Default I cant' help it, I gotta ask

All the cards with LARGE bows on them.... how do people mail them

I use bows occasionally, but they are small. I guess I'm just not much of a bow person, but they are very popular, so I'm curious.

I don't know. . . but I am going to amend my cardmaking habits - I just had to spend $1.95 each for 5 Easter bunny cards that I sent - $1.95 each - can you believe it? So no big bows for me.

I wonder about that, too. Maybe they cushion the bow part with tissue paper and use a bubble mailer?

I have a feeling that many of those cards with the big fluffy bows never make it out of the house - unless they are hand carried.

You are right! My cards with big bows are either on packages that are hand delivered or are in packages that I mail with a present so there is plenty of room without totally smooshing the bow. Like Cathy, I learned quickly to watch what I send thru the mail in an envelope!

Some ribbon smooshes and fluffs back better than others. I think Becca - Amazing Paper Grace- uses silk ribbon because of that quality.

a friend of mine told me that the card i made for her arrived with the bow ruined. I don't mind that she told me; in fact I was glad.

Ever since then, I rarely tie bows on my cards (was never good at it!) and if I do, I put them in a larger envelope and hand deliver.

but they are gorgeous to look at!

Aha and a gorgeous card with a big bow could BE the bow on a package with plain color or small print paper. I'll remember that.

I make custom envelo-boxes for my large and heavily embellished cards. I use the Crafter's Companion tool to help me easily and quickly do them.
I've also used those clear boxes that PTI's stamp sets come in to mail cards as well, I just print a label and slap it on the box and mail it.

One well-known blogger (can't remember which one now, but she's on several design teams), stated in a post that she stuffs the "loops" of the bows with tissue when she mails them, with instructions to the recipient to remove it. The card itself is mailed in a bubble envelope.

If I'm mailing several cards at once like for Easter, Christmas, invitations or something I will make my cards flatter so that they will not require the extra postage. I don't mind paying the extra postage once and a while and sometimes I'll hand deliver them (if I can). I rarely use big bows on my cards. It's just too expensive to mail them in a bubble mailer and I don't have time to try and make larger envelopes.

I use those Clear Boxes to mail my cards with big bows. It costs about one dollar and it is a fun way to send the cards! Clear Card Box 4-1/2" x 1" x 5-7/8"

I have boxed mine also... but considering putting tissue paper into the clear boxes...

and or I hand deliver those, or they are sold in a card booth and the people are instructed to hand deliver or pack them inside a package. ( when its so lumpy I have to "box" it I dont even put a paper envelope inside the box with it so they are not tempted to destroy the card trying to cram it into an envelope)

Glad to see all the advice! I don't usually mail my "bigger creations" but I'm getting ready to mail one I made for the Teapot challenge that is quite layered and had a knotted organdy ribbon. I love the look of the big bows, but can't seem to make it work for me...I used a piece of the wide ribbon as a strip yesterday and found that worked much better for me though I love to see the bows on others' cards.

How much do you pay for sending them in the clear box?

I prefer using ribbon as a strip too. I don't know, sometimes I think big bows kind of detract from the artwork on the card.

I DO LOVE the idea of using a bow on a card and attaching it to the outside of a present! What a great idea, and I can't believe I never thought of it.
