How much does "retiring," "going out of biz," etc, influence your purchasing?
I have to admit, that if something is retiring, like SU stamps, or going out of business entirely like Luminarte's Twinkling H2O's, or even the bubble bin at MFT stamps; it totally makes me spend.
There's a certain horror that comes from missing an opportunity and I don't want to miss something. If it's only available NOW, and I like it or love it, it's coming home with me.
Anyone else?

If something on my wishlist or an item I love to use is retiring or going out of business it gets a priority in my spending. But if was waaaaay down on the bottom of my list then its new status probably has no effect on my spending.
Many times I don't get an SU set until it's retiring because my list is always being adjusted for new sets and I try to order them in the order I would need them (i.e. Halloween before Christmas) so sometimes lesser-desired stamps get ordered before others. Then, when I find out it's retiring it gets ordered!

I hardly every buy retiring SU because my budget is so tight but I have gotten a few on e-bay after retirement but I'm a "tight" e-bay shopper too. Never bid too high or past my budget and I won't pay high shipping...past $5.00. Right now I would buy the SU double side bigger stamp with the grass on one side and cone flower on the other. Can't remember it's name but it's on the dormant list and if it goes on to the retiring list I'll get it right away. I'm just not letting that one go.
I used to be bad for that...Mostly Clearance, sale, and Coupon! Now...money's tighter, and I don't get things just to get them. I make a decision on...how often will I use it, is it a good deal for my buck, is it versatile? If I can say yes to all three, I will get it! If I'm looking at a catalog. I look through 3 times over a week or two. The things that keep popping out at me are the one's I write down on my wish list and will get over time.
It depends. If it was a stamp set/image that I have been eyeing but not buying, I will buy it. I did jump on the h2o's and ended up placing three orders just to fill my collection with all of the colors. But I honestly love the product and did so because I don't know if there is anything similar that I will get. There have been other things that I just put in the shopping cart and then decided to wait and never went back for them and honestly, don't miss that I don't have them. I also think it depends on how long you have been in this hobby, or any hobby for that matter. You get a better sense of what you will use as time goes by.
No, it doesn't affect me. Even sales rarely sway me. I find that they are all budget busters.
That is how I respond as well. I am not an impulse buyer and have to have wanted the item really badly in the first place.
I have to say that for those of you who are swayed by the 'threat' of never seeing it again, that they have succeeded in their marketing scheme. And that in itself makes by blood pressure rise!

When I 1st started stamping and only bought SU! stamps the retiring list got me...well for about 2 years and then I realized I didnt want "old" stamps I wanted the latest and greatest stamps.
So now retiring does the opposite for me and makes me not spend since there will most likely always be something better, newer, bigger to be released.
I'm completely with Jimmi on this one. I used to feel the need to get something before it vanished but then retired items sat around and unused in my house. There will always be something new and exciting to get so I've been saving my money for those things.

I don't care at all if a stamp is retiring- if I don't already have it, I probably didn't want it that much.
I sometimes stock up on papers that are being discontinued if I really like them and have found a lot of use for them- an example is the Cherish paper from Creative Memories 2 years ago. It was a limited release and when I was able to get more from my rep I jumped on it.
I definitely stocked up on H2Os! They are my favorite method of coloring and I want to be able to play with them for years, so I bought all the ones I still needed to complete my collection.
I actually have cooled off on SU! for the past two years BECAUSE of that! I don't like the retiring stuff! I hate to really like something and then not be able to get it again, I don't know why. I went from spending about $1200 a year on SU! to spending about $20 a year. Maybe I just got tired of SU! Also it makes it so hard to keep track of everything if you are submitting for publication, and I rarely use my old stamps anyway.
I don't mind MFT retiring a set after two years, but every six months-no way!
I actually kind of avoid supplies that are retiring unless I absolutely love them because I won't be able to replenish them or match them as easily. Also I've learned that as surely as something I like retires, something new that I like will come out!
When I'm making a purchase of a current product I think of that too - it actually disuades me from buying if I think it will have a short product life before it retires.
It depends on what it is - there are stamps that I want but they keep falling off my have to have list so when they hit the reitred list I decide if I still really want it, I'll get it.
Once a month I search the net for going out of business sales. I've gotten some amazing bargins but I'm very selective about what I get because there are no returns.
Some item I don't buy more of if I can't continue with the "collection". Luckily with H2Os I have all I wanted and they will last me a long time so I didn't have to buy more.
