Post Has anyone here ever stamped and colored on Polymer clay?

[SIZE="3"][/SIZEHI there everyone:

I am wanting to know if any one here ever stamped on Polymer clay the baking kind.

If so do you stamp and color on before or after baking ...

I crochet and I want to make some handles for my crochet hooks with the polymer clay but i'd love to add my favorite stamps to the handles and color as well...

Would you color with pencils or markers?

Please if any one has done this please post here any information and tips that can help me...

Thanks bunches
Lillibet

I did this years ago, I covered a switch plate in polymer clay, stamped on it & baked it. It turned out well, and my daughter had it in her room. I didn't color it, just left it white. It lasted a couple of years and then got a crack in it, after that it fell apart. Overall, it was a good project though & turned out cute, I would do it again.

If you stamp on it before baking you'd get the imprint of the stamp image. I've used alcohol inks and chalks after baking.

It has been awhile since I worked with polymer but here is what I think I did.

1. Stamp before baking and use pearl ex to color, then bake. OR

2. Stamp on paper and color with Prisma colored pencils. Make you shape with clay. Rub the colored image on to the clay then bake.

Like I said it has been awhile but something to try.

You should stamp on it before you bake it. I like to use stazon for stamping on clay,

to add some more info, you can stamp without ink too and colour on it after it is baked, but be sure not to use a pigment ink

Just remember to poke a hole in them b4 you bake if you are going to make ornaments. I know that sounds like common sense...however, I, of course, had to live and learn...hope to save someone the pain LOL

Here is how I made some cute magnets for hostess gifts years ago:
1. roll out clay quite thin, use a knife or cookie cutter for desired size and shape
2. on waxed paper, made a little palette of pearl ex powder
3. ink stamp with Versamark then stamp into Pearl Ex
4. stamp into clay with even pressure, don't go too deep or you will get outline of wood mount
5. bake according to package instructions
6. when cool, glue magnet on the back

Smile Wow thank you ladies.... I knew some one would know

Wow Ladies Thank you for all the help and how to's and tips..

I dont live near any craft stores so i ordered some polymer clay online and a acrylic roller and the glaze for after.

What I want to do is take my aluminim crochet hooks and make handles for them and i thought with stamps that would make a nice handle..

I have pearl X powders here for years and never used them now i got something to use them on...
I also have chaulk ink pads so I guess I will use them too..

Okay so to my understanding ( Dont use Pigment Inks Correct????

Please keep the tips and ideas coming ladies you are all angels in my eyes and to the rescue...
hugs
