too! Then we try to make one and forget to comment. I did participate in VSN and the others participating definetely make an effort to comment. I try to write comments and do look at new additions to the gallery when I have time. I also think many of us use the gallery when we are in the middle of something--you know the party is today and you do not have a card. So you decide to use a set and come here to see what others have done, but you are so pressed for time that you just do not have time.
After all that I guess I am no help! I am off to write some comments!
Pia
