Help! I made a cute diary for my DD with this weeks altered journal challenge and one day later they are all fraying and coming untied. I tied them double knot and tight. What should I do? I want to make more but not if they are not useable!
I'm wondering if a drop of clear glue inside the knot would help hold it.
As for the fraying problem...I've always used pinking shears on the ends..or dipped the end in wax (Imagine you could use some kind of clear glue or crystal effects on the very end too).

Yeah... what Loretta said! I use Crystal Effects on my knots (sometimes) and I burn (VERY carefully) the ends of my ribbon (just started doing that). You really only have to get the fire close to the ribbon, and you can see it 'glueing' (for lack of a better term) the end!(oh... stop laughing... it works!! tee hee!!)
Most ribbon are made with Nylon (a plastic) so you just have to get them hot enough to melt w/o burning them. I always use a lighter and very carfully get the ribbon end close to the flame w/o actually touuching it. I would suggest cutting your ribbon just slightly longer than you think you might want, in case you do get too close and burn the end.
As for your knots, I would think some CE or even a shot of heat from your heat tool should work. HTH
Not to hijack...but have you ever seen the cool effect when you heat (with the heat gun) organdy ribbon? Tie it onto your project first though. Very neat!

Looks very cool with vintage-y images It kinda crinkles up. But be careful you don't heat it too much, it'll warp your CS! Been there!
For Grosgrain, twill, rick rack, and polyester ribbons, I use a product called Fray Check. It comes in a little bottle and is sold in the notions department of fabric stores. It dries clear and a little bottle last for years.

I use the Fray Check too. I agree, one bottle lasts forever. My daughter is a ballet dancer, they burn the ends of the ribbons on their pointe shoes to keep them from fraying.
I use fabric glue - very small amount to hold the knot in place if it a slippy/glossy ribbon and dab a teeny amount on the ends to stop fraying. Have to be very careful if using it with organza though
