I was just speaking to a friend who attended the HIA show for trade customers and she commented on how small the stands were for the rubber stamping companies compaired to memorys and paperarts.
What do you think? Do you think Rubber Stamping will ever run its course? I hope not, I certainly hope it runs and runs as I am waiting for SU to come over to England!!
What a horrible world it would be without my rubber stamps!! ARGHHH
Goodness, I hope not! But I really don't think so. Stamping is becoming very closely attached to scrapping! I am learning there is a lot you can double-dip with the two hobbies!
Hmm, this is interesting. I was talking to a woman a couple of weeks ago that just opened a stamp store. She had previously worked at a scrapbooking store and when that store first opened had shown rubber stamping. She commented that she thought stamping was coming back IN! And was becoming more and more popular.
Hi Heidi,
I know who you are talking about. Her name is Deb. I used to work with her at the scrapbooking store (she is a riot). I have to get out there and see her new store. I just had a baby a couple of months ago, so I haven't seen the new PIT or her store. I hope that things go well for her.
I really don't think that stamping is going anywhere. As others have said there is a lot of "crossover" between stamping and scrapbooking. I don't think that stamping really "needs" scrapbooking to stay alive though. Stamping is a great enough hobby all its own.
I remember a store that opened up way back when I was in my 20s that was totally devoted to stamping. This was long before scrapbooking became so popular. I am surprised how much stamping has changed over the years. There are a ton of magazine out there. Some are crafty and some are very artzy. All dedicated to stamping. No I don't think it's on the way out. Just like every other type of craft that has been around, it will evolve and change with the times.

I think stamping is here to stay! It's popularity may ebb and flow ever so slightly, but I think it is like that with most any hobby. People love getting things that were made with love and care, especially in this busy world of ours. My Dad had made a Valentine for my Mom about 40 years ago because he totally forgot to buy anything. We found that card after Mom passed away in her drawer, one of the only ones that she had ever saved.
I don't think the popularity of stamping has waned so much as the popularity of scrapbooking has waxed. The companies may have put their resources into scrapbooking demonstrations to reach those who have become interested recently. I agree, I don't think stamping will disappear... I think it will just be temporarily overshadowed, and only by complementary arts.

Think is no different than any other craft. My husband bought me stamps for Valentine's Day about 10 years ago - trust me I never did anything like I am doing now. I have knot for years, but now is the HIP things to do. What's next - tatting?
I don't think stamping will, but what I'm finding is more and more people are making cards and such out of scrapbooking products. If you look through Paper Crafts magazine, you'll see complete cards and invitations made out of scrapbooking papers (like KI and Doodlebug) and the wording or embellishments made out of like Making Memories metals or just scrapbooking stickers. I've tried to make cards like that, but I feel like I'm taking the easy way out (stamping requires so much more work, which I call "love") or cheating on stamping!
Did anyone notice the sizable contribution Shelli Gardner made to the tsunami victims????? $250,000 of spare change lying around ready for use at a moments notice...I'd say stamping is doing FABULOUS. And that's just Stampin Up. But I'm glad some of my $$ is being used to help people. It's nice to know the founder of this company is willing and able to contribute.
