Well, it is snowing like crazy here in Maine this am, so of course I am thinking about going somewhere warm....
My best friend and I are joining SU as demos in Feb after being long time buyes...we are dreaming of one day attending those fabulous conventions and cruises that our current demo is always talking about.
How does that work??? Do you pay out of pocket? Can you earn them??? Help me get warm during this Maine nor'easter!!!
I know that I could call our current demo...but who wants to be woken up this early on Sun??? If there is some kind person out there who can give me the info, it is much appreciated!!!
Thanks!!

(You know who I'm talkin' to!)
The cruise is earned based on your sales and your (and your downline)promotions. Top levels can also earn part or all of the registration fees to convention...maybe even some get it fully paid for. The people who earn these fees paid are selling a LOT and have large, promoting downlines. Most of us don't earn event registration free. We pay out of pocket. Cruise earners are also a small percentage of demonstrators. It can be earned by sales alone, or your promotions reduce the amount of sales you need.

I earned a couple of cruises when I was a Stampin' Up Demonstrator. They were absolutely fabulous!!
I really had to plan it out. Learn exactly what you have to do as far as how many recruits you need, how much in sales you need and set up a monthly plan. Each month, adjust your goals to reflect where you are and where you need to be.
It can be done but it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Do lots of classes if you can and you can do some that would included a bunch of product. For example:
Offer a class that shows 5 different projects out of one stamp set. When they take the class, they get the stamp set, two types of embellishment and a pack of designer paper that they need in order to make all the projects. Add it all up and charge a little more for the extra card stock and other supplies. The class might end up costing $40.00 but look at all they get to keep! If you end up with 10 people taking the class, you had $400.00 in sales, free hostess stuff that you can keep or give away as a doorprize, other free stuff that can replace the items you used for the class. Plus, you get the commission on the $400.00 in sales to put away as spending money for the cruise.
Does that make sense? You have to sell to sail, so figure out how may events you would need and how many would need to attend and set it up.
Good luck and happy sailing!!
Hugs,
Gina K.

Welcome to the SU family! I was hoping to go to the 20th anniversary SU convetion, but I probably won't be able to afford it. And, Gina has gave great advice about earning cruise.
Hi All,
I'm the best friend part of khorton's original post.
So, if we have to sell to sail, are the figures outlined somewhere for us to see? What exactly have khorton and I getting ourselves into? A boat load of trouble w/ our husbands I expect. ;)
But really, are the figures available or is that something we'll have to wait and see when we sign-up during sale-a-bration?
Side note: SCS's has the best, friendliest and knowledgeable people I've encountered in a forum. Thanks everybuddy!!
Once you are a demo you can check it out, but as Gina said, it is quite a bit of work and focus to get on the cruise. Any demo can sign up for convention but be prepared to spend at least $1000 to attend especially since you will have to fly to Utah. Then you have several nights in a hotel as well as the admission fee which I believe was $250 last year. I have never attended as I'm a hobby demo and could never justify the cost.
Once you are a demo, you will have access to the figures needed to earn cruise.
Convention is open to ALL active demos. I went in 2006 and LOVED it! I am going this year as well, as it is the 20th anniversary and will be a BLAST! Here is what I spent for Convention:
Convention fee (297.00 CDN)
Flight (free as i used my air miles)
Hotel (140.00 for the full 5 nights, as I shared a room with 3 others and cost was split 4 ways).
Food (I averaged about 20.00 a day, this includes water-lunch is provided by SU...most suppers i had were 9.95 or less)
Non-SU activities (this was also my vacation, so I made sure i did stuff! LOL! I think I spent about 65.00 on these, incl. one cab fare to the zoo)
The AWESOME thing with Salt Lake City...you buy a bus/TRAX ticket for 4.00 and it's good for the WHOLE day!
Oh, yes! I forgot. The conventions are awesome. They are so energy packed and they have fabulous speakers and entertainment. Plus, it's fun to swap cards and mix and mingle with other demonstrators. It's really worth the money. It always got me so pumped up for my business again.
Good luck- oh and when I was a demo, if someone wanted to know the figures about earning the cruise, I would have shared that with them so maybe you should ask your demo so you can start planning now.
Hugs,
Gina K.

If you want to earn the trip (this year we can earn a trip to Hawaii--not a cruise) on sales alone, you have to have $40,000 in sales from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. If you sign up in February, you would only have from that date to June 30 to earn this years trip (I'm sure other demos have done this so I am in no way discouraging you). The other ways decrease sales, but then you have to have downline promotion. You will get that info from your upline and it is all very well explained on the demo side of the SU website.
Good Luck to you both--I hope to see you in Hawaii!! (my goal is to earn the trip too)
I would suggest that one of you sign up under your current demo and your friend sign up under you. I'm not sure how you would decide which one of you would sign up first, but you would have your first recruit and a promotion.
I just earned the cruise this past year and what it takes is consistency in your business. I did it through sales and downline promotions and as Gina said you need to figure out which way you want to earn it and then break it down into monthly goals and then reevaluate those goals- every month- to make sure you are on track.
the consistency parts comes in doing workshops and classes, calling your customers to stay in touch with them, and informing them of company specials.
I didn't give discounts unless it was something special and I didn't give away the store to get people to book a workshop. i encouraged my downline with their promotions and did give them some incentives.
This year I am on track to make the trip with my sales- but I am still encouraging my downline to promote and share Stampin' Up! with everyone.
Just for your info I have been a demo for 11 years and this was the first year i earned the cruise- I considered myself a hobby demo before last year and thought there was no way I could do that! Anyone can earn the trip if you set a goal and then work toward that goal!
good luck with your businesses- you will have a blast doing it together!

Gina, have we met before?? I've earned a few of these cruises myself and attended 6 Conventions. My favorite cruise was, hands down, the Hawaiian cruise!! My DH and I had such a marvelous time!
To the OP.... Yes, there are great benefits and awards to being a demo but honestly the average demo doesn't earn any of the big stuff. I worked so super hard as a demo and was able to squeeze by on many incentive trips but there is a price to pay............. TIME! I believe that they had lots of openings last year on the SU cruise and they were letting demos buy extra tickets. That might be a more doable way to go on a SU cruise. I had a very large downline and only ever had 3 of my downline earn the cruise. Out of 40,000 demos usually only 300 earn it.
