Question Ideas for throwing an 80th birthday party??

I am just beginning to plan an 80th birthday party for my Dad whose birthday is in April. I am trying to find cute, easy and cheap ideas which I could do.
I am doing a display of what life was like in 1932. I am printing his invitations on vellum and then attaching it to cardstock....

I am wondering about some kind of favour which I could make.

Do you have any suggestions, learning experiences etc that you could offer me about planning and throwing a party?

My Dad is not an "old" 80...he is very active and young at heart. I have the music booked and we have decided to have a potluck as the meal.

The colours will be burgundy and silver.

That's about as far as I am right now... all help will be appreciated. I want this to be a super event something good for a change!!!

Thanks in advance!!!

For my MIL 70th BD I made luminairs for the tables. Stamped on Vellum and and added paper to the top and bottom and used a battery operated candle. They turned out very pretty. Also check out the Perfect Match box project. They are addorable and would be great with a boyhood photo of your dad and decorated "vintage style" for favours. We also did a photo board of pictures throughout the years that went over very well with the MIL and all the guest!! And it was alot of fun doing this for her!

I have a friend who threw an 80th birthday party for her Mom. As a surprise, she asked each one of the guests (since she planned early like you are) to send her a story about an experience each guest had shared with her mom, a favorite memory, something she'd taught them etc., had them include a photo of each person with her Mom and put them together into a scrapbook. Her mom absolutely loved it! I don't know if your Dad would enjoy something like that, too.

A couple of my friends just had a baby shower for one of our daughters. As the centerpiece at each table - they went to dollar tree and bought some cheap candle holders, filled with bottom with pebbles, also from $ tree and stuck a candle in each one. They surrounded the holders on the table with ribbon curls made from $ tree ribbon.

Have you ever heard of a company called Vermont Country Store? You can find them online. They sell all kinds of things that were popular "back in the day" i.e. Clove Gum, Slo-Pokes, etc. Maybe you could find on old-time candy on there that your Dad might have enjoyed as a kid and use those for favors.

Good luck and what an awesome gift to your Dad!!!!!

I remember my great-grandma's 80th B-day Party. They made a huge paper tree and then stuck pictures of all her kids and grandkids on it for a family tree. My mom and my aunt sat and compiled a book of all of grandma's stories and had it printed and bound at Kinko's for each family. (I think it's FedEx Kinko's now). Then of course the big family picture with a bunch of cousins I know nothing about, lol.

for my brother's 40th, I made a book and had guests share funny stories about him... it was a big hit.

Smile Favours for 80th birthday party!

I decided to make bookmarks, peppermit patty favours and magnets for the guests for my Dad's 80th party. I also used the stamp set "Loved Ones" in the Occasions Mini to make name tags for the immediate family.
Here are some pictures...

Everything looks wonderful! You did a great job on the cake and everyone will like those party favors too! Thanks for posting and sharing with all of us, it's fun to see others "take" on the same idea. Oh by the way, my hubby's birthday is the same day but he will only be 62.

You did a wonderful job on the cake! Love that you filled it with kisses.
What did you use for the tiers? Could you please give me a quick list of what you used to make your layers?
I like all of your favors too. Your dad will love this.
Thanks for sharing and have a great party.

The only thing you have to be careful with on this is that the kids don't get ahold of the camera, I've seen too many kids a wedding receptions get them and just take pictures of stupid stuff.

For my grandmother's 90th we made 12x12 scrapbook pages, 1 for each decade. We put photos of her with friends and family on each, important dates, quotes and prices of common items (gallon of gas, loaf of bread). We used the pages as part of the center pieces on the tables. The guests had a great time looking at them, reminiscing and after the brunch circulated among the tables to see each page.

After the event we put them together in a book for her to take home.

My grands were 6, 4, 4, and a lap warmer then and they got the best pictures of folks!! A few were blurry but most were good ones.. They wanted to know after who the cousins were.. lol We gave the three of them their own camera for the day and said not totake anyone else's and they were good with that. A few cousins gave them the cameras to return to us when they were full
