Question Help! I knew this would happen...

I got Simple Sketches from ebay. It came yesterday and it is mounted terribly! I know that is what I get for buying off of ebay but is there any way to remount them. It looks like she just cut around in a circle. Nothing is trimmed. I was thinking of taking an exacto knife and trying to trim it. Does anyone have any ideas to save this set??????

oh maaan! Well, if you microwave each block a tiny bit (and be very careful they get hot!) you should be able to peel off the rubber and foam and then trim them up good. Also have read that if the foam or rubber doesn't want to stick to use rubber cement. Good luck, girl!

Microwave them for 5 seconds and see if they'll peel off easily, If not, nuke them a FEW more seconds at a time until they come off easily. Then just trim and stick 'em back on. There should be enough stickiness left. You'll probably have a little sticky residue left on the wood where the original rubber wasn't trimmed enough, but that won't interfere with stamping.

As for ebay, you can ask the seller to email you a picture of the rubber side of the stamps before you bid.

Remounting isn't that hard once you try it, so don't be afraid to do it.

Try remounting them. It is not that hard. I have remounted tons of used stamp sets. I bought out a SU demonstrator (really cheap) and she mounted about 40 sets really bad. They are all working fine. If you can get it cheap enough on ebay it is worth it. I usually microwave 10-20 seconds, peel all of them off (before they get to cold), trim and put back on with rubber cement. I wwas surprised it does not take that long. they are ready to use within 10-30 minutes.
Good luck

Definitely microwave them -- I find that 10 seconds in the microwave does the trick and they peel off the wood really easily. I have never had to use rubber cement to glue them back on ... the stickiness is usually still there ... VERY easy to do, although sometimes your scissors get sticky in this process, but those are easy enough to clean. Good luck!

I have had the same situation with ebay purchases. However, they are relatively easy to remove and remount (I have never had to use rubber cement as they were still sticky enough to remount to the wood). I know it is disappointing, but not too hard to remedy. Good luck!

I also suggest using corn starch or baby/talcum powder on the exposed sticky parts of the wood (after you've re-mounted them).

Thank you all! It worked like a charm and wasn't too bad to do!
