I have been away from paper crafting for a while due to a family tragedy. I am finally getting my supplies out and looking at all the wonderful things people make.
When I was poking around I think I read something about a die cutter that does not need shims and will cut most dies on the market. Does this exist?
All of the die cutting/embossing machines run on the same principle - apply pressure and the die will cut, or the paper will emboss. I think whether or not you need to shim depends on the die, the paper and the pressure of your machine.
Personally, I find that my little Cuttlebug does everything the "big boys" do. Sometimes I need to shim, but it is rare.

Here are several links to U Tube demonstrating the Crossover. It has dial adjustments right on the machine eliminating the need for shims. I do not own one so can't speak from experience. I would give it serious consideration if I needed to replace my Big Shot though. HTH
The Crossover is amazing. What i especially love is you can use your plates from any other machine because you can adjust the pressure. Most of my dies have cut on the first pass! This machine is made of mostly metal so not as likely to break as many of the other machines out there. I got one last week and wanted to know it was avgood machine before I give one away on my website on November 1, 2014.
Blessings.

I looked at videos of the Crossover too From what I saw I think it will be a great machine . It is not in the budget now, but I think it will be on the wish list for some future date
I believe I read that Mike Dywan ( owner and designer of Cherry Lynn dies ) is an engineer so it stands to reason his machine will work. It looks like he took all the gripes we have about various die cutting machines and put the solutions into his Crossover machine.
In fact he was the original designer of Spellbinder dies . He sold the company to the current owners . If you have any really old Spellbinder dies the package has the Cherry Lynn address on it I have S3-004 Symbology 1 from when Mike Dywan owned Spellbinders .The back of the package has the address of 2717 W. Cherry Lynn Road, Phoenix AZ 85017

Anyone know of a place in Canada to get this machine.
Check with Dennis at Ecstasy Crafts . He sells Cheery Lynn dies so he can probably get one for you
I have done business with them for years when I did parchment craft and they are a very good company

I know there's a product out there called "no more shims"; is that what you're thinking of? (I'm actually not sure what it is-- I thought it was a platform, not a machine.)
Anyhow, maybe that's not what you're after but I thought I'd mention it just in case.
Well, I emailed Cheery Lynn and asked for a Canadian source. I got an email from a store here in Ontario. I have dealt with this store before and quit doing so because I found her prices much higher than anyone else.
Anyway if I were to buy it there it would cost me $329. I did check the exchange rate and today to exchange $250 US would cost 18.25. But she wants $79 more.
I think I will wait and get my sister to pick me one up and bring it back with her.
