Any tips/ideas on pitching a stamp set idea to a company? I have something sketched (I use that term very loosely, lol) out on paper, and would love to see if anyone would make it. So what is the best way to approach a company? Any tips from you pros out there would be greatly appreciated!
I can't draw to save my life which is why I stamp. So I have no experience with submitting drawings to a company for consideration in having them made into rubber stamps. BUT... I do know something about submitting works for publication. Years ago, before I got into papercrafts, I was a professional quilter and I wrote for several quilt magazines. I had read some books on submitting freelance work and here are two suggestions I think would relate to your situation.
First, don't just submit to any stamp company that you can think of. Find your niche. If you make cute, whimsical animal images, don't submit them to a company that produces vintage, collage style stuff. Seems like a no-brainer but that's what the books said was beginning writer's biggest problem was.
Second, only submit to one company at a time. It's tempting to send your stuff out to anyone who will look at it, but what if more than one likes your stuff? They can't both publish it and you don't want to get into a situation where you have to choose because they both might drop you. So be courteous and send to one company at a time. Ask them for a decision deadline by a certain date (give them at least 3 weeks). Then if they don't respond or respond negatively, move to the next company.
You might also want to consider trying out for design teams and if you get on one, contact them and ask them to look at your work for future consideration.
Becky, I haven't done what you're talking about, but I've thought about it. Basically I would find a company that carries stamps that fit with your image, and email the owner to see if they would be interested. If they pass, you can move on to another. Gina K, MFT, and Stamping Bella have all taken on new artists in the last year...just to name a few. Go for it!

Becky, I don't quite know if you are asking how to submit your own artwork to a company, or if you have an idea that you think would be good but someone else would have to do the actual artwork?

It's kinda a little of both. I have the idea on paper, but I like a certain company's font.
If you have a particular company in mind, I would email them without sharing the actual idea and ask if the company has a protocol for submitting ideas.
