Default Good printer for digi

I need a new printer. Just realized today after buying more ink for it.

I did a search for this topic but only came across old threads 1-2 years old. I need new recommendations for a printer that I can use for Digi printing that won't smear the ink.

Or referrals to Current threads with this info.

Much Thanks!!:p

Depends on what kind of digi printing you're doing. I have a small black and white Brother laser printer to print the outline stamps so I can color them with my alcohol markers. And my favorite color printers are HP photosmart because the colors are the truest match. But the colors to smear when wet. :(

For digi stamps, I use my Canon MP560. I use off-brand ink and a CSS in it, so its very cheap to print. It also does beautiful colour prints for regular size papers. I've also used it with canon inks and both the canon and off-brand have never smeared for me when using my copics. I have a wide format epson artisan 1430 for printing digi papers. I haven't tried colouring any digi stamps printed with the epson yet so can't tell you whether the inks smear with copics or not.

I'm not the OP, but I was also wondering which color printer to get. I am looking for a color laser to print on labels and card stock. I would love to be able to print my own invitations on smaller pieces of card stock, so I am looking for a printer that can handle printing custom-sized paper without bending or wrinkling stiffer sheets. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.

I always thought printer ink is printer ink for inkjets unless you go specialist or business level. Now how it is applied by the printer is probably the difference and that is a software/printer head thing.

What I would say is that I will never buy another printer without a Continuous Ink Supply System. That thing is the biggest cost saver ever.

If you are having issues with inkjet ink smearing you can use a wax colorless pencil to outline the image. Prismacolor makes one. I tend to blast mine with my heat gun as I print and work in a basement, just to be on the safe side.

I printed this Birthday Flowers by RiverIsis - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers with an HP 3210 all in one which is now about 7 years old.

IMHO, Inkjet printers actually work better for digis. I have several laser printers (Brother, Xerox, and HP), and the cardstock always gets stuck in the rollers.

I ended up caving in and buying a cheap inkjet printer (Canon MG5500), which was around $75 at Best Buy, but I've been so happy with it. It scans and prints and if you set up the software correctly, you can even print remotely via bluetooth from your phone. It takes cardstock wonderfully, and I've not had a problem in the 2 months I've had it.

Also, from what I remember, Kristina Werner (kwernerdesign.com) uses an Epson Inkjet printer. I couldn't find the exact brand on her blog, since she took it down from her FAQ section, but she mentions that she uses an Epson all-in-one printer with Claria ink for her digis

I went with an Epson again. Since my last one lasted 5 years and I was able to print digi's with it.

I bought Epson Expression Preium XP-610 small all in one printer. Prints pictures and is wireless.

Very happy with my purchase. It uses the same ink that my old printer did. Digi's come out perfect and no bleding with Copics.

I love my Epson too. I have an Epson Inkjet Workforce 1100 that prints on paper as big as 13x19. It has settings for photo and watercolor paper and takes any weight of cardstock with no problem. It can print on vellum too with only a few seconds dry time. Like yours, my printer uses the same ink as my old Workforce 30. I can't imagine that I would use any printer other than Epson.

Hi my canon pixa mg6220 just died --loved it -- could handle all types of paper. Unfortunately it has been discontinued. If you can find it, I would recommend it. Worked great with copics -- no smearing.

A friend recommended a brother laser printer as i print digis and use copics. I just tried the brother hl3170cdw and it was useless. It jammed on every paper I used (SU; Copic XPress and Neenah 110lb). I managed to get it to print on the Xpress it paper but it curled the paper. So be wary that all lasers will work even if they list cardstock in their specs.

My printer feeds paper from the bottom. I just put in GinaK heavy weight paper and Papertrey paper into the printer. Paper did not jam. Came through perfect. I am very happy with my Epson XP-610 all in one printer!

I have a Brothers Lasser printer HL2240. It only prints in black but that is all I need for Digis .

I got it on some Holiday sale for $50 and free delivery
Most stores have great sales for non gift giving holidays such as Memorial Day, Labor Day and 4th of July and New Years day

I was advised by some one here to buy a printer that has a front to back paper loading feature. The ones were the paper/CS must go around a roller often cause paper jams .

My Brothers printer has a little door at the bottom where I insert one sheet of cardstock at a time and it advances the CS front to back to print . It will take Gina K's 120# CS.

I can also load a stack of paper if I need multiple copies but those will go around a roller to print
HTH
