Always pondering the $$, space, time, etc. that this hobby takes up. Would I do it over again?
Yes.
It's relaxing, fun, frustrating, creative, and gives my mind a place to go to run away from real anxieties!! Plus, I've met some amazing people and am constantly wowed by others' talents.

Yes. In a heartbeat. The only change I would make in my hobby-ing life would be to not give up sewing. Paper crafting just took over and I don't have the time or space to get sewing again.

I'd be a lot quicker to purchase my Big Kick and a lot slower to jump into fads. And I'd do a better job of indexing / keeping track of what I have and where it's stored as soon as I bought it, instead of going back later and trying to make sense of all of it :P

Same thing happened to me. I still love sewing, but time is limited. Paper crafting is more portable, and a lot less expensive. You think paper takes up space? Try 10 large bins of fabric! Not to mention hauling your sewing machine (and serger) to retreats.
I love all kinds of crafting but right now I am really enjoying making cards and playing with mixed media.

Absolutely! The only thing I'd do differently is to get into stamping sooner! I wasted so much money on things like decoupage sheets, that I dropped when I discovered stamping.
I'm a "never say never" work in progress - I told my friend (who was an avid stamper) that I would never make cards - they just take way too long, I don't need all of that "stuff", etc. She convinced me to give it a go and created a monster! I was mulling over the previous comments about not jumping into every fad, etc., but how could we have done it differently? Experimenting with a lot of different things is how we discover/refine our own style. I don't even regret the $$ spent on things that aren't my style - I consider it an education expense, and education is always a valuable thing...

Stamping is my hobby, relaxation and escape all rolled into one.
One thing I would change though would be not to have bought so much scrapping stuff years ago thinking I would scrap life's events.
I have a bin full of wedding pics/papers/embellishments to scrap. I've been married 13 years now and the bin is still sitting there waiting.....
I had a bin going for DS too but thank goodness, my twin sister got the scrapping bug and has been doing his stuff And the best part of that is I don't have to do much journaling because she knows just about everything/everybody in the pics!
I'm donating some of my scrapping/stamping stuff to the local hospital where I have volunteered for 20 years. We have parents in the NICU who make scrapbooks for their babies and we have "art carts" that go around the hospital and offer patients and visitors a chance to make something crafty. We also have a group of patients in physical rehab who make scrapbooks showing all of their wonderful progress they make while recovering. Always fun and rewarding to share things with all of those awesome groups!!

ATM I'm pleading the 5th - I'm just taking a break from making my Christmas cards (after the mega false start with the watercoloring) and have 80 cards that I have marked, scored, stamped, that still need to be colored, masked, stamped, embossed... and yeah, I kinda love doing it except when I am in the middle of it thinking I have lost my mind!!!! :lol:
Absolutely, I love making cards and giving them to people, and making someone feel special. For me it's relaxing and gives me something to do. Over the years my hobby has cost me lots of money, but as I have stamped longer, I have realised I don't need to buy everything I see.
ABSOLUTELY! And I started to write that I wish I had been smarter about it, but I changed my mind even before I read Sue's post - because I agree: it's been a valuable education.
And to be able to do something I'm so passionate about? Priceless.

I have always loved cards and had always done some kind of crafting. But if I had it to do over I would have started card making 20-30 years sooner. What do they say (maybe not exactly) but so many cards, so little time.:p

Yes! Wish I had found stamping and card making sooner! I love that I can be creative and then give it away! I never expected to be this obbessed with a hobby!!! I think about card making ALL the time! Darn work gets in the way of stamping!
I would do it all over again. However, when I first started out and went to stamp conventions I bought pretty much everything. If I could have a do over I would be more discretionary with my purchases. Alas, live and learn is part of life isn't?
Yes I love it so much. It is such a wonderful hobby. I wish I had more time to stamp but with a family and working full time I don't get to stamp as much as I'd like to. I send card to Operation Write Home and I love that I can do something for our troops and their families. I know first hand how great it is to receive mail from a deployed loved one and am blessed that I can return the favor.

I would stamp differently. I got shy and let myself be pushed into stamping that was not comfortable to me. Now, I have the confidence to say I don't stamp like most people and that's ok. I am uniquely me. I would not change that for the world. I am my own style.
Great thread! I scrapbook and make cards, both are hobbies not a business. I do not regret getting into both, even though my husband would say otherwise due to the amount of money I've poured into them. Not only is it my therapy, like for so many on here, but the amount of wonderful people that I have met because of my hobbies has been awesome!
Stamping is always there when I need it. Sometimes it is frustrating, often the rewards come when least expected. The ability to take paper and color and turn them into something satisfying is worth all the scrap in the recycle bin.

I have always loved paper. Wrapping paper, handmade papers, quilling strips, and especially shiny stuff. I had to be dragged to my first SU camp and I walked out with an $87.00 receipt, :-) I also wish I'd been more selective.
Yes, I would. I started when I was going through a divorce, and it provided calming therapy. Later it has served as a friendly social outlet as well as a creative outlet.
Yes! I scrapbooked for over a decade, but scrapbooks take up a lot of space to store/display. Cards - I can "get rid" of them as fast as I make 'em. And I find it liberating not to have to deal with photos in my paper play.
Oh yes! I didn't even have to think twice! I love so much about cardmaking and still get excited about it.
Starting off with a blank canvas and creating something especially for the recipient in mind is very satisfying. And even when I make a bunch of similar cards for Christmas not for any particular person in mind, I still feel very satisfied. Cardmaking soothes my weary soul and takes my mind away from life's stresses and challenges - and even when I am not actually making a card, I am thinking about cardmaking
I don't regret buying anything because it is part of my journey. Sure, sometimes I'lll look at something I bought ages ago and haven't used but I have done that for every crafty hobby, not just cardmaking. I just either sell it or donate it and move on.

Absolutely, I totally agree! Although I'd surely have more money in the bank, some things you just can't put a price tag on. Stamping saved me! I needed a hobby to help with anxiety, depression, to take my mind off work, & to preserve what little sanity I had left! I can't think of any other hobby where you'd find so many talented, helping, & caring people. Crafters are the best!!!
The only regret I have about this craft is that I didn't do enough of it for a longer period of time!! I will definitely never regret this paper crafting thing!!!
Card making has been a passion for me for over 20 years. I get such joy from creating a card that I hope will brighten the recipient's day. The lovely friends I've made on Splitcoaststampers has been the icing on the cake!
