i didnt read all the posts so maybe these were said already but I think the economy is getting better which means people will be travelling again so perhaps we will see travel and vacations stamps plus vintage domestics, pinups, and cowboys.

as far as colors, I think orange and aqua will be colors we will see a lot of.

If more vintage surfaces then I think clock images will be in. Plus they can design more different clocks than owls or cupcakes

Europe has been on the bold train for a while now - I see bold becoming more prevalent here as well. I would also venture to say that with the economy not moving upward as fast as most would like, there may be a trend to find new ways to recycle everyday items. A friend of mine who used to buy lots of stickers, rub-ons, etc, now cuts out the cartoon characters and other fun things from cereal boxes and uses those for her kids cards. I see a trend toward “green” cards as well. Recycled any and everything

Love Amy's Mermaids, they are gorgeous.

Also love the Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps mermaids from last year and this Carmen Medlin mermaid from SCACD Stamps.

This is an interesting thread. I'm certainly hoping we see some of these predictions coming true!

Default my predictions

I think people are right about repurposing items. Perhaps we will see a lot of altering and handmade gifts (which was a trend last year as well).

I'm never good at predictions so I'll just say what I would love to see as a continuing or new trend:

paper piecing/punch art (of course)
fun folds and paper engineering
neutrals like gray, chocolate, caramel paired with pastel or rich colors
small print designer papers
die cutting
watercoloring (since I'm not so good with copics)
stamps that go with dies
embossing folders and dry embossing
designer papers (but not too many layers)
handmade embellishments (from paper or ribbon)
simple eye catching designs

Trends I would like to see less of:
Busy cards with masses of layers and tons of embellishments
Grunge (sorry, I've never been a fan)
Victorian (again, I've never been much of a fan)
Detailed fine line art stamps featuring Clocks, keys, gears, maps, stamps, landmarks and antiques (unfortunately, these might be the items of trend for 2011)- they are just not my style
store bought embellishments like charms, ribbon roses, silk flowers & stickers

I didn't read all the responses yet becuase I think it would be fun to guess, but I'm thinking we'll be seeing retro 50's-60's style, peacocks, and color combos paired with gray.
I can't wait for CHA and all the new releases to come out so we can all see the new stuff!

I think we'll being seeing Black & White and shade of gray or Brown & cream - like old black & white or sepia photos.

I also see a lot of charms, trinkets, and other danglies returning.

I agree with steampunk and also Victorian style stuff.

I hope we continue to see vintage, birds, nature, etc

Magnolia stamps
Copic markers
Digital stamping

I think I'm seeing moves toward use of more collage techniques. Clean and simple styles will always be in, but I think these will look more hand made and a little quirky and less like what I call "the corporate annual report look." Tim Holtz fueled this interest, and even people I know who don't like the aged and distressed look are using more collage and mixed media art techniques on their cards and projects.

I think:
CAMEO's and other vintage stuff like doilies
Embossing folders for their fabulous new designs
Dies will gain more support
Character stamps we can color in or paper piece, and so Copics too!
Birds (not just owls) will continue to gather strength.

Adding one on to a previous post: indexed cling stamps. More and more of the companies are adding the index image to the cling side, and I think this will become "The Standard". Way to go! Can't say goodbye to wood mounts or clear stamps, but the market will be shifting more and more to this type mount.

Question

Dp in bold colours but simple patterns, neater layouts. Please let it be the end of scuffed up edges, billion layered cards and ugly characters. Hopefully more white card bases and simpler punched flowers like daisies.

Hmmm...I'll play, although what follows must be taken with a pile of salt.

I think that in 2011 we will see that everything old is new again or that there is nothing new under the sun.

Cute will still be strong, but the countervailing trends of retro, vintage and steampunk will continue to be strong also. Have to give props to Tim Holtz, as his products can be used for so many popular styles. Along with retro style, I see simple stamps that mimic retro letterpress printing being big. Circles, squares, and architectural shapes will be popular, as well as stamps and dies that mimic letterpress designs, including stylized leaves, birds, and flowers.

Products and techniques used for ATCs and art journaling will cross over into scrapbooking and cardmaking more than ever. Cards and scrapbook pages will include paint, gesso, gel medium, watercolors, water soluable crayons, old book pages, simple printing and brayer techniques, Zentangles, Sharpies, stencils, and interesting letters. The free-form styles of artists such as Julie Fei-Fan Balzer and Traci Bautista will become mainstream, if they haven't already.

The colors that have been popular for the last few years--turquoise, teal, lime/apple green, olive, orange, grey, kraft cardstock--will be joined by jewel tones, particularly deep reds, purples, magentas, and cobalt. I think that we'll see unusual color combinations as people experiment with getting more out of their art and craft products. As an example, the Jan/Feb. issue of ClothPaperScissors magazine included teal, grey, yellow, a funky green and a deep reddish purple.

The economy is getting stronger, but many of us are not yet feeling that it is. Most people want and/or need to save money. Others simply need to stop buying every stamp, ink pad, and package of designer paper in sight, LOL! Therefore, finding more and new ways to use existing products will be popular. I think that we'll see cards that include images and backgrounds made from hand-carved stamps, homemade stencils, bubble wrap, architectural stencils, and sequin waste/punchinella. For those who don't want to carve their own stamps and stencils, stamps that mimic the handmade look will also be popular--think paint splatters, chevrons, distressed circles that produce an image similar to bubble wrap, etc. We'll see more collages, paper quilts, and strips and bits of paper on cards and scrapbook pages.

Despite so many people who say they don't like overdone cards, bling will be big. People may use it in more subtle ways or find ways to stretch it. A bling flourish may be cut into several pieces to use on more than one card or scrapbook page, for instance. Ribbons, flowers, baker's twine, buttons, and bows are probably here to stay.

I think that all the trends we've seen in the last few years will continue to be strong as people find ways to combine styles and products and get more mileage out of their supplies. Stamping and scrapbooking are mature crafts now, so other than tweaking of existing products (larger dies, a Cricut that can make dinner, clean your house, and wash your car), I doubt that we'll see anything that is brand spanking new for a long time.

Default This is more of a wish than a prediction....

...I posted this already on a thread, but I would love to see Spellbinders and Cricut come up with a cartridge with all the Spellbinder dies!

To me, that would be so awesome.

Wishful thinking....

...adding on to my previous predictions:

I think OLC...One layer Cards...will gain more followers, and grow to great popularity in it's own right.

I also like GypsyRoseStampers idea of adding the index image to the cling side of the stamp...I have a couple like this, and they are fantastic! Do hope this trend takes off!

I think as some crafters mature in their skills and look for new options and ways to use their accumulated stash that more mixed media pieces will come into play.

I'm thinking there is going to be more critters! Probably more pastel color, and lots of ribbon. There will probably be more die cutting with machines like Cricut. Probably more embossing and new techniques. It's going to be a fun year.

I'm hoping for more papercrafting idea books and maybe even kits. I have so much invested in crafting supplies that I'm always looking for something else to do with them besides scrapping and card-making.

I'm guessing more retro... back to the 60's and 70's (remember California originals pottery, LOL?) based on what I recently heard in an antique dealer's presentation. Also more masculine stuff... and not really vintage, but more "old world".. I hope!

I'm a little late jumping in here but...I predict more quilted motifs, seafoam, teals, and muted greens, digi images and embellishments, a more frugal and creative movement due to the economy.

Hugs,

What if early 90's stuff makes a come back... like "country" ducks, pigs and cows? Peach and Teal (like the colors in my Aunt's wedding) too? Yikes! That would not be my thang! lol

Ducks, Pigs, and Cows are "out"?
Ooops.... that memo missed me.

I do agree on the peach/teal colors -- peach dresses w/ 3" wide teal ribbon waistbands. Ack!!

Don't know about peach and teal together, but tealish colors are big now. I could see peach making a comeback, since orange is popular. Keep it far away from teal, and it wouldn't be half bad, LOL.

Kind of cheating here a little since it's well into the year, but...

More natural things for embellishments like felt, fibers, material, ribbons, wood, etc. Reusing what you already have (recycling). Handmade embellishments using these and anything else you can think of. Tools used to make embellishments like dies. Tutorials for making them. Multiple mediums included with paper.

Anything "old" like vintage, retro, Victorian, but...the great thing is, I believe, you can do anything you want. Just like fashion, create your own style. Use a new trend if you want, but make it your own!

One thing I would LOVE to see, is ONE store where I can buy ALL the supplies I need!!!! I hate having to shop at so many different places! Then I forget where I bought what! The only way to cure that would be to open my own store!

Funny thing. After I said something about peach and teal, I made a card using light orange... I swear it's not peach! lol and a deep crystal blue. Again, not teal, but it is awful close... tee hee.

And I actually love the way they go together. Does that mean I contradicted my self?! Oh well.
