Wondering about this too!!! I read an article in Creating Keepsakes a couple years ago about how to "stitch" the scans together but I didn't understand it.

You'll need to scan it in two pieces. This article has a good explanation of how to "stitch" the scans together.

It took several tries, but I was finally able to do it!

my printer came with a program called PhotoStitch. I scan the page in 2 sections and "stitch" them together in the program. Works great!!

Whatever softwear that came with your scaner probably has a stitching tool... I do mine in Photoshop. I scan 1/2 at a time and overlay one matching the "seams".
If you can't figure it out, I'd be glad to do it for you. You can PM me and I'll stitch them for you and send them back...

But with the hinges of the lid in the way wouldn't you have to scan one side up right and one side up side down? Does the stitching put them together the right way?

I dont think one would scan upside down and one right side up. If you have the page, flip it over, and scan the right side and then move over and scan the left side. Does that make sense?
And even if it did, you can always go in the software, and tell it to rotate it.
But on mine i scanned it like I said above.
Just half at a time, then move the page over, and scan.

In order to completely scan a 12x12 page on a 8.5x11 scanner you need to scan it 4 times (top right, bottom right, top left, bottom left). However, many people just scan 11 inches of the page if the top and/or bottom don't matter.
To answer the hinge question, on mine that is not an issue. My hinges are at the back of the 8.5 side. I move the page back and forth (left and right) to scan the two sides.
Another good scanning tip is to scan your layout at 150 dpi and set it to scan at 50% so the file isn't so huge when you share it.
HTH,
Anita

I don't have to scan 4 times.. I do the top and then the bottom. My program allows me to rotate my pictures when I scan them upside down so it all works out.
