I think steampunk will still be hot. Also retro and of course birds ( which I happen to LOVE). I think "designs" will be hot as well. I too, think altered items will be bigger and we will see more artisitc things ( think canvas...different painting mediums) . I *think* this may be a year for techniques to rise. And , with the rise in popularity of coloring mediums...I think we will see more line images to promote those materials. I personally chose my stamps for that very reason ; to color them.
Not ....I really don't know. I am not that great at prediciting trends.. I am usually kinda behind the times and I like what I like even if others don't.....I do have a few things I wish would go away .LOL...
RiverIsis I am with you on that one and tonight I am ready to shove half of my stash out the door......ugh no room!! Which half I would get rid of is the hardest part!! LOL
What is going to be hot for me is and always dp!!
What is not so hot for me (I have no room and no one to give it too) is big alterable items, like those shaped albums, books, frames......
I hope Steampunk and female Victorian will continue to be hot, because I enjoy both styles and haven't had much of a chance to try either yet. I'd especially like to see more tasteful Victorian boudoir stamps. I think flowers, butterflies, birds and coffee cups are here to stay. And I don't mind because I like them all.
I hope mustaches (male Victorian?) quickly become a NOT. I think we'll see fewer cupcakes and fewer of those cherub kids, even though I like both.
Die cuts (Spellbinders, etc.) will become even more popular. Small-size paper pads (6x6, 4x6, etc.) will be used more because the designs are scaled for cards. At least this is what I'll be using! Hard to know about the rest of the stamping world!

I'm with you on those! I love my Spellbinders and 6x6 and 8x8 paper..my collections of both are rapidly growing!
I never understood mustaches (pertaining to paper crafting) ...but I kinda like steampunk. I haven't explored that style yet,so I hope it sticks around. I think banners will still be hot. Seam binding ribbon, coloring with Copics or the like.
I really don't know what won't be hot..maybe not the Cricut so much? I dunno.
I think art journaling is going to continue to gain popularity, although it isn't my thing. I also think texture and texturing products will be popular in the stamping/card-making, as well as scrapbooking, world. Die-cut machines, both manual and electric, will continue to hit the market, particularly those that cut digital images via the computer.
I see sewing taking a backseat (thankfully) to these trends, and those huge bows will probably (again, thankfully) fade away. I think chipboard will be less popular, as it gives way to simple die-cut cardstock.
I'm no expert in predicting these things, but that's how I see the trends moving.
Given the continuing economic woes I think rediscovering our stash will be hot.

Hopefully this is going to work for me. I made all my Christmas cards this year without buying anything (except for the one stamp I bought after I had made them all).
HOT=DIES alll kinds of dies...
NOT: hmmm...this one is harder..Maybe 12 x 12 paper pads...doesnt everyone have enough..or more than enough...my place is bursing.
Some catagory that we haven't had yet. I am tired of cupcakes and owls. I do think birds and nature will continue to be popular.
Anyone remember the line PSX that had the botanical flowers which were big line stamps? You could really watercolor those beautifully. I would like to see more of that type return. They also did birds like that. I still have a few of each that I have been holding onto for years.
The sad thing is even last year we were asking for PSX style flowers and birds to color and all we got were more cupcakes and kindergarten line drawings. :(

Out: Ribbon and bows on cards. Kids with big mis-shaped heads and no mouth.
In: (continued - vintage/sewing theme/birds/butterflies/collage). Recycling and like stated above: use up that stash! My New Year's goal last year was to use up all my stash by Christmas and I didn't do it. So I'll try again in 2012.
Well, it seems that every stamp manufacturer under the sun has a typewriter set. So I'm guessing that some other vintage-looking appliance will become big in 2012.

Laundry washboards? A sink full of soapy dishes pre-dishwasher days? brooms and dustpans! :p:rolleyes:
So I am so behind the times, seriously? What is Steampunk, and Cameo... where have I been?:(
Me too! Off to scour the gallery for steampunk.
I hope cute is out - animals, cupcakes, owls and kids.
I hope pretty and romantic becomes hot.
I think retro could be hot, vintage not? going out on a big limb there.
I hope there is an alternative to bows on cards...... not big, not little just something else.

What is steampunk?
I see I'm not the only one to ask that question. Can someone post a link?
Steampunk: is the juxtaposition of old-fashioned/western mixed with technology (think Will Smith in Wild, Wild West)
Hot: Burlap, twine, glimmer mists, distress inks and stains (or is this all stuff that I am into and no one else?? lol)
Not: Umm... Big Huge stamp companies that are known for poor service/high prices/high and or slow shipping. People are holding on to their hard-earned money and are starting to demand superior customer service... as they should!!

I would love for the trend to be different canvas mediums. This is something I love and enjoy doing. That would be my cup of tea.
I agree Steampunk, Victorian, Using our stash will be hot. I would love to see more make do trends and frugal crafting.
Not- No more mustaches. I saw my first DP last night with mustaches. I am traumatized now, lol. No more little kids with missing faces. Poor little things.
Personally I would like to see more Design Teams about design and not used car salesman type ads.

Thank you for the description. I need to keep an eye out for it.
I think dies will be be even bigger in 2012...I'm loving those memory box ones..that'll be a purchase in the coming months. I also think felt will continue to be a trend and sewing themes. I'm loving steampunk so I'm glad that seems to be on trend. I'm sure we'll see more 6X6 paper pads and less of the 12x12 ones. And even with the price of copics going up I still think those will be popular.
Here's my 2 cents:
HOT - dies with matching stamps will grow with more companies going this route.
I also think impression/embossing plates by stamp companies will also be hot. And what I'd love to see this take off next year too -- distressed-looking stamp images
AND I'm also hoping snow globes in the form of stamp and die combos will emerge
NOT - I think 12x12 scrapbooking is fading but slowly - mini albums may take their place. Also stamps on wooden bases.
CAS seems to be trending right now....so I'm thinking that will get even hotter. Awesome stamps that you can color or decide to NOT color! Dies are hot and should/probably will continue to get even hotter.

Not sure what's going to die off though.....
I wonder with the new frugality if monthly releases will die off.
