I would like to get some dies....but I dont know which ones. I am talking about the stitched kind..I like the double ones over at MFT....
But there are pierced ones,
stitched ones
now there is cross stitched ones....and I dont know what else when you look at all the companies.
I like the ones with two lines of stitching on the die cut...I also like the ones that stitch the die cut and the negative but I can only afford so much.
sigh.
I am going to go with either double line pierced (dots) or stitched. (short lines)
I cant decide. I see a lot of people here using them and hope to get opinions.
I thought the pierced might be interesting because I really could run thread if I wanted to...but I am thinking I dont think I would om reality.
Do you know of any down sides to either one? Any opinions in general? The sets are not cheap. I need to be careful.
the simon says stamped stitched ones are slightly larger than the MFT stitched ones. ( but in the MFT stitched ones I have just the single stitching not doubles)
so, I am thinking take a good look at your stamps and see if there is something you have that you really want to fit inside one of those dies ( in your head ) and get the set that your stamps will work better with.
I get really cool ideas sometimes looking in the gallery and then when it arrives I am like shocked at how small the die is because, ( I make larger cards for the most part) and I think when something comes out (new) the only time I really see it used is by a DT member who is using say just that companies items with it and they are all made to work together. kwim? ( I am thinking of a totally different die I just got in the last month that I drooled over for months before I caved and ordered it, and never once in all that time did I look at how big the dies were)
ETA the pierced fishtail dies I have from MFT just have tiny pin pricks into the cardstock when they cut, they are not totally pierced that you could run a stitch through them unless you are talking real thread with a sharp needle. ( not say just poking regular cord through)
I do hear what you mean Stacy and that is a big point I had not considered! I will go look at my stamps and see their sizes!
That's why I made myself a gridded A2 postcard so I can gauge how big something will be b/c I made a few of those mistakes myself! It was for stamps but it all works.
That's good to know about the pierced not really being fully pierced too. I just took a big step more towards stitched. I have the piercing tool already-I could make a run that I can thread if I want to. hmmm
Exactly the kind of info I need! Thank you!
Lydia did you get all the shapes? What did you start with if not? I am thinking to start with rectangle and oval because those are more of the traditional frame shape to me?
So I need to compare MFT and SSS. Any other brands?
I have a thing for stitched dies....I have allnthe Lil Inkers, MFT and even a few other companies. Inreally love the new stitched Main Street tags at Poppy and havd already used them quite a bit. If it is stitched I probably have it. Im a bit surprised I have not seen any stitched pumpkins yet....
I bought the SSS double stitched circles and use them a LOT. Then I bought L'il Inker double stitched rectangles and use them a LOT. Then I bought SSS double stitched squares and found I use them less, just because I don't use squares a lot. They all work wonderfully! I also have MFT Blueprints 13 (I think) that cuts a rectangle 4 x 5 1/4 with stitching inside (along with other dies in the pack) and use it a LOT. I have found that I use some kind of die on almost every card I make.

Wow...Lil Inker has a lot of great stitch dies! I also want to get some to make a quilted look and they have a great selection for that! Thank you-made a note in my wishlist!!
I knew the stitch look had really taken off but did not realize how much-it really is all over with all kinds of images now.
I have stitched snowflakes from lawn fawn and some of their stitched dies too. ( actually I have a lot of dies ) but, as far as quality goes, I have a suspicion that a lot of those companies are having their dies made in the same factory. ( I do not have quality issues with any of my stitched dies)
I don't know if anyone has mentioned these ones yet, but I got them and love them. AND they're 40% off at Joann.com. I got them in squares, rectangles, ovals and circles. There are separate dies for the pierced part and the solid (if that makes sense). You can't beat the price.
I also got the MFT Die-namics pierced dies. I still want some stitched dies, so I'm happy to see all sorts of options mentioned. Will have to check them out.

I just got the circles to start with - I'm such a boring cardmaker - circles are super exciting for my normal layout hahah.
I have Lawn Fawn stitched rectangles and stitched ovals -- both sets. I also have some MFT stitched dies -- ovals, hearts and rounded rectangles and I think tags. I like the Lawn Fawn sets.
Oooh, the Lawn Fawn ones are next on my wish list.
P.S.: I was so proud of myself - when I ordered my MFT ones I ordered from Amazon, and actually remembered to go on Amazon through the link in Lydia's signature line so the volunteers could get credit. I haven't been using Amazon very long, so it's hard to remember to do that.
You laugh, but it's kind of terrible. I'm not even going to tell you how much I spent today, all because I stumbled across this thread and was reminded of how much I wanted those stitched dies. Because, of course, you just CAN'T pass up something that's at the top of your wish list, and 40% off, right???

Oh, I hear ya, believe me. I am trying to tell myself to be on a spending fast (except for brick embossing folders!) but then SU goes and has a fantastic holiday catty. So far, I have not ordered. And I have bought square stitched dies from Memory Box a little while ago. Oh, I feel I am hopeless and it seems out of hand. I mean all the excess. I have bought so much over the years and have not played with a lot of it yet. But then that subject is for another thread.
I went through exactly what you are going through. And it took me a few months to decide what to purchase.
I ended up buying the Avery Elle Finished Frames dies. It has the stitched look. I chose this because out of the ones I was considering the largest die is sized at 4 x 5 . The perfect size for that first layer on an A2 card. Many of the other sets I was wanting didn't have one that size.
It only has two dies that are "frames"; the rest are a bunch of miscellaneous little shapes like hearts, bows, stars, diamonds, and squares. Teeny tiny ones!! Have not been inspired to use these tiny shapes so far. I think they would make great confetti if cut in colorful, shiny papers for shaker cards...but I don't feel inclined to make shaker cards!
I don't think you can go wrong with the quality for any of the companies mentioned here. For me, the deciding factor was the 4 x 5 size. I really wanted that layer. And of course, I still want some of the other sets I considered because they are just so darn cute!!
The double stitching is not close together. I cant find another company with this type of stitch look so I am thinking MFT is it. I checked all of yours and a big bunch of other speciality die companies and no luck. (though I saw more that I wanted oy lol)
That link didn't work, but I searched the Frames. These are different from double stitched rectangles (the kind that cut stitching both inside and outside the solid-cut line), that I thought you were interested in. They are VERY CUTE!!
Don't know if it helps or not, but these are a couple looks you can get with the Spellbinders set. The 6 dies consist of 3 that just pierce, and 3 that cut out the rectangle. They're no longer on sale, but they do go on safe fairly often at Joann.com
That's odd Harvestmoon, I tested and it worked and I just did it again and it worked. Weird. Thank you for taking the time to look them up.
I didnt know when I first posted there was such a thing as a double line of stitches on a die. I knew about the inside/out of the cut line but there is also a true double line!
I like them as both a stitched look and a frame...I am thinking I may use them on the thin leather sheets spellbinders sells. Wont lie, only 3 pcs in the set is a bigger ouch but I understand why that is.
Like most things lol, I saw them here in the gallery!
I just have to wait for a special or something. I missed the boat-there was one last weekend. Have to hope another comes soon or I just bite the bullet.
LOL Pam. I have done that-taken something new out just to show someone that I havent even used yet! Well, while they are out-use 'em!

I will reward myself with them when I use at least half of the ... not gonna say how many... sets I've bought over the last few weeks. I'll use them, since I'm determined to mail off some cards for this month's "cards for a cause". It's for an organization focused on animal welfare. It will give me a reason to use all those Phyllis Harris sets with the beautiful dog. Link in case you're wondering what I'm babbling about -
I was surprised recently when I was strolling through the Silhouette Store. They have a bunch of cut files with stitches on them now. Cross stitches, double framed stitches, etc. Has anyone ever purchased one of those stitch files to try it out?
I saw a vid someone here linked to about the comparison of stitched dies vs cut stitch...
What I got out of it was dies emboss and give you the slightly rounded edge whereas cut files literally cut the stitch so it's like a tiny slit and no rounding of the paper edge.
I dont know if that will help. I can try to find the vid.
I tried both approaches and replied on a couple of threads regarding this issue.
I was just wondering if anyone had purchased a Sil Store stitched cut file and it if was any better than what we have been creating on our own. I'm wondering if they had solved the "just a simple slit in the paper that can't be seen" issue that most of us have when trying to do the stitched look on a frame in our Cameos.
One thing occurred to me a while ago. I used to be really big into quilting/sewing. Before cards took over my life... I had a pattern tracer wheel that might create the stitched look on paper. Anyone know the tool I'm talking about? I don't know where mine is (haven't traced a pattern in ages), but it would be a much less expensive alternative to the framed dies.
