Acrylic paint or permanent ink would work. Permanent ink markers would be a blast to use to doodle all over it! Maybe just me, but I would think using a spray sealer (at least on the pistol grip) when done will prevent the design from rubbing off.
I saw one of these altered on UKScrappers and it was fab. She had masked off the moving parts and then spray painted it with a metalic finish craft paint. Then she added flowers and bling.
I'm interested to see what other posts advise as I would like to have a go at mine too!
What I'm thinking of doing is putting something with Winnie the Pooh on it but I don't know how to go about it. I do have some stamps with Pooh. I was wondering if stickers would be ok or would they just come right back off.
I don't want to mess up my ATG.
Thanks
Pam
UPNSEAMS said I spray painted both of mine. One with Krylon and the other with Rust Olem
And the I sparyed glittler krylon over them after they were dry. But I can tell you when I sparyed the glitter over the rustolem it looked crackled. But it turned out ok. I will try to figure out how to put pix. So you can see.
I put rub on's and stickers and things on them. Then I put 3 coats of clear laquer over them to seal them for life.
Also found another picture of an altered ATG - it seems as though laquering over the top may seal those stickers/rub ons in.
I used the Krylon Fusion paint that's meant to be for plastic on mine. It's been less than a year, and it's already scratching off. No idea how they sell that paint to clean up kids outdoor playhouses, because it's not at all durable IMO.
It might have held up better if I'd put a sealer on top, but I wasn't sure how compatible the plastic paint would be with the sealer and I didn't want to wreck it. Plus I thought paying more $ for the the Fusion paint would give me more durability. Not so much.
Alcohol inks are a cool idea, but you'd have to pretty much only use the darker tones to cover over the red.
I've seen some people who used rub-ons with good results.
Thanks everyone for your help. Have any of you tried sanding your ATG before you paint it? I was wondering if that might help the paint to stick better.
